Ten years later

Veteran Arkansas news reporter James Jefferson, now with the Arkansas News Bureau, takes us back to ten years ago yesterday, when Mike Huckabee became governor amid some chaos surrounding Jim Guy Tucker's resignation.

The article evolved into a reflection on Huckabee's tenure as governor.

"I'm not sure if I thought 10 years ago I would have gone through two terms," said the Baptist preacher and former pastor who stepped out of the pulpit and into the political arena. "But it didn't take long into those early months and certainly the first year or so that I realized that this was a wonderful job and a great opportunity, and that I could serve more effectively and, frankly, with a greater level of fulfillment than had I been elected to the U.S. Senate."

In a separate article, Jefferson explores Huckabee's GOP legacy.

Comments

I saw he was going to be on a cspan show "Road to the White House". I guess he will finally admit he's going to run??

As we said growing up: gag me with a spoon.

Read the article. My old college professor, Michael Dugan, has a great quote.

I think Jefferson must have been referring to Michael Dougan -- not Dugan. A photo of the Michael named Dougan -- not the one named Dugan -- by Dero Sanford, graces the cover of the July issue of Jonesboro Occasions magazine.

Is this the one Jiffersin was quoting? Or could it be that other one?

The Huckster's legacy is that he taught us a euphemism for graft: 'gifts.'

The Huckster will always be a classless jerk.

Lt. Governor Win Rockefeller died at 10:37 a.m.
My thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

If you all catch me humping a naked 11 year old girl by the side of the road, I would hope you'd be willing to take my word for it that everything is OK and nothing bad was going on.

That is exactly what is going on with Huckabee and Mr. Suhl. Only in this case the people of Arkansas get to be the naked 11 year old girl that Suhl is humping and Huckabee is the PR man for the roadside humping. What else is Huckabee hiding in that PAC, Amelia Earhart....Jimmy Hoffa?

Notice how many Republicans lined up to dump on the Huckster. I have to say in fairness that Mrs. Jeffery's is as dumb as a bag of hammers and Mr. Walters is a mucho-creepy dude, if Huckabee was circling the drain with the 2 others, it would be a crook, a flake and a rake...and boy, am I proud to be from Arkansas when I consider those 3?

Mrs. Jeffery and Mr. Walters are just pointing out what we've always known about Huck, he's in it for himself and no one else. The Republican Party in Arkansas never benefited from Huck's 10 years in office. Except for Huck turning a blind eye to the little monsters 1st Baptist elects who spend their time in LR legislating good things for their own businesses when they're not wasting their time coming up with unconstitutional laws about the baby Jesus or the Bible or prayer in school.

Just get gone and let the memory fading begin, is my message to Mike Huckabee. He sure enough wasn't the worst Governor Arkansas has ever had, but we were 49th when he got here and we're 49th now and thank Allah for term limits!

PS looking at Huck's pictures the last year, I think he needs to switch doctors and see a specialist. Something's wrong with the man. He looks like an emaciated rat and his hair is falling out. I am not taking a cheap shot, I think he's ill.

DBI, you may be right that Huck is ill. If he had the gastric bypass surgery, as many have spectulated, he could very well be seriously ill. Many people don't realize that after this surgery, the patient is required to injest massive amounts of vitamins and minerals for the rest of their lives.
I know Huck has never said that he had the surgery, and I don't know if he did or not, but it's one explanation.
I am not being mean or hateful, either, but he does look bad.

Good Heavens he looks like Gomer Pyle in that picture.
