Hannity headlines Harding lecture series

Harding University today announced the 2006-07 schedule for its annual American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series, which will began on Sept. 21 with a speech by FOX News Channel host Sean Hannity.

Other speakers will include senior Wal-Mart executive Don Soderquist on Nov. 9, U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Janice Rogers Brown on Feb. 27 and former C.I.A. director George Tenet on April 26.

Comments

This says something about Harding U. that they would choose a propaganda peddler like Hannity for a "Distinguished" lecture.

I wonder if Beebe wins his home county?

What??? They couldn't get Rick Santorum, Ann Coulter, and Pat Robertson?

Sean Hannity - A true Republican Chickenhawk.

http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html

I lost all respect for Hannity the day I watched him humiliate a young man for writing an anti-war piece in his school paper. Hannity used his position as host to prove he could verbally abuse a high-school student....what a man.

Wow! A veritable parade of right-wing nutcases! Uh, well, I don't know about the Wal-Mart guy....

Wnat are they gonna do have a seminar on House Painting? that's what Hannity did before he was a rock n' roll dj.

I would love to see Hannity in a debate where Hannity did not control the button. Anyone need odds?

The Wal-Mart guy expecially.

I wonder if Beebe wins his home county?

Hannity scares me more than Bin Ladin, no joke; he is the ultimate spin doctor and has no respect for those who choose to disagree with his distorted reality.

"Wnat are they gonna do have a seminar on House Painting that's what Hannity did"

I guess that makes him beneath you?

You libs are such scum bags.

Your just pissed because America has awaken to the one after another lie that the Bush lie and die machine puts out!

Remember

Bush lied, Troops Died, Chickenhawks hide.

Not only is Sean Hannity a perfect example of what is wrong with Republicans today, he also perpetrates and promotes much of the nasty poison that clouds their politics.

Did you see Asa outraised Beebe last month by 50,000. Beebe had better re-capture the momentum.

Those who are excited about Sean Hannity need to remember how far the Republicans have stayed from the mainstream. Example:

In his farewell speech to the nation, President Eisenhower said, "...we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex... Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper IImeshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

If Eisenhower were alive today, he would be appalled at the direction that his party has taken.

Teddy Roosevelt was an ardent environmentalist and would probably be more at home with the Democrats than the Republicans.

Arch conservative Barry Goldwater left behind a beloved grandson who happens to be gay. He was an ardent supporter of gay rights late in life and is still one of the only members of his party to speak out against "Don't ask, don't tell." And he was a strong advocate of fiscal conservatism. BARRY GOLDWATER would probably be votong with the Democrats today!

Of course, roughly one third of the electorate will approve of this current corrupt party no matter what they do, because of the (R) behind the name. All are driven by pure greed, fear, and/or an unhealthy obsession with gays and abortion. A sizeable number, but technically not enough to win an election in the United States of America.

If the Republicans and Joe Lieberman win their elections this fall, I think I can speak for most of the dwindling middle class when I say that we will recognize, beyond any doubt, an election stolen. (...and many of us are pretty sure that last three were as well.)

Did you see Asa out raised Beebe last month by 50,000. Beebe had better re-capture the momentum.

Well, no kidding. In general, Republicans almost always out raise their counterparts...and it's not because of momentum; it's because they control most of the money.

Money, money and more money...what the GOP is all about. Dollar for dollar the Dems don't stand a chance.

Zelda, you obviously haven't lived in Arkansas very long. Democrats control the machine. They always outraise Republicans because every lobbyist is a democrat and every "good ole boy" is a democrat. Even Jimmy Lou raised as much as a sitting Governor (Huckabee) even though nobody thought she had a chance to win. Mark Pryor outraised Tim Hutchinson. Democrats have a huge advantage when it comes to fundraising.

Eisenhower would be appalled at his party because it has become just another form of the democratic party. Big government he did not believe in.

Today you have big government lite and big government heavy. That is the only difference. The states have become meaningless. This totally negates the concept of federalism.

Liberals are the party of big government and so it should encourage them that their philosophy has held sway with the republicans.

