Asa! makes big media buy
Roby Brock reports on his Talk Business blog that Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson purchased "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in broadcast television time for campaign advertising that will begin no later than Oct. 16.
There is a campaign finance angle to this story as well.
Finance reports filed this month showed Hutchinson with $1,158,305 in the bank, as compared to $1,289,055 for his Democratic opponent, Mike Beebe.
However, Brock points out that Beebe's figure represented his bank balance after his campaign purchased over $1 million in television advertising.
But Hutchinson waited until after filing his finance report to make his TV buy, which means the cash-on-hand difference between the campaigns is now likely wider by "hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Or, the campaign doesn't have the cash, made a down payment and is hoping the Chimpster in Chief will fly in and save the day.

Of course Asa has a fleecing of the old GOP cows coming up at Joe Klein's house with Retardo. They know there are still some blind old Cash Cows left in LR to milk. I'd give money to Asa to keep GWB from coming to Arkansas, except I think a visit from Retardo will do Asa more harm than good at the polls.
Still, if his goal is to gather as much money as possible before he walks off into history, he's got to have Bush at his side. Sorta like hanging a pork chop from a kid's neck in order to get the dog to play with him, but so be it.
No skin off my nose, but Mr. Klein will now wear the Bush taint around his neck for the rest of time. It will be noted in his obituary years from now that he was a Bush collaborator. You spin...you win. Or sometimes not.
At least the head Guidos in the Media Mafia get some good out of Asa's run. I like to imagine them heading for the bank with a Dixie Chicks CD blasting away in their tasteful Mercedes. I hope some of that media money filters down on good looking people like that Carolyn Long....remember her...wasn't she yummy?
As long as Asa doesn't buy a million pop-up ads on the AT blog I'll do just fine. Max.....you wouldn't?

You just know the television commercials will HAVE to include footge of the World Trade Towers being hit. Republican candidates at all levels will be exploiting/pimping that disaster for the rest of our lives.

Remember how often Halter was on TV. 75 days before the primary. Beebe will be on twice that amount over what Hutchinson can afford. I think because of that Beebe will win.
However, I just can't vote for him. He believes in intelligent design, he doesn't want to treat gay people equally, and he lied to a friend of mine. I could probably list a few other reasons, but these are sufficient to vote Lendell.

I find it funny that the Arkansas Times spent most of its time in the primaries pounding on the candidates who had ties to lobbyisits and raised a good bit of money but now that it is Beebe versus Hutchinson the Times is crowing.
Can we all say "double standard" or "favoritism" or maybe just "no journalistic integrity"

A$A will undoubtedly get more more next month from his St. Louis connection.

DO NOT VOTE FOR LENDELL OR BRYAN!!!!
THOSE ARE VOTES FOR ASA!!
VOTES FOR THE THIRD PARTY CANDIDATES (if they get on the ballot) ARE REALLY VOTES FOR HOLT AND GUNNER!!!!!!!
FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T VOTE AT ALL IF YOU HATE OUR CANDIDATES SO MUCH.
NADER CAN'T BE PROUD OF WHAT HE DID TO AMERICA. DON'T BE A PART OF DOING THE SAME TO ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey DBI, Carloyn is fat and old just like you. Ft. Smith has no good looking people. Must the the Indian lineage.

With DirecTV in this part of the state we get (for an additional charge) Springfield, MO for our local stations. Fayetteville is closer and Arkansas is our home. Sure wish some politician would get their constituents on the same bandwidth as their ad buys, news and sports. AETN would get some $ as well.

Lendell looks like something out of the 19th century. Does he own slaves? Have multiple wives? Live in Hillcrest?

OH ya!!!
Beebe drops a little over a million for TV and has 1.2+ left even before the Big Dog comes to town.
And under the dark of night the Hutchinson campaign tries to play a slight of hand - report 1.2 mil on hand and then drops 100's of for October, leaving the campaign with what? 2-3K?
And pray tell what will Bush bring - 100 - 200 folks at $500 bucks...that's called sucking the hind titty! Can't catch up. And Beebe marches on - yet another defeat for Hutchinson.
Oh happy day!!!

I love the way that liberals like Blueticker are ready to throw away every principle and belief to get behind Mike Both Sides Beebe just because he has more money. Suddenly that's all that matters to these guys! Hilarious.

BlueTicker, you fail to see that here are $500, $10,000, and $25,000 tickets to the event.

WHY WOULD I WANNA VOTE FOR BEEBE?
HE'S A PANDERING LIAR.
AT LEAST ASA BELIEVES IN THE SHIT HE'S SELLING.

Gee...I'm sorry.....if I was simple minded I'd say I am 100% behind anyone who believes what they're saying. But maybe JonBenet's killer said she was hot and wanted him bad. Maybe Hitler believed the Jews wanted a good gassing. I think maybe Richard Speck thought the nurses wanted to be dead. And it looks like Jeff Dahmer took it literally when his dates said EAT ME.
I have known people I respected who stood behind what they believed when it was a little bit wrong. We can mostly all live with a little bit wrong. But really....gassing Jews or killing student nurses is a tad over the line.
Asa is a tad over the line too. Too much for me to respect him for believing in the crap he's spewing. But ....nice try. Beebe ain't perfect, but he will be a good Governor.
Posted by: Deathbyinches | August 18, 2006 08:54 PM
Yes, sir, buddy, Asa! believes!
He won't be swayed, he isn't looking for someone to pat him on the back or teach him anything, because he believes!
Some people admire people who stand firn on their beliefs, even if it's all false, wrong, and a sure path to hell. Some people don't care what you believe, as long as you believe something.
I am not one of those people.
What people believe is important, and Asa's core belief's matter to me.
I'm voting Beebe.

Carolyn Long has more class in her little pinky than you do in your entire bloated brain. She's in pretty person country -- Fayetteville -- cranking out national award-winning documentaries and public service announcement about trival stuff like child abuse prevention and the houlocost. More than any of the candidates -- and most certainly more than the holier than thou posters -- here will ever do in a lifetime.

I don't fail to see that. Arkansas law says that only $2,000 per company or individual can be given Assa. The rest of the big dough is going to the RNC, who by the way, if their history serves itself here, isn't giving it back to a gubentorial candidate who is behind in fundraising 2 to 1 and down 8 points. They got bigger fish to get elected and whole lot more problems than a twice passed over former lap dog.
