Already more LR murders this year than last

With two more homicides recorded today, Little Rock this year already has exceeded the number of homicides that occurred during the entirety of 2005.

A double-homicide today at 31st and Schiller streets gave Little Rock its 41st and 42nd murders in 2006.

Are you guys counting the one that happened on the interstate? Because the State Police are investigation it it does not count as a homocide in the city.

What a joke...add it to the total.

The question is how a community can stop this rampent bent on killing. We need some very significant leadership from our neighborhoods to step up to the occasion and lead us out of this wanton murder spree. If I had the power I would lower a large magnet over our communities that would suck up every weapon out there.

Had the city fathers listened to the counsel of Steve Nawojczyk years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess. Nawojczyk has forgotten more about gang problems and drug problems than most people ever know. His expertise is desperately needed now, but Dogtown has him.

Fort Marriage is suddenly having a rash of murder-suicides involving young husbands and significantly older wives, all over in the rich part of town.

Wonder what's in their drinking water? Our weekend tally is 3 and 1/2 dead so far. Covenant marriages going bad?

Good reason to elect a former prosecutor Mayor. We have to rebuild public safety. Failure to do so will ruin this city.

The problem is we have invaded the neighborhoods with undercover officers, alert centers, crime watch programs, and public aid.

We need to bring all these precious resources back home to city hall so these individuals wont hate so much. If our public support would just leave these misunderstood souls alone things would be okay.

EVACUATE OUR POLICE AND RESOURCES OUT OF THESE CRIME AREAS NOW!!

Terrific news! It won't be long before I can get my tax passed! I love keeping up with the body count.

This is part of Judge Buddy's effort to win the sales tax election. He has the money to do what needs to be done to secure the streets. He simply chooses to spend the money on trolley's and that big dam bridge. While the bridge is nice, it cannot be enjoyed when our city is in a crisis mode.

By the way, what would the former prosecutor do or any candidate for mayor? If the jail is not taking criminals, not much else could be done.

Hats off to our detectives. At least they are arresting those who commit such crimes quickly.

RT - get a grip on reality! These people killing each other has nothing to do with a tax election and it looks like you need to get the facts about where the money came from for the trolley system and the big dam bridge before you start making bad remarks about the killings going on....these people may be in to bad stuff that they end up being killed over or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time but they too have family mourning their loss.

I know that the trolley and the big dam bridge were built primarily with federal dollars. However, get your facts straight. The local match required by the county for the trolley and the big dam bridge would have paid for the expansion and operation of the jail.

Speaking of facts and the jail, something that a lot of people don't want to discuss, why is it that Judge Buddy can find a way to collaborate with the cities and find solutions to everything but the jail? We can pull money from everywhere to make the trolley and the big dam bridge take place but not a spare nickel can be found for the jail.

And another thing, don't think for a minute that these people killing each other are folks that are as pure as the wind driven snow but happened to lose their temper and shot somebody. They are criminals who should be behind bars but Buddy doesn't want to do his job. He would rather find a way to play on his bicycle.

Think of the crisis as you peddle across the big dam bridge.

I heard Mike Beebe sent out a press release saying Asa killed these two.

It'd make about as much sense as the release he sent out yesterday.

Oh, sure Mike, you're way ahead in this race. Thats why you're desperately attacking Asa on a near daily basis.

Thats what frontrunners do, they constatntly attack their opponents.

After all, thats what Blanche did to Holt, she was ahead the whole time and atacked him like you are Asa, right?

Oh, wait...
Frontrunners don't attack. And Blanche, who was way ahead, acted very differently than you are.
Could it be taht you know the race is tied, Mike?

Back to school for you! "Peddle" means "to go place to place selling small articles" -- travelling salesmen were peddlers. "Pedal" is what one does on a bicycle. Oh, this tricky language!

Arkansas' official motto of "Thank God for Mississippi" no longer applies but Little Rock needs to make its official motto "Thank God for New Orleans". If not for that city, we might have the nation's highest murder rate for cities over 100,000 this year. It's inexcusable.

Sitting on my front porch listening to sounds of an August evening and watching the sun set as I sip a cool tall glass of ice tea. Nice and peaceful.

Guess you folks in Little Rock must have a taste of what the Middle East life. Have you started wearing flack jackets yet. So, where is the LR "Green Zone?"

dudbyinches- Maybe you can explain your 1:39 troll in plain english so it makes some sense.

"Guess you folks in Little Rock must have a taste of what the Middle East life. Have you started wearing flack jackets yet. So, where is the LR "Green Zone?" "

You can do the same thing with the same security in 90% of Little Rock. Almost all of the murder victims and perpetrators were black drug-users in a handful of very bad neighborhoods that most Little Rock residents, let alone visitors, barely know exist.

That's no excuse, but it's not exactly Beirut or even New Orleans. There are just a couple of ghetto neighborhoods where the drug culture is well out of hand as it is in most major and mid-major cities.

RT - I doubt very much the match would have paid for construction of expansion of the jail...the county's portion of the match for the big dam bridge was just $300K and about that much for the Trolley system. AND that money has come from the Road and Bridge fund which cannot be used for any other purpose no matter how much money they have in their fund - none can be used for any other project! The expansion I am sure will be in a few million. Do you know the cost of construction these days?!?! And if they did have the money to construct the darn thing, it is the operating cost that kills them!

I agree with what I heard on the radio the other day. They were playing "Gangster's Paradise" and saying that until the homicide rate goes down that it should be the capitol city's new fight song/alma mater.

Perry County

I'm impressed. You are one of the few people in Perry County able to use multi-syllable words. You forgot to mention while you were sipping your iced tea, the clothes were on the line, your teeth were soakin' and the grass needed to be trimmed around the junker on blocks in your front yard. You are an idiot if you think Little Rock is anything like what you described. What a hayseed moron!

you count NLR's 10 this year and Central AR has 52 plus. This is crazy folks!!!! I strong strong need for that jail could be made for sure. Keep more drug offenders out and more violent criminals in. e.g. even assault cases.

This is getting damn near absurd.