Amusing at best that liberals would hold Eisenhower to a standard for emulation. Liberals dispised Eisenhower and frequently mocked him when he was President. Ironically the county prospered under him. He was elected on the promise that he would get us out of korea. Again, an irony of history that it was the republican that was viewed as the peace candidate and not the democrat.

Conservatives hate war because they know of its destruction. However, they understand the nature of man and know that sometimes you must fight regardless of the cost.

"BARRY GOLDWATER would probably be votong with the Democrats today!"

One of my fav AuH2O quotes is what he had to say to southern conservatives upon being elected to the U.S. Senate:
"When you enter these chambers boys leave your Bibles at the door."

My how things have changed. Now they call for fullfillment of Biblical prophecy-- torching of the world,
burning of large amounts of human flesh to hasten Armeggeddon so that Santa Claus will come back and have Christmas for a 1000 years.

The tiger not only changed stripes it's no longer a tiger!
_

Zelda...You Old Biddie...where have you been? We have pounded your little group of socialists into the ground while you were in the can.. I'm glad you are back to at least make the game interesting. I am ordering my tickets to see Sean tomorrow. Wanna go with us?

"Did you see Asa out raised Beebe last month by 50,000. Beebe had better re-capture the momentum."

Come on Republicans, you think we came in on a turnip truck?

In the last 2 months, Hutchinson has brought in McCain, Cheney and just about every other Republican whore....and today, the Chimpster in Chief is coming!!

These people didn't open their checkbooks for Asa, he had to entice them to come. They came to see their pagan God's and feel important and get to throw an arm around one of the usual suspects for a photo op.

This is all about the money. He can't raise it, can't even come near to what Beebe has raised. Panic sets in, phone calls are made, favors are called and in come the troops to try and rescue the sinking ship. And when he exhausts the usual suspects, he'll have to resort to his own resources or get the on phones...which obviously has not been working for Hutchinson.

One more Republcian Governor's seat lost.

Everytime I see another "here I come to save the day" Republican in the state to troll for dollars for Asa, the more I know things are not going well. With the Chimpster and Chief in town and charging ONLY $500.00 - you know that desperation is setting in.

Crap, still got to lose that 20 pounds to get into my best blue suit for the Inaugral Ball. And all this talk about BBQ is killing me. Oh hell, Whole Hog here I come.

Like all univerisities, Harding should be a place were varied opinions are discussed and debated.

Sean Hannity, however, consistently engages in ad hominem attacks.

He does not merely disagree with progressives, he attempts to degrade them.

His lack of civility should not be tolerated by any institution, especially by a Christian University.

It wont help, but I'd sign a petition protesting this very poor decision.

"Wnat are they gonna do have a seminar on House Painting that's what Hannity did"

"I guess that makes him beneath you?
You libs are such scum bags."

No just makes him totally UNqualified to hold any position requiring intelligent, educated debate or commentary. It does indicate, that like you, he is very good at shouting down others. From the nature of your comments you don't have an inkling about qualifications, thus a house painter, cabby, fry cook, dope-head, could brainwash you.
---------------------------------------------------
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H. L. Mencken
_

LWood - H.L. sure knows how to call'em.

Hannity is stupid. He misconstrues facts, makes up facts, has no analytical skills whatsoever. He's a television talk show host -- he's a Distinguished Lecturer? This is indicative of the rising influence of anti-intellectualism. The Bullet-Point Generation -- this new breed of folks who have a half dozen "convictions" they won't budge on and go around fighting about.

I repeat, Hannity is stupid.

My question is this: Has anyone ever heard Hannity express an opinion about Asa? Does anyone know if Hannity ever complained to Bush and Co. about Asa?

I've wondered if Hannity might have had a hand in keeping Asa from being promoted.

Here's why: About 3 years ago, before Asa was passed over for that Homeland Security top job, Hannity called Asa (on the radio show) and questioned him about the immigration problems. Asa was evasive -- couldn't answer the questions.

Hannity was furious and said this Asa guy didn't deserve to be in charge of anything. He made several snarling comments to various callers about getting Asa out of that job. Heh heh.

I enjoyed hearing Hannity try to hold Asa's feet to the fire and would have listened to more of the show, but I arrived at work and had to shut off the radio.

