Escape by canoe
Yes, we took a one-day break from the blog. (Even God rested on the seventh day ....)
Drove yesterday afternoon to North Arkansas, camped overnight on the banks of the Spring River and floated it today. The water was ice-cold, the level was good and there weren't even that many people out. Not bad for August.

Glad you made it down the Spring River, Warwick. You deserved a day off. Hope Max is having a good vacation, too.

Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend. Ice-cold river sounds good right about now.

Did you catch any trout? I do hope you didn't use bait.

50 degrees year round. That would be a great place to be this time of year. Good choice.

My parents own a farm on the Spring River in Imboden, and when I was a teenager I went swimming there a lot. The water is always freezing, but you get used to it. It was especially fun to use innertubes at the usptream end of the farm and end up either at the east end, or get out at the bridge in Imboden.
I've been canoeing on it a few times too. It's not especially challenging, but it's fun and relaxing. There are a couple of creeks that you can paddle up a ways and see all the cabins built on the banks. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

Next time spend a peaceful afternoon on the Eleven Point River. Much like the Spring, including temperature, but not as crowded.

Ah, to be a kid again growing up on the banks of the Spring River...sleeping in my bathing suit so I wouldn't have to get dressed before jumping in the river...having my dog swim beside me and bringing me back to the bank when I grabbed his collar. Thanks for the memories.
