Beebe's lobbyist friends
John Brummett today turns his attention to Mike Beebe's close relationships with lobbyists, forged during 20 years in the state senate.
What would Beebe say to voters who might be concerned about undue influence and favoritism?
"Two things. I'd say look at the record and determine whether I've performed objectively. I think it's clear that I have. Second, in the final analysis, this race for governor is not about whether he's a Washington lobbyist or I have lobbyist friends. It's about education and economic development and health care."

Comments
Why doesn't Brummet instead suggest and infer that lobbyist access to politicians should be limited and monitored?
This election better be about jobs for the state of this state and her people. Fourteen years ago years the most I could get paid for a clerical job was $6.15. In 2006, a retail job is $6.00 an hour with gas @ $3.00 a gallon. Simply, we've regressed and people are going downhill and not upwards.
We don't have the jobs, we don't have the salaries needed in this state. True, we have an abundance of building that supports numerous businesses, however people making $6.00 an hour cannot afford a house or land payment. In short, they can't buy squat. Sooner or later that will dry up as well. They'll buy up all the property, but won't be able to sell it if the status quo remains.
Better get some industry to this state ASAP and make that a priority. To do that, education has to be seriously improved. It''s time to oust these politicians that just draw a state paycheck with their feet up on their desks before it's too late.
As for me, Beebe has my vote. I'm not EVER voting for ANYONE who was/is associated with the Bush Administration and supports that man's failed policies.

By John Brummett
>>>>>It was Mike Beebe's turn to sit for an hour and let me challenge his ethics. I'd already engaged in such an exercise with Asa Hutchinson, centering on Asa's cashing in high service in the federal Homeland Security Department.>>>>

Sitting with a reporter for an hour being 'challenged' was Beebe's first mistake. He needs to make sure every darn thing he says is in writing and give the 'media' roughly 0-5 minutes tops. Why? Because usually they don't get the story straight and because they twist the words to suit their agenda.
Never forget: The media is not your friend.

Please tell me just who you think my friend should be.
Are you promoting Plutocracy? Do you think my friends should be the current band of Kleptocrats? Do you like Big Businessmen who outsource our jobs? Do you think...?
Please tell me just how I'm supposed to know anything without the media sticking their collective noses into everybody's business and asking questions?
Please tell me how to get a straight answer from anybody who has something to hide?
I sure don't have time and energy to track down every plutocrat, kleptocrat, or official -- whether honest or dishonest.
If Brummett asks questions for an hour or a week at one sitting, it's fine with me.
... Oh, now I get it -- Guess I'm kinda slow -- you're just another damned troll for the governor and administration.

To Wake Up!: You Wake Up!
You call that hard hitting? It's well known at the Capitol that Brummett is far from unbiased when it comes to Beebe. Beebe has been Brummett's source at the Capitol for years. Staffers have long joked about Beebe as "Brummett's Deep Throat."
Brummett will now be able to say he's done the obligitory hard hitting piece. Brummett asked, Beebe answered, and Brummett regurgitated. Why didn't Brummett do a little research and ask around about the Tilton parking debacle? Why would a lobbyist risk tarnishing a relationship with a member of the legislature by parking in a staff or legislative spot? That spot was assigned to someone. The fact that Tilton would park in it is enough to send up a red flag to anyone but but Beebe's friend Brummett.
Think about it, if I'm a staff person and if a lobbyist or anyone else is parked in may spot during a legislative session, I'm going to raise hell with someone. Parking is terrible during a session. As a staffer with someone in my space, I would head straight to the Capitol Police and have it the offender towed. The spots are clearly marked.
The fact that no one complained can mean one of two things: 1) The staff person knew it was Tilton and didn't complain for fear of having Beebe come down on them for harrassing his friend, or 2) Beebe told Tilton he could park there.
I do know for a fact this was not an isolated occurance. Tilton parked there regularly.
Brummett should follow up on his questions instead of regurgitating his friends answers!

Truly Beebe is the lesser of two evils. It's like voting to cut off your thumb finger vs. your little finger.

Actually it is more like voting to cut off your penis or your balls. I plan to keep both.