That's the only time I ever listened to Hannity. It was really a sleazy program -- even though he was going after Asa. I wonder what he'll say about our Asa.

I can't listen to that Hannity idiot for more than a few seconds before I'm ready to rip his head off. He's got a big mouth with nothing to say, just like O'Reilly. I'd like to see him in a debate where someone was in charge of the scoreboard and the clock besides himself.

So that's why Hannity isn't coming to Arkansas to raise money for Asa. Oh, he knows him, huh. I think Hannity is a douche, but his popularity ratings are way above Cheney or Bush. Harding should follow Hannity up with Jason Blair, the lying, faking NY Times guy.

Making it up, Blair got more things right than Hannity. It's amazing the cheap used car salesman types that Republicans love. But then look who they elected President. Someday Americans will look back at the Bush era and just feel ashamed in their bones. But one good thought....after Bush-Cheney our country can go nowhere but up. Hear me....the good times are coming if we just live long enough.

At the rate they're going, next time Harding will sign up someone from the National Inquirer. I want to know all about Elvis having that Martian baby.......

Here are a couple of items from Harding's mission statement:

"The promotion of Christian ethics - creating an atmosphere that emphasizes integrity and purity of thought and action."

"The promotion of citizenship within a global perspective - developing a Christian understanding of and respect for other cultures through an emphasis on liberty and justice."

Yep, I can see how Hannity fits right into that.

Do they allow any channels but Fox at Church of Christ schools?

HANNITY: "It doesn't say anywhere in the Constitution this idea of the separation of church and state." (8/25/03)

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

"...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

Congratulations, Harding...but you could have saved some money with just reaching over for Bradley R. Gitz...

Sorry...^

Bradley R. Gitz is a shining example of why morons should not be in positions to influence the minds of young people. Lyon College should get rid of him and replace him with someone who encourages critical thinking, not revisionist, spin-doctoring, neo-con, "my way or the highway," and "disagree with me and I'll flunk you" dogma.
And did his wife divorce him recently?

What happened to Harding? They used to have important speakers, people who were capable of original thought, people of scholarship, people of the conservative stripe who commanded the power to reason, who had earned their position of influence by actions as well as words.

Now Harding has sunk to inviting a B-list television sideshow carnie, a cheeseball whose only ideas are written for him by somebody else on a teleprompter. Really, this is embarrassing.

Yeah and Gitz filed for bankruptcy days before the new law went into affect last year. With a combined income (including his wife's) of over $100,000 in small town Arkansas and they STILL cannot manage their finances. Doesn't sound like sound conservative take-responsibility-for-yourself doctrine. Sounds to me like someone no longer has credibility.

Blue Ticker..just keep those 20 ugly pounds fatso...'cause you ain't going to the Inaugral Ball pal...Governor Hutchinson doesn't want your kind there. You can take your crying towell over to Hillcrest with the rest of your communist buddies and sit around that night.

The Neocon way!

To spend a trillion US Taxpayer's dollars paying for security, roads, buildings, hospitals, teachers and
health care for the people of Iraq is "sound fiscal policy".
To do the same for the children of the USA would be "socialism".

Riverdog..You don't pay any taxes so shut the f--- up. YOU should not even be allowed to vote.

Your just mad because all are not marching to Hitler Youth song's.

BTW- New poll numbers are out for W "THE FAILURE"

http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm

You made my day - struck a nerve cowardly Anon?

And thank you so much for you insights and on point counters to my observations. You did yourself proud yet again.

And I got $10.00 that you little man will be on the outside looking in as I enjoy my glass of Champaign at the Governor's mansion in January.

Yes, you are exactly right, Hutchinson don't want our kind around - he's had his hat handed to him in what? 5 elections - beat like a yard dog. The ONLY election your boy ever won in this state is the hand me down Congressional seat from brother Tim. And fortunately, NWA only exsists in NWA and there's a great vast BLUE shaded state left. Yet another Democrat is gonna hand Mr. Hutchinson his walking papers, got $10.00 bucks?

If I may add...

