Tuesday twilight

It was a long, busy day for us at the Arkansas Times. Enjoy this evening's open line.

I loved Braveheart. I loved The Patriot. I'm not an Israel hugger.

But I will never, under any circumstances, watch another Mel Gibson movie. It would be like watching a film by KKK productions.

What irks me is that Mel Gibson is accorded the same status as Paul or James by the fundamentalists. Writer of a new Gospel.

Good point, Roland.
I never watched "Passion." I don't like obscenity. To me overly violence and gore is obscene. Plus, the myth of Jesus being long bearded, long haired and feminine, as envisioned by the 15th century Renaissance artists, continued to be promoted in our culture. El Junko, in my opinion.

Sen. Max Baucus's son killed in Iraq

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/breaking_news/15173991.htm

My bad .. it ws Baucus's nephew, not his son.

Sen. Max Baucus's son killed in Iraq

Nephew. But point taken.

I don't like obscenity.
Posted by: Cato

I'm not sure DBI and I can make the same statement. Does pornography count as obscenity?

"pornography count as obscenity?"

Nope. Not the same. Pornography is not necessarily obscene and obscenity is not necessarily pornography.

What makes it hard to define obscenity is that what is obscene to one person is not obscene to another person. Thus, a person who is offended by pictures of nude bodies may have no trouble watching "Texas Chainsaw Massacre # 13."

Is this death in Iraq of an immediate family member by Sen. Max Baucus a first for any member of Congress? Just wondering....

Does anybody want to start a pool about the congressional elections?
My money is on:

Dems take House by 2 members
Repubs keep Senate by 2.

Repubs will blame the war for their losses; Dems will blame the economy for theirs.

Dems sweep the state offices.

No tax passes anywhere in the state.

And, the Wild Card:

Drew Pitt goes into a monastery, renounces politics, and devotes the remainder of his life working on his autobiography, "Famous People I Knew Who Went to Heaven."

Drew Pritt will never renounce politics. He'll just move to a different state and run there, denying that he really ran here. No ballot access = "I explored a race but decided against it."

My own personal prediction: Pritt will run every single state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico before he retires. He will be on the ballot exactly two more times, once for town selectman in a little village in Maine and once for tribal leadership in the Cherokee Nation. After failing in all of these bids, he will write a novel called "My Illustrious Career" about a character named Andrew Pitt who rises to become President.

"It's been very well stated that very few blind people join the nudist colonies."

Arkansas has a school for the blind. Does Arkansas have any nudist colonies?

Drew,

You were never in the Army were you?

You joined ROTC at one of the half dozen colleges you have been in and got kicked out didn't you?

Also you speak out against the war now, but back when you though you could capitalize on it you were all for it weren't you?

Spin away fat boy!!

I don't even know who Drew Pitt is, but anyone who is attacked over and over by an ignorant troll has to have something going for him.

Those of us who know who Drew Pritt is would think AnonTroll 32 to be lucky, if he weren't clearly Pritt.

Ya know 32, getta outta my head...

I was thinking the same thing. This TFM attacks Pritt everynight, right after grade school lets out. He calls Pritt a sickco and yet, he appears to have a very unhealthy fixation of Pritt.

And of course Pritt doesn't help the this back and forth trash. He'd be a much wiser man if he'd just step away and not take the bait from this TFM.

I know I'd be a much happier blogger if I didn't have to see the mental frailities of these 2 night raiders.

Andrew,

How many times have you been arrested and how long did you spend in jail?

Every time you post as someone else I will ask a new and revealing question about your shady past.

I, too, and sick of the Pritt-Anon back and forth garbage.
Stop it now!

I'm voting for Stodola for mayor. What about you guys?

DeLay challenges McDaniel; tell the people of Arkansas the truth about his actions in suing Remington Arms

Gun owner's rights are a key issue in the race for Attorney General

North Little Rock- Gunner DeLay, republican candidate for attorney general, held a press conference today launching a statewide tour of forty cities and towns highlighting the vast differences between himself and his opponent, Dustin McDaniel, on the issue of gun owner's rights. He explained the purpose of the tour was to present the facts about the role McDaniel played in a lawsuit that was filed against Remington Arms in 1998 by the McDaniel & Wells Law Firm. Delay's first event was held at Don's Weaponry in North Little Rock, a local gun shop, to emphasize how essential gun owners' rights are to Arkansans and his campaign.

DeLay explained, "One of the key issues in this race is going to be the right to bear arms. It is one of the most precious rights we have. I have been steadfast in my support of the Second Amendment having co-sponsored the concealed weapon bill, voting in favor of the ban on municipal lawsuits against gun manufacturers and voting against mandatory trigger locks. I am an NRA member and have been endorsed by the Gun Owners of America." DeLay also stated he strongly supports the adoption of "castle doctrine" legislation in Arkansas and the supported recently passed federal legislation which banned the confiscation of weapons during a natural disaster. "As attorney general I will work with our legislature for the passage of substantial laws that protect the second amendment rights of Arkansans, it will be a central part of the legislative package presented by the attorney generals office in the next session." Delay stated.

