Entergy requests another rate increase (UPDATE)
Entergy Arkansas today filed an application with the Arkansas Public Service Commission to increase its base rates by 7.5 percent, effective Sept. 14. If approved, it would be the company's first base rate increase in 21 years.
Entergy's rates went up 9.9 percent in July after the commission approved an earlier request.
The company predicted its base rate increase would result in a 9.3 percent rise for the average electricity bill.
UPDATE (4:35 p.m.): Democratic attorney general candidate Dustin McDaniel just issued a two-sentence statement:
"As Attorney General, I will do everything in my power to make sure that Arkansas rate payers are not unfairly burdened as a result of Entergy’s flawed system agreement. I will fight for consumers who are already paying too much to cool their homes and fill their gas tanks."

Comments
This rate increase only applies to conservatives. Progressives don't need energy products derived from foreign oil.

Seems like we are still getting screwed in this deal.
As I recall, didn't Louisiana or Mississippi opt for a cheaper power plant which we had to help them underwrite - then Arkansas built a more expensive nuclear plant (which would be less expensive to operate) which they DID NOT underwrite.
But now, we have to equalize costs so we Arkansans pay for their inefficient production, or they get the benefit of our efficient production - even though WE paid more to build a more efficient plant?
Or did I just dream this?

On my last electric bill from our friends at Entergy, the cost per unit of purchased fuel was up over 40% from the previous month (check your bills), resulting in a significant increase in the bill. Now they want to get the rest of my money.
When is it time for the utility to tighten its belt and not just the consumer.

Energy companies don't give a damn about what think. They just rec'd a huge increase recently on a turnaround vote on the Commission. Shady it was and shady this is as well.

Woo hoo! Dustin isn't going to make me pay this increase. I'm voting for him!

Uh....I'm pretty sure that Entergy doesn't have anything to do with gas tanks...but thanks Dustin. I feel better knowing you are going to be there for me.

What will Beebe's Public Service Commission look like? All friendly-to-utilities faces?
Huckabee's PSC has really let them have a field day, esp on phone charges. Amazing how the rates in neighboring Oklahoma are much lower for all public utilities. Hint: Okla public service commission is ELECTED.

Well, my wallet is getting hit at both the gas pumps and on my utility bills. I appreciate that Dustin recognizes that people are struggling to make ends meet.
I talked to Dustin at length at an event recently. He is a kind and decent man. He will make Arkansas proud after the pettiness of this campaign is over.

Is Dustin still driving that jag and flying himself aound in his plane???
I am sure that he can relate to the working people of Arkansas!

"Well, my wallet is getting hit at both the gas pumps and on my utility bills."
I don't want to suggest you stay current on news, but today's bird cage liner suggested that demand is one reason your gas prices are so high. My guess is that Mr. McDaniel doesn't drive a hybrid car. I would further guess that private jet his daddy owns doesn't burn biofuel or use solar power....just a guess.

Don't think DMc can do much about the price at the pump, world economics set that price; however, he can step up for consumers when it comes to fighting Louisiana's attempt to saddle us with higher electric costs. Step up for us Dustin, we need the help.

I saw Dustin two hours ago downtown. He was on the phone with a utilities attorney talking about the rate case. When he got off, he admitted that there was not much he could do about the FERC decision, but said he wants to really make a stand for ratepayers on increase requests.
He not only cares, but he is a very good lawyer. (Not something anyone ever says about Gunner)

Why do we even have a PSC if they are just going to be Entergy's rubber stamp?

The rate raise will kill Beebe's Governor's race...Beebe & Entergy ...go hand in hand. Yesss...Governor Hutchinson & Tax Cuts go hand in hand.

To all Anons who don't want to pay taxes:
Let's eliminate taxes altogether. Close the doors, fire all the government employees and send them home. Close the schools, fire departments, police departments, the parks, and the highways.
No more President, Vice-President, Courts, Senate, or House. No more Medicare, Social Security, or programs for the poor. No more Pentagon, no more Army, no more Navy, no more Marines. No more defense. No more state governemnt, no more local government. Fire 'em all, it's every man for himself.
No more taxes! Yes, that's the answer!
Seriously, when will the "I WANT MY MONEY BACK," and "HORRIBLE DEATH TAX"
idiots get a clue and realize that it is tax money which pays for all the things they need and enjoy?
And before you jump on me, trolls, I pay more in taxes than you will ever hope to earn. It pisses me off that my taxes are being squandered by the most incompetent bunch of crooks, liars, and thieves ever to occupy the White House.
I'm mad as hell and I'm voting Democrat all the way. The thugs must go, the sooner the better.

Ummm....Dustin, your lengthy self-help talks that you have with yourself in the mirror don't convince anyone else that you are kind or decent. You are neither and no one believes that you are. Just be happy that your daddy has deep pockets and you are running against a political incompetent.

It would be interested to know how much money McDaniel and DeLay have gotten from utilities. From just briefly scanning over their reports on the SoS website it looks like McDaniel has really been raking it in. Does anyone have comprehensive numbers?

Selective memory loss by Arkansas Times I suppose, way back in October Gunner DeLay issued this release, he also has called for electing the PSC. Anything Dustin can do to run away from the Remington lawsuit is helpful to him at the moment.

McDaniel has basically funded his campaign with his daddy's money and UTILITY CONTRIBUTIONS!!!
To now say that he will fight those same utilities in court is the most ridiculous thing I have heard throghout this whole election.

Good for Mr. McDaniel for this stance. I think we need to know his plans though. Dustin, please separate yourself from the rest of the liberals and shoot a solution at us voters.