God,
Did Gitz really declare bankruptcy? Do you have a link to the court records? I want to send this to Hunkabilly of Izard County, who is his biggest fan! Remember him? He is still around, trolling as an ANON.

Reminiscing about Ike. Lot of good will felt by the American people when he was elected in 1952. One of the best men we ever elected to the White House, although his romantic involvement with his English chaffeur (Kay Summersby) created a little turmoil, especially when he told General Marshall he wanted to divorce Mamie and marry Kay. But he was honest and had a genial character.

When it came to politics he campaigned as a Republican: pledged a balanced budget, thrift in government, stop inflation, remove the communist conspiracy in D.C.
He hated politics and politicians. His health was precarious and he depended far too much on his sec. of state John F. Dulles, one of the wealthy corporate lawyers he appointed to high positions.

But when it came to being president, he began to follow policies he had earlier condemned.
1). He enlarged Social Security to cover 10 million more people.

2). He broadened unemployment compensation.

3). The minimum wage was hiked from .75 to 1.00 an hour.

4). He initiated programs for public housing.

5). A 4 cent tax was put on fuel to pay for a $40 billion interstate highway system.

6). He tried federal aid to public schools and failed. Sputnik later took care of that barrier.

7). Then there's the Eisenhower Soil Bank Plan, a dead ringer for New Dealism.

8). And he put Turman's St. Lawrence Seaway project into gear.

In other words, he was more like a Democrat while president than a Republican.

Ah, Harding U. They should rename it Koolaid U!

You have to hand it to ANON. He/she/it (no, that's not what I said) is able to post more than anybody without actually saying anything. Amazing, actually. "Call them names, that's how you win." Was it his coach or his dad that taught him that valuable lesson?

Hey, Anonymous! I recognize your voice! You were the guy flirting with the busboy Saturday night at Legend's. Hey, good buddy! Good to hear from you again. Hope you got lucky!

Gitz gets compassion
David Koon
Updated: 12/22/2005
Dr. Bradley R. Gitz, the Lyon College professor who contributes a twice-weekly column to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has some favorite topics.

Liberals, for one. He doesn't like them much because, according to him, they hate capitalism and love socialism.

Money is another recurring theme. As he wrote Dec. 1, "Take away the concept of greed and there is precious little left of the economic value system of the Democratic Party. Democrats might not stand for much anymore, but they continue to know what they hate, and what they hate with great gusto is the

thing called greed. The problem comes in realizing that, whatever its relevance in other contexts, the idea of greed has absolutely no political meaning."

Greed should have no political meaning, Gitz suggests in another column, because people are doing so much better economically. "While those in higher income brackets inevitably experienced greater absolute gains," he wrote of recent times, "those in each of the brackets below them also saw historically impressive advances." No thanks to government welfare programs, by the way. He also has written, ".we have forgotten that the cycle of multigenerational poverty and dependence, symbolized by unwed black mothers on welfare raising children slated to become first dropouts and then convicts, was largely a consequence of our last effort to eradicate poverty in the form of Lyndon Johnson's Great Society."

Gitz once offered "proven ideas" to reduce poverty. "The most prominent of these are the cultural values of educational achievement and personal responsibility, and public policies featuring incentives for entrepreneurship and hard work."

Given his emphasis on personal responsibility and his stated resistance to a compassionate government ("compassion isn't, after all, found anywhere in the nation's governing documents"), you'd think Dr. Gitz would love the new bankruptcy code. It doesn't coddle those who've irresponsibly run up bills with capitalists that they can't pay.

Perhaps he does favor the new code. All the same, on Oct. 10, seven days before the new bankruptcy code went into effect, Gitz and his wife filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code on $212,302.83 in debt - their home mortgage and $74,000 in unsecured debt, mostly on a dozen credit cards. He reported about $270,000 in assets - home equity, two cars and a college retirement account.

The couple reported about $96,000 in income in the most recent full year, 2004, reported on the bankruptcy filing - $57,470 from Lyon College, $11,645 from the Democrat-Gazette and $27,444 from the American Cancer Society.