DeLay noted, "McDaniel needs to come clean with the voters of Arkansas about the role he played in one of the worst junk lawsuits ever filed in our state's history. To date, he has tried to put the lawsuit off on his father, but the facts clearly show that he played an equal, if not greater role than his father did, in handling the frivolous litigation..."

DeLay presented the media with copies of court filings that were signed by McDaniel, as well as a letter that McDaniel received from the presiding judge concerning a hearing date. DeLay explained that McDaniel received the letter from the court because he was recognized as the lead attorney in the case. DeLay also provided the press with copies of several quotes that McDaniel made publicly on behalf of the plaintiffs in the case.

DeLay went through many allegations in the lawsuit that he found most troubling for Arkansas' gun owners, hunters and sportsmen. "First, the complaint alleged that the parents of Andrew Golden, one of the shooters in the Jonesboro tragedy, created an "antisocial or dysfunctional" environment because he was given firearms and was taught how to use them."

DeLay remarked, "It is enormously disturbing that McDaniel contends that giving firearms to your child and teaching them to use them in a responsible manner is 'antisocial and dysfunctional' behavior and cause for legal liability. If that is the case then an overwhelming majority of Arkansans who hunt or shoot for sport together as a family activity would be found guilty of negligence in the eyes of my opponent."

DeLay further commented that he was very concerned about McDaniel's allegation of negligence against the owner of the guns that were stolen and used in the Jonesboro school shootings. "According to McDaniel, if you make a reasonable effort to secure your gun and it's stolen and used in a criminal act, you should be held responsible. That is flat wrong."

A legal document filed with the court showed that the owner had his guns stored in a locked basement that was broken into with a crowbar, and had the guns locked in a case with a cable running though each of the triggers and the key was hidden. The suit alleged that the owner was negligent because he failed to secure his guns in a vault and the guns were not equipped with a trigger locks. DeLay said no one he knows stores their firearms in a vault.

DeLay noted that the third allegation of negligence was made against Remington Arms and this part of the case was handled exclusively by Dustin McDaniel. The suit alleged that Remington should be held liable because the gun it made did not have a trigger lock installed when it was sold which made it "defective".

"It seems my opponent believes that every gun that does not have a trigger lock is defective. Doe's that mean as attorney general he would use the power of the office to confiscate guns that do not have trigger locks under the guise of consumer protection? McDaniel needs to answer these and other tough questions about the issues raised in his lawsuit that stomped on the constitutional rights of every gun owner in Arkansas."

DeLay concluded the press conference by asking gun owners in Arkansas to "stand up and let your voices be heard by supporting our campaign with a ten dollar ($10.00) contribution to the "Freedom Fund." The fund will be utilized in his campaign for attorney general to educate voters on his opponents record on second amendment rights. "Ten dollars is a small investment to make to assure the rights and freedoms of every gun owner in Arkansas will be protected."

All related documents are available on the website in pdf format at www.gunnerdelay.com

I know that this may be too early or not so timely to ask...but any one heard the latest on Paul Eel's replacement as voice of the Razorbacks?

TOUCHDOWN ARKANSAS!

McDaniel responds: "Gunner DeLay doe's not have a hunting license, both me and my father supported federal legislation that made these type of lawsuits againt gun manufacters illegal, I cannot make any further comments due to still pending litigation in the lawsuit....."

Since we're doing predickshuns: our Razorbacks will go 7 and 5 (sure helps to play 8 of them 12 games at home).
Probably be in the Oscar Meyer Bowl or some such.

check out the creepy video of Gunner's kid trying to shoot an Uzi on his website.

You got that right! It's a strange obsession that's way over the line. Not funny anymore.

To "Gunner versus" and "weak reponse" (you are obviously the same person as your errors are the same.)

Id DeLay actually said what you quoted, the operative words are "IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER."
I suggest to you that if Andrew Golden was taught to use firearms IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER, he would not have gunned down his classmates and teachers.

In addition, if DeLay thinks that an overwhelming majority of Arkansans hunt and shoot as a family activity, he is a TFM.

Putting a loaded weapon into the hands of a child is child abuse. And when that child kills another human being, hell, yes, the adults are responsible.

Hey, Anonymous, I'm not Drew Pitt and you can go fuck yourself, you stupid low-bred son of a bitch. It takes a real pussy to stalk someone on a blog. If I were Drew, and I knew who you were, you'd be crying to Mommy right now.

Dumbass.

