Clinton School, Foundation to host symposium in celebration of President Clinton’s 60th Birthday
Panel One – “The FOB’s Turn 60: growing up with Bill Clinton”
Panel Two – “From Tricycles to Bicycles to Air Force One: the rise of a political star”
August 19, 2006
The University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service and the William J. Clinton Foundation will host a symposium focusing on the life of the 42nd President, featuring two panel discussions inside the Great Hall of the Clinton Center on August 19, Clinton’s 60th birthday. The first panel, hosted by the Clinton School, entitled “The Friends of Bill (FOB’s) Turn 60,” will feature five of President Clinton’s childhood friends reliving stories and events from growing up with the president. Panelists include moderator Paul David Leopoulos and other Hot Springs natives Rose Crane, Mauria Aspell, Carolyn Staley and Joe Newman.
After a break for birthday cake, the Clinton Foundation will host a second panel called, “From Tricycles to Bicycles to Air Force One: The Rise of a Political Star,” a name derived from editorial cartoons by the late George Fisher of the Arkansas Gazette and Arkansas Times depicting Clinton as a young politician, riding tricycles and bicycles. This discussion will feature moderator Bobby Roberts, Patty Criner, Bob Nash and other former staffers to Clinton during his statewide political campaigns and years in the Governor’s office. The panelists will speak on Clinton’s rise as a statewide political figure, prior to becoming president.
During the symposium guests will enjoy McClard’s Bar-B-Que from Hot Springs, the president’s favorite Bar-B-Que growing up.
The schedule for the symposium will be as follows:
11:00 a.m. – Lunch served by McClard’s Bar-B-Que
11:15 a.m. – Panel one: The FOB’s Turn 60
12:15 p.m. – Break for birthday cake
12:45 p.m. – Panel two: From Tricycles to Bicycles to Air Force One
Tickets to the symposium are $15, including lunch and desert. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. To reserve a ticket for the event, please contact Nikolai DiPippa at publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu, or call 501-683-5239. Payment will be accepted upon arrival to the event.

Everyone is asking...Will Monica attend?...Will she be wearing the Blue dress? will Gennifer sing.."Happy Birthday Mr. President" ?

This is a great idea--should be fun. Give the Clinton folks credit. They had a celebration for George W. Bush's birthday too. I also appreciate the partnership with Governor Huckabee on fighting childhood obesity.

Nikolai DiPippa who is coordinating the birthday event is a friend of mine from Hendrix. He is top notch. If he is in charge, it will be super. Thanks for including McClard's. Living in Hot Springs, I can tell you the Clinton tourists flock there and the food is terrrific.

I am so glad Bob Nash will be there. Bob is chairman of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation Board. It will be good to see him. Count me in.

I just talked with Nikolai and reserved my seat for the Clinton birthday bash. The fact that Clinton partnered with Huckabee to fight childhood obesity, when he could have easily taken on the campaign himself, says a lot about Clinton. Happy 60th b-day!

Nikolai DiPippa is a media star!
Posted by: Nikolai Fan Club | August 2, 2006 10:04 AM
Nikolai was a star at Catholic High, a star at Hendrix and now he's a media star. Good for him.
Posted by: I know Nikolai too | August 2, 2006 10:07 AM
This makes me want to throw up. I would rather die than to celebrate Clinton's birthday.
Posted by: what a stupid idea | August 2, 2006 10:16 AM
Hendrix basketball is going to miss Nikolai DiPippa. He was the ringleader of the student fan section. It won't be the same.

Happy 60th birthday. We will be driving from West Memphis to be at the celebration.

What a stupid comment. If you feel that much hate for Clinton you might want to seek professional help because you've got a screw loose.

Is this a birthday celebration for Clinton or Nikolai DiPippa?

Who is Nikolai DiPippa?

I met Nikolai at the pool this summer. He is sooo hot!!! For those of you who don't know him you REALLY should!

I met Nikolai at the pool this summer. He is sooo hot!!! For those of you who don't know him, he is one cool guy.

I'm glad they are having this celebration for him. Past presidents really don't have many meaningful things to do and it is really hard on the ego to become so inconsequential. It will help his ego.

At least the barbecue will be good. Everything else. . . yawn.
Posted by: Oh well | August 2, 2006 10:39 AM
This is just silly. I am Nikolai DIPippa, and I am not a media star. it is not a birthday celebration for me, it is for President Clinton. Katie-you did not meet me at the pool.
Posted by: Nikolai DiPippa | August 2, 2006 10:41 AM
I would go if the barbecue were free. If it isn't---not worth it.
Posted by: Anonymous | August 2, 2006 10:44 AM
I heard Nikolai donates his spare time to finding homes for displaced cats, dogs, and livestock. Nikolai DiPippa is a GOD SEND!!!

I'm purchasing my ticket today! The Celebration will be awesome~Thanks for coordinating this media star!

Yes, but the question is whether the auditorium will be large enough for bill and nikolai's egos.

"At least the barbecue will be good..."
I don't know, man. I guess I was one of those 'Clinton tourists' that had to give McClard's a try. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but the pork sandwich was like eating a pile of sawdust on a bun...so finely chopped it was almost like dust...and drier than a popcorn fart ! I told my campanion if Bill Clinton liked this place he must have been banging some waitress in the kitchen...probably the same one who asked us if we wanted mayonaise on our BarBQ sandwich...yech !
I'll take Memphis style and the Rendezvous anytime.

JB,
I also grew up with McClards but have to agree with you that Memphis BBQ is far better. I don't remember McClards as being that bad. People used to drive down from LR to eat there. Fortunately, we had the original 'Shack' at 3rd and Victory so the trip wasn't that frequent.

You have a weak troll fu.
Those who know Nikolai, know he lacks an ego that would compete with the former President's.
The last few times I've had McClard's, it was exceptional. JB, you may have just had a bad day.
Posted by: Themis | August 2, 2006 01:03 PM
Themis..Is all that Bar-B-Q the reason you look like a fat slob?
Posted by: Anonymous | August 2, 2006 01:14 PM
Well, the troll fu is particularly thick today.
Actually, I look nothing like a fat slob. In fact, if you tried to tell people who me that I am fat they would laugh you out of the room.
Now, do you have anything productive to add to this conversation?

That should have read "people who know me..."

Ever heard the planned FOB moderator Paul David Leopoulos speak? He goes ON and ON and ON and is quite infatuated with his own quips, and his own agenda, etc. Pack a lunch to eat if his part of the program is before the BBQ is served! I'd think they could find somebody with better presentation skills than Leopoulos. Great heart...weak presentor. And, yes we know that he heads up the THEA Foundation in memory of his daughter...but still...he's not a presentor.

Will the Chinese have a special place on the program? They did finance the place.

It will soon be a sell out and I heard CSPAN is covering.

What do Nikolai DiPippa and Drew Pritt have to do with each other?
Posted by: Yep | August 2, 2006 09:34 PM
I heard Little Texas is playing. Any truth to this?
Posted by: Anonymous | August 2, 2006 09:47 PM
Warwick,
Can you identify and remove the three above posts? This hate-Pritt nut is going too far when he libels another person.
I don't know either one of them, but I hope DiPippa sues the hell out of the ANON poster and that you will assist in the lawsuit.

The original Shack was actually located on what is now the State Capitol grounds about where the Justice Building is. It was truly a Shack.

Thanks, Warwick.

I think this event, and a chance to see the Clinton library combined with a one day Billgramage would make a great 3 day vacation. BUT if I am going to drive all of the way from Cincinnati, Bill Clinton will have to be there too.