More than 1.1 million people filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2004. Under the old bankruptcy law, Chapter 7 filers had certain assets liquidated with the money going to creditors, and most remaining debts canceled. Because many Chapter 7 filers didn't have assets that qualified for liquidation, creditors often received zilch. Credit card companies weren't happy about that and Congress gave them more protection.

Under a new law that went into effect Oct. 17, tougher conditions mean fewer people are allowed to file clean-the-slate Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Under the alternative, Chapter 13, the filer is put on a multi-year repayment plan that can make it harder to get out of a hole.

A call to Gitz about his filing found him "waiting on a conference call" with an agreement to speak the next day. Subsequent attempts to reach him have so far been unsuccessful.

Bankruptcy is a legal process, provided for good reason. I know people who have filed; good, middle-class people who lost a job, or had a family member get sick without insurance. When it finally happens, it's about as humiliating as it can get, especially for anybody who sweats the bills every month and gives a little smile when the ends manage to meet.

Given that, the idea that there are nogoodniks out there filing bankruptcy just to get a matched set of Coach luggage and a trip to NASCAR fantasy camp without paying for it is, in my experience, a fairy tale.

So why rub Gitz's face in what is arguably a personal financial matter? Because conservative columnists like him routinely and vocally seek the annihilation of "liberal" programs like welfare, food stamps and bankruptcy protection (Gitz himself has not written about the bankruptcy code as best we could tell), the very programs that step in to help put hard-working people back on their feet. Perhaps his own experience will soften future criticism of the welfare state.

Preach it Brother and pass the Plate - I'm in.

Harding Lecture Series -- A Must Miss!

thanks, God, I somehow missed this. I will make sure others don't.
I have no problem with people filing for bankruptcy if that's the only way out of a nightmare of debt, but the Gitz family income is/was almost $100,000 per year.
And he earns this by spreading the Republican message.
Interesting that he filed a quit claim deed to his wife on 5/16/06.
Thanks, God.

American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series

OK, the word Distinguished screws this all up. There is nothing distinguished about Hannity...find it....link it...show us. And what can you say about Medal of Honor winner George Tenet?

Here is a man who can't tell us where 8 BILLION dollars in Iraqi money went. 8 billion, dozens of other screw ups and Harding thinks he qualifies for distinguished?

I'm about to sound like Hunkahillbilly here and warn of trusting any of them college idiots. Someone at Harding needs to study up on the word distinguished and get back to us. Can Linda Tripp be far behind on the schedule of this distinguished lecture series? A Pox....a pox I say!

BlueTicker-

There is a $25,000 a head reception for Bush as well.

Ecce! Spiro et Spero:

Thanks for that juicy little tidbit. I may visit this distinguished lecture just to ask Mr. Hannity for his distinguished opinion on A$a!.

rosso comes through with checkable facts and the Gallup poll. You nonys should take a look at yourselves in the Gallup poll. There aren't very many of you left.

dubya and his buddies have really screwed up the Republican party for everyone.

25K? We'll again, no turnip truck here. That 25K per person isn't going to ole Asa, because Arkansas election law say you can only contribute 2K for the general for Hutchinson.

The cash is going into the RNC, which, with the Arkansas Gov's race being called as solidly in the D pickup list - isn't coming back through the Gov's Assoc or the RNC or the state R Party and even one of those nasty 527's you coward's hide behind.

You Republicans got too (a record) number of Congressional seats to defend, not counting the Senate seats. And all us dumb liberals know that if the D's take over Congress, there is gonna be a never ending perp walk coming out of the WH. Right now every dime means more CYA money for our elected and appointed crimminals.

Eisenhower would be appalled at his party because it has become just another form of the democratic party. Big government he did not believe in.

Today you have big government lite and big government heavy. That is the only difference. The states have become meaningless. This totally negates the concept of federalism.

Conservatives hate war because they know of its destruction. However, they understand the nature of man and know that sometimes you must fight regardless of the cost.

Oh yes, Conservatives are the wiser. Just look at this economy and invasion of rights. Ignore Clinton's record.

You oversimplification (like "Conservatives hate war because they know of its destruction"....as opposed to liberals?) is ridiculous and a waste of time.