DBI gets shut down at the end of this thread:

http://www.arktimes.com/blogs/arkansasblog/2006/08/beebe_the_abortion_issue.aspx#comments

You know what, Anonymous Pitt stalker? You want to settle this in person? Time and place, motherfucker, and you'll wish you'd never ever even picked up a keyboard. Time and place - just let me know.

Bring a baggy for your teeth.

I personally think McDaniel has no qualifications what-so-ever to be the AG. Plus, he is one of the cockiest pricks I have ever met.

However, he has the money to win....he bought the primary and will buy the general election.

Oh boy, what has our party come to?

Daddy McDaniel and McDaniel are lawyers. What, they gonna not take a case because of their political views? Hell, that'd disqualify about every lawyer in this country, including Delay.

I wonder how many folks Delay defended, taking their dough, and knowing they are guilty...wouldn't that be a moral outrage to such a Religous Conservative...getting a guilty person off?

Come on...these bottom feeders (old attorney joke) gotta make a living. If defending or representing a client - on purely poltical leanings is the litmus test...folks we in a lot of trouble.

What's Gunner gonna do when he's required to defend the state or and individual, knowing that "we" were wrong....stand on his moral mountian, fists clenched screaming...can't do it, it's against my political leanings?

Those who want the best email updates on the weather should subscribe to Carol Allen's weather report. It's free and it's timely. email her at carol.allen@cjrw.com to get on the list. Hot August ahead. Keep up with all the weather via Carol's daily update. Like me, you will soon depend on it.

I was brought up around guns as a child and have a healthy respect for them. I knew that if I ever so much as thought about pointing my red rider at the dog or even looking at my fathers gun rack without adult supervison, this would be followed by a swift thwack upside my head. Believe me, I now know where my gun is pointed at all times. As an adult I have spent countless hours out shooting on the field with my Dad. It's some of the best memories of my life. This is a sport that families can enjoy when regulations are strictly adhered to. My problem is seeing kids pointing their bb guns at anything and everything that moves, not to mention sling shots being fired in every direction. This is the time when a parent should be supervising. I have severely wanted to put a thwack upside those little darlings heads while their parents sit idly by watching the afternoon pass by. That is not responsible gun ownership. The child's weapon may be harmless but the lesson tought is deadly.

What's Drew Pritt got to do with Mel Gibson?
This question, and several Bloody Mary's have rendered me.....curious, at best.
Quit pickin' on my buddy Drew, will ya?

Hey, Gunner, quit using an assumed name on this blog...use your own. How in the hell could anyone but yourself quote what you said verbatim so extensively if you are not one and the same.

So much for some free pub, huh?

...and why do I feel like I'm in a bad Sci-Fi original?!?!?!

Anonymous Troll 32, you demean yourself and this blog when you use such foul language. For the sake of the children and the baby Jesus, please clean it up.

"Oh boy, what has our party come to?"

Well, why don't you attend the big Gala and find out. Of course, you'll have to be rich to attend at $1,000 a ticket. That's cheap compared to the $5,000 a person private dinner.

Well, heck. There goes the neighborhood. Since my feelings are now hurt I think I will join the pack that has been chasing Drew, whoever that is.

Odamae.....no such things in Arkansas. Back in the '50s, my county elected to the Arkansas General Assembly an illiterate preacher named Pappy Haynes. He was against nudist colonies and if elected would push legislation to run them out of the state. People didn't care that there were none in Arkansas but supported his efforts in passing legislation to ban such. He was a featured item in an LIFE MAGAZINE issue back then.

Could we please end the discussion of a certain person? And would he please stop posting using his name? We already know all there is to know about this person. We need not know anything more.

I wish there were a filter to screen out all posts mentioning a certain name!

For all you folks considering voting for a third-party or independent candidate, consider this:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060801/ap_on_el_ge/santorum_green_candidate;_ylt=Aql8FliJxoAWONKIKE0mMKys0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3OXIzMDMzBHNlYwM3MDM

In Pennsylvania, the Republicans are actually funding the Green Party candidate, attempting to save the radical wingnut Rick Santorum his Senate seat by splitting the votes of those left of center.

The Republicans understand that when people vote for the Green Party or independent left-of-center candidates, Democrats lose. For some reason, Democrats can't seem to figure that out. If you like left-wing politics, get involved with the Democrats, not some party destined to lose.

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS - Former, but not really, candidate for Lt. Governor of Arkansas and present, but not really, candidate for mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas, Andrew B.F. Pritt, both performed upon and received oral sex from his long-time partner of 2 weeks Tuesday evening. Neighbors within eyeshot of the home also report some sort of anal copulation immediately following the foreplay.

According to the manager of a local Walgreens, Pritt purchased the store's remaining stock of both regular KY Jelly and KY Warming Jelly shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Apparently, the warming jelly creates warmth as friction occurs, "which really sets his ass on fire," locals familiar with the situation said.

