Ask the governor is on again this morning 9-10am on KARN. Perhaps someone will call in to ask the governor how he decides whether a news source is "legitimate"?

Any truth to the rumor that Lynch's show with Jason Willett will be broadcast live from Hooters?
Posted by: Rumor or truth? | July 5, 2006 09:36 AM
C'Mon Max - you don't support Berry and Willett's ticket? Sure you do.
All of our candidates are from Berry's District (except Daniels and Wilcox - you can't really give Halter a regional draw) so it will be interesting to see if the Democratic coordinated campaign can actually get their voters to the polls in November from anywhere else.
I suspect that Hutchinson and Holt will do a far better job of getting their people out in the 3rd District than people want to admit so let's call the 3rd versus the 1st a draw.
The Republicans will also get their people dug up in rural central/western Arkansas. That is what they do best and the issues are on their side for this strategy.
I also suspect that no real money will be spent on getting voters to the polls for the Democrats anywhere but the African American communities in East and South Arkansas. Frankly, the Democrtic Party has no apparatus in place to get anyone else out.
Light turn out from centrist Democrats and strong turn out from white conservatives and moderate rural whites all across the state will make this neck and neck against the Berry machine and black voters.
Cry "foul" all you want, but we haven't won anything yet.

I never agreed before with Rep. Marion Berry ..but..he did make one of the best votes ever made by one of our delagation along with Ross and Boozeman. Berry voted for full repeal of the horrible DEATH TAX. Of course our old Bolshivic Snyder voted no. but, help is coming. Congressman Mayberry will vote the way our district thinks..Red state values.

1. Get someone with at least an eighth grade education to spell check your posts.
2. You should go into stand up comedy. "Congressman Mayberry"--two words guaranteed to send an audience into convulsions of laughter.
Close behind would be "Congressman Stumbaugh," "Congressman Joe Ross," "Lt. Gov. Holt," "Attorney General DeLay," "Secretary of State Lagrone" and "Treasurer Morris."
This year's Arkansas Republican "farm team" is more like the "Bad News Bears."
Posted by: spell check/reality check | July 5, 2006 11:06 AM
Say something of substance "spell check/spell reality" - I would like for you to put some numbers and some analysis behind what you opine.
Holt, for instance, spent almost no money to perform very well against and incumbent United States Senator. Are you saying that Halter has more cross-over appeal than Lincoln?
McDaniel is bright and smart but DeLay has name ID (even if they confuse him with his cousin, most people don't know it is negative)
Charlie is on the spot on issues - but I am sure in your response you will explain the value of name ID and tenure.
And Morris is a black Republican - an untested quantity in Arkansas. If he stays in South Arkansas he may just do better in the Hills than people think with that little "R" behind his name. Shoffner will have to be careful not to "expose him" as black without coming across as "too East Arkansas" to the Democratic base.
I think this year is going to be interesting - especially if the Democrats stay cocky.

Beebe, Halter, McDaniel, Shoffner, Daniels, Wood, Wilcox . . . . a "farm team"????
With the exception of McDaniel, we killed off the Democratic farm team in May and June. They are all going off to practice law somewhere. We advanced a bunch of old nags on our barnyard and sent the bucking broncos out to pasture.

Anyone who's listened to 1380 knows the signal sucks. They need a station with 50,000 watts instead of 5,000.

Didn't the Bad News Bears win?
Posted by: Anonymous | July 5, 2006 12:28 PM
I challenge you,
Challenge accepted. Thanks for the reasoned response--it's nice to see someone engage in a dialogue about issues rather than resort to name calling.
I do notice that you didn't even try to make the case that Andy Mayberry, Stubby Stumbaugh and Joe Ross will win their races.
In Holt's case, the past is not prologue--the circumstances of the 2004 U.S. Senate election will not be repeated in this year's lt. gov. election, for several reasons.
First, Holt (and Bush) probably added five percentage points to their total based on turnout from the marriage amendment. No such turnout vehicle this time around.
Second, Holt got 44% in part because Lincoln never laid a hand on him. She didn't run a single negative ad with a lot of material to choose from (federal judges more dangerous than al Qaeda, Roe v. Wade cause of Social Security insolvency, etc.). If Lincoln had put $500,000 to $1 million into a negative ad buy against Holt, he wouldn't have cracked 40 %. In the last two years, Holt has accumulated even more wacko pronouncements (notably minimum wage and pre-K are Soviet style Socialism) that will provide perfect opportunities to whack Holt down to size.
Also, there were about 24,000 undervotes in the U.S. Senate election in 2004 (see http://www.arelections.org/results/66/elec66_election-all.html), meaning that many people voted for president or other offices but not for U.S. Senate. There was a sense among some Democrats that Lincoln voted too often with the Republicans and these Democrats sat out the U.S. Senate race. This also inflated Holt's total.
The more voters learn about Holt, the less they will be apt to vote for him.
Plus, being detested by the incumbent Republican governor (Huckabee) will affect the extent to which the state party helps Holt.
Huckabee also detests DeLay. And DeLay's fundraising has been almost as anemic as Holt's.
Lagrone and Morris have never run for any office before. Their name ID is zilch.
Daniels has incumbency and there is no evidence that election problems have given Lagrone any edge.
Shoffner is the only female candidate on the statewide ballot this year, which helped her in the primary and will help her in the general. And being the guy in charge of helping Huckabee dole out pardons and commutations to rapists and murderers is plenty of baggage for Morris.
You're wrong about a black Republican being untested in Arkansas. In 1990, Kenneth "Muskie" Harris, who is black and a former defensive back for the Razorbacks, was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor against Democrat Jim Guy Tucker.