There are intelligent and articulate conservatives who would serve Harding's alleged educational goals. Hannity is not one of em...he's not even close. But I don't believe Harding's goal is about expanding their students' minds. I'm not sure, however, if Harding has ever pretended to be anything other than the heavy-handed religious entity it's always been. It's a church with a right-wing religious agenda that happens to educate on the side. And, any one who's lived in the area (I grew up in a nearby small town) knows that Harding is Hannity...and Rush...and Bush...and Coulter. It's intolerant and thuggish within its own walls as well as within the community it dominates.

hey Zelda...are you ashamed of your hometown ("...small town nearby.") ? Are you afraid the folks there will be upset that one of their own is a socialist?

Hugh baby..we don't care what you scum bag liberals think about the Republican Party. You need to worry about your own Party (Demo I guess) You socialists have runied it...which is a good thing...Have you tried Paxil?

You are the village idiot we all know and feel sorry for peace be with you delta dawn

First, Harding has always had conservative thinkers (don't laugh) in its lineup -- Thatcher, Buckley, Powell, etc.. I think bringing in hucksters like Hannity actually undermines a strong tradition of conservative academic study. If that is what passes for deep thought in 2006, the right really is in trouble.Secondly: that Bradley Gitz story is the best thing g*dd@mn I've heard all week. What a total nazi dryhump. I nominate Gitz for the next slot on Harding's schedule.

Sorry, didn't mean to curse and shout at the same time.

Another example of why Harding is one our state's biggest laughing stocks. A diploma mill that serves up political hacks as "distinguished" lecturers? Sign me up. Or not.

Harding is one of this state's laughing stocks? That's a new one on me. It may be many things, i.e., a conservative marriage factory and host to a shameful neocon lectureship series. But, I still don't see how it serves to be one of this state's biggest embarrassments.

Any school that has an 11PM curfew, requires its female students (and not its male students) to maintain "good housekeeping" in their dorms, and requires its students to "check out" on the weekends if they want to leave town is only a few media glances away from being Arkansas's Bob Jones U. If you don't think Harding is a laughing stock, you're not having conversations with anyone in Jonesboro, or Little Rock, or Conway, or Fayetteville, or any of the state's other college towns.

Well, maybe it's less like the HUASI really really wanted these guys and more like they were the ones that agreed to come. Can't have Margaret Thatcher every year ...

You're right, FedUp. As long as Huckabee's our governor, Asa has a chance to be governor, and we have the creationism museum and the KKK up north, Harding can only aspire to be the state's biggest embarassment.

Perhaps they can have Sore Loserman added to the lineup!

There have been several good points about Hannity and Tenet made in this forum. However, several people are obviously ignorant about the rules and, very well documented, academic achievements of Harding University. If you want to name one of the most best schools in America (according to U.S. News and Peterson's Competitive Colleges) an Arkansas laughing stock than you are showing your true colors.

Ha Ha Ha!!!

It definitely is one of the Most Best Schools in America.

Looking at the Facts is looking like an idiot.

Harding isn't even a top-20 regional school, not to mention it isn't considered a national university or a national liberal arts college. You're absolutely right, Looking at the Facts - looking at the US News rankings will reveal that Harding is incredibly mediocre at best.

I am leaving my 2 baby grand pianos to Harding when I die. Remind my wife please.

As an HU professor, I'd like to say that not of all of us up here in Searcy are conservative or agree with the ASI series. And the students I teach work very hard for their diplomas. I ensure that. Now the GRAD programs....that's another story. As far as the rules go, don't necessarily agree with them, but the students are quite aware of them when they choose to come here. It's kind of like voluntary lock-up, I guess. Won't be attending of the lectures myself.

Harding is not listed as a national college because it does not offer enough doctoral degrees. BTW, Harding IS in the TOP 25 schools of the south and there are no other Arkansas schools above them. So, once again, if you are calling Harding a "laughing stock" or "mediocre" than AR higher education is bad shape.

Harding is second only to the U of A in the number of national merit scholars enrolled and with the exception of the U of A, has more than all the other institutions in AR combined.

As a Hendrix grad, I think some conservative competition makes Arkansas a better place.
