The second coming
Repubs will have a successful fund-raiser today thanks to a presidential visit, even if he's being kept largely out of public view.
We suspect there will be plenty of opportunities to see Bill Clinton when he rolls into town Sept. 7 to raise money for Democrats. And we like the odds that he'll outraise the current prez, despite having no government favors to dispense. The lineup:
1.) Private reception for Dustin McDaniel at Bill Clark's house (that would be his long-time supporter and former highway commissioner, not the head of CDI.). Remember that Clinton got his start politically as AG, in 1976.
2.) Doing frog leg event for coordinated campaign at Alltel.
3.) All-star gala at Peabody after that.
4.) Dinner for coordinated campaign at Nu.
Nobody will attend these with bags over their head.

Only Max could associate Bill with the second coming. Or, do I misunderstand your meaning?

I went to see Mark Pryor yesterday at UAFS in Fort Smith. I came away troubled. Maybe Bill Clinton can give Pryor a little advice when he's in the state next month.
My impressions of Mark Pryor was that he's a pretty nice guy and as a lawyer could get you a decent settlement in a divorce. He was friendly like an insurance salesman. He's a nice looking man, got a great gray thing starting in his hair. Nice smile, purty eyes.
I spent all day and night thinking about him yesterday. He's not the man we need in office right now. He's not doing his job. His father was always well liked, never embarrassing, never a scandal, but upon recent reflection David Pryor was not a great Senator like Fulbright, McClelland or Bumpers.
David Pryor was a heck of a nice guy who served 3 terms in easy times when Democrats were driving the bus. He was an outstanding guy, but not a brilliant Senator. He earned our love and respect by being decent at all times. The same thing can be said about his son, Mark Pryor.
Only problem.....we are not living in easy times with Democrats at the wheel. We live in horrible times and the Republicans are rabid. They eat nice guys for lunch every day. Mark Pryor is no match for them.
Yesterday he didn't say Democrat once. He praised Bush a couple of times and only managed to say Bush throws out big ideas, never has a plan on implementing them and under funds it all. Pryor said good things are going on in Iraq. He's against gay marriage and flag burning. He said reaching across the isle was important and the Gang of 14 did good work.
He finished by answering a question about Lieberman by saying Joe Lieberman was his friend, a good man, a moderate voice in America and that we need a more men like Joe Lieberman. Sounds to me like walking right into the trap Republicans set by talking about weak Democrats who have no plans or good ideas.
We are living under a 1 and 1/2 party system. Weak, friendly, puppy dog Democrats like Lincoln and Pryor become tools of the neo-con rightwing. Review Mark and Blanche's voting record for proof. As the decent people of Germany couldn't friendly Hitler out of power, so using nice and reasonable with murderous neo-cons won't work either.
My favorite people are nice, friendly, good folks. But now is not the time. We're in a tight spot. We need 2 real strong genuine Democrats that can be tough and fight tooth and nail for the soul of this country. Bush-Cheney are walking all over our Senators, all over Congress really, it's how they've managed 6 years without a leash. Pryor's warm fuzzy Town Hall Meeting yesterday has left me depressed and hopeless.
He'll never do any good at stopping Bush-Cheney. Mark's shooting blanks. And I get no pleasure saying it.

Nothing much to add to D's comment. Remember, 73.1%....sheesh...
While I feel like I identify, generally, with the Democratic platform, why don't I feel like I can identify with our elected Dems here in Arkansas (except maybe for Snyder)?
Believe me, I am not a rabid liberal that keeps an open ended ticket to Cuba, as our anony$taffer friends would have you believe...this is just embarrassing.
Take a good, hard look at the state of our union...feel pretty good about things?
Iraq is just peachy...and you're a fascist if you oppose the government's misbegotten war...
New Orleans? Forget about it...done. This administration is incapable of compassion...or simple responsibility for that matter...
And in the distance I hear the war drums pounding...again. Chickenhawks are putting Iran on their radar...
Man...now I'm depressed...

2008
Primary for U.S. Senate:
Lt. Gov. Bill Halter 52%
Senator Mark Pryor 48%
General Election for U.S. Senate:
Lt. Gov. Bill Halter 49%
State Senator David Bisbee 51%
Another prediction, If the Dems don't take back the House in 2006, Berry and Snyder will both retire in 2008.

ROFL! Think I just peed a little.
Maybe Halter should start off a little slower and run for a slightly more influential office than LG first. Maybe Mark Wilcox will get tired and vacate....

2.) Doing frog leg event for coordinated campaign at Alltel.
Does anyone have details on this event? Is it open to the public and affordable?

I don't see any events for Sept. the 7th even listed on the DPA website. I'm curious about the Alltel thing too.

Got an invite to the Sept. 7th Gala last week. It's a Clinton for Beebe fundraiser and a $1000 a head.