Thank you "spell check" and good answers. I think you made good points.

" I have contacted Gordon Heiges. "APRN" is a registered trademark of the Alaska Public Radio Network and they will have to cease using that acronym.

ATTN : New affilliates of the bogus APRN--Arkansas Priority Radio Network.
Gordon Heiges and the even more imbecilic WAI-RADIO crew have neglected to make a one-minute internet search of the acronym above and even after being informed of their illegal use; apparently are continuing to use it.
The wai-radio ( public service announcement enterprise ) trainwreck has recently celebrated its one year anniversary and utilizes the well-travelled ( frequently fired ) central arkansas radio personality, Pat Lynch, as its ( excuse the pun ) 'LYNCH'PIN! Lynch is basically a poorly educated, bombastic bloviator who carefully selects guests who will not challenge him---an extreme feat as Lynch is so easily challenged.
Most of his guests are conservatives; David Sanders, Mark Johnson, Roby Brock, Laurie Taylor, Bill Vickery, Jim Holt, Ron Crawford... and far too dumb to expose Lynch's decades-long charade as a pinko/liberal leftist. Lynch even brags about his ACLU history.
Lynch is also a pathetically inept journalist whose column can be read in the Ardemgaz, Mondays..a column that is certainly not intended to be comical or satirical even though most of them turn out that way as they are so laughably reasoned/constructed.
Until this past week, Lynch offered a tiny forum by which his listeners could present alternate views via a 'comments component' to the blog sites hyped on his program. Thus, listeners were afforded a tiny opportunity to respond to the opinionated idiocy Lynch spews out daily via the public airways.
Formerly, he had for decades, delighted in bullying listeners by denying them any opportunity for rebuttal; since Lynch carefully screens his calls and callers for even the feintest "signs of life " . Now, Lynch and crew have eliminated the comment component on their blogsites; shutting out any form of dissent .(Actually the decision to silence such dissent was fairly inconsequential as the number of comments rarely exceeded one per day.) The other WAI blog site has not been updated in months and thus has had no activity as I recall since April, 2006...the last time I checked.
It's amazing anyone would want to get aboard this runaway train...but radio is the home of such luminaries as Don Imus, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, Bill O'Reilly,Michael Reagan, Glenn Beck, and Michael Smerconish ,isn't it ?
Oh ...back to the APRN debacle...that's easily corrected by changing the name to a more honest acronym..APSARN..Arkansas Public Service Announcement Radio Network..!

Lynch goes on another rant regarding the bogus Bird Flu threat. What else is new?Surely not real threats such as our Encroaching Fascism, An Obesity Epidemic, A Diabetes Epidemic (resulting in 35% of our health problems being diabetes-related), TeenScreen ( trapping any teen-ager who demonstates normal adolescent behavior ) in the multi-billion dollar federally supported mental health scam, Climate Change and an oncoming Financial Collapse . No! We get the latest on Lynch's " 'CRYWOLF' Blitzer " world view.Of course, Lynch relies to an even greater extent on distortions provided by his immersing himself in the "FOX- Murdock" view. Incredibly, all the while he cynically presents himself as a moderate-liberal. What the hell! Senators Blanche Lincoln and David Pryor play the game for much greater stakes.
-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
Lynch also found time to launch a spirited defense of Dr.Fahmy Malak:
Lynch has apparently forgotten Janie Ward?
According to the aforementioned Dr. Fahmy Malak, well known for his screw ups as a past Arkansas medical examiner, 16-year-old Janie's lungs weighed nearly double than normal, and seemed to be filled with water; she had multiple critical injuries including a broken neck, broken nose, ribs, cheek, puncture wounds; yet Malak listed the cause of death as accidental death, resulting from a fall from a porch approximately a foot high".
Janie's murder remains unsolved and has been a grotesque stain on Arkansas justice system since 1989!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lynch must have also forgotten an even more frigid Cold Case File that has besmirched Arkansas'
corrupt justice system since 1987!
Inquiring minds want to know if the names Kevin Ives or Don Henry ring a bell, Mr. Lynch?
Don Henry - Kevin Ives
On August 23, 1987, seventeen-year-old Kevin Ives and sixteen-year-old Don Henry, were murdered in a rural community just south of Little Rock. Their bodies were placed on railroad tracks and run over by a passing train. A cover-up began immediately and eventually extended to every level of government involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Initial cause of death as determined by the State medical examiner Fahmy Malak, was the result of falling asleep on a railroad track after smoking marijuana on August 23, 1987
Later it was determined that Kevin died from a crushed skull prior to being placed on the tracks
The FBI has investigated this crime and the case remains open .
Found dead along with Kevin Ives was Don Henry
Their lifless bodies were struck by a train at 4 A.M., The train crew observed the two boys lying between the rails with a rifle beside one of the boys and both partialy covered by a pale green tarp, both were facing straight up, neither moved as the train, blowing it's horn approched at 55 miles per hour, they were struck and choped up under the train.
The train crew noticed that the blood of the victoms was purple and not red and had not flowed out of the body parts, there was very little blood.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh well, Mr. Lynch concluded on June 22,2006 :
The sadly much maligned... (but handsomely rewarded via personal state salaries and retirement compensation).....Dr.Fahmy Malak just needed more money to do his job more competently!