"I wish there were a filter to screen out all posts mentioning a certain name!"

Sorry Drew. If there were, we'd have already filtered you out of every blog you try to hog.

Sleep tight buddy.

Yes, True Blue...

...you are only recognizing two parties, though... the Greens are not spoilers, especially in Ricki "WMD Found!" Santorum's 20% negator---

Your party loyalty is commendable, but possibly short sighted. Look for the best candidate, Blue...

...and I agree...Rick Santorum is a radical wingnut...

Musta missed that.

The picture on the link is what is wrong with America.

PJ and anyone else that thinks DeLay isn't going to gain some ground with this issue, just read your newspapers in the morning, this is not Gunner DeLay by the way. I've heard that there's like 300,000 gun owners in Arkansas. Think we're in the top five for hunting license sales, can't say for that sure. The NRA has quite a large number of members in Arkansas.

The lawsuit McDaniel filed against Remington Arms was totally wacked. Mandatory trigger locks? guns being defective for not having trigger locks installed as part of the manufacturing process? the one against the old guy that had his guns locked up and stolen, he should be held personably liable? Dustin chose the wrong case, and he can't deny his involvment in the lawsuit.

Lawsuits and guns don't fly too good in a state where school is let out for the opening of the deer season. Not right at all with your everyday deer hunter or huntress, which is what I suppose you call them. Won't fly with a ton of gun owners or any kind of hunter either, and we have a ton of em' in this good ole' state of ours. I'd have to say this is score one for Gunner DeLay on the gun rights issue.

APOCALYPTO FADE DO

When the going gets tough the GOPps fondle their guns and prey on the paranoia of the working class. And not so subtly whip fears of a Hispanic plague on their white daughters. Aren't we past such tripe?

Could it be their scopes are off a notch or two? With the more than 2,500 useless, mindless, shameful deaths in Iraq of good American military people, a fair amount of them Arkies, who gives a flying fish about the poor gunmakers and the NRA cartridge fetishists? Might as well proffer a drunken millionaire spewing addled epithets about an ancient chosen people; that old chestnut will stir memories of the John Birchers AND the KKKers.

Meanwhile, as our treasury continues to be looted by the Cheney mob and oil prices soar amid a media fog that confuses even the rational observer, enabling all manner of corporate mayhem at home and abroad (and not just good American corporate greed, but European, Chinese, Russian, South American and more), the best our leaders can do is stay the course and hope to pounce when the sh** comes down around the Litani River.

It ain't shaping up too good for us regular guys, guns or not. The Razorbacks may win seven, but we're all going to the Toilet Bowl if the smoke ever clears.

Maybe some of you are following the bloggers Billmon and Steve Gilliard. If not, you might take a look at both of them, they are usually great. Tonight, Billmon, a spirited fighter for the Dems, has lost his fire for the moment. He's discouraged but he always comes back. Steve Gilliard writes this in response to Billmon's fears that even a Dem majority in both houses can't save the country now. Read it and take heart. I agree with Gilliard:

You know, if you have a good job and a nice house, you can think this way.

If you're making minimum wage, you need a Democratic Congress, if you want to be treated with stem cells, if you want to get an abortion.

It's easy to sit back and say nothing will happen to Bush, because nothing will happen to you. But if you're fighting with the VA . it f--ing matters. If your kid is in Iraq, it f--ing matters. F-- the s-- which comes with Bush, there are people who need the help, even minimal help, a Democratic Congress can provide.

A lot of nice, middle class progressives forget that the fight isn't for them. You think for one second I believe Ned Lamont knows what it's like to be working class, much less working class and black, living in a New Haven housing project?

What I know is that Joe Lieberman turned his back on those people and put his foot on their necks in so many ways I've lost count. It's their kids dying in Iraq, coming home to a f--ed up VA, not getting their benefits.

At least Lamont wants to listen and Lieberman stopped long ago.

You better remember that if you see a vast sea, there are some folks drowning and the question is whether you save them or leave them to their fate.

When those Coast Guard pilots and rescue swimmers flew over New Orleans, they could have said, sh--, too many wires, too many unknowns, let's get some boats for them. Instead, they jumped in the water and started saving people.

Which is what we are tasked to do. We don't have time to worry about Bush, there are people who need a government not at their throats. They don't need it in theory, they don't need it in some undefined future, they need it today, and if not today, tomorrow. Those Wal Mart workers need real health insurance, and the GOP isn't going to give it to them.

There are real people who need what a Democratic Congress can provide and who need it as soon as they can get it.

--- To that fine post I say, Go Gilliard. And to those who get discouraged here, who think that the Bush administration criminals will get away with destroying our country, read this every day and get to work electing Democrats, fighting Dems!

I have not been posting on this blog under an assumed name. If you knew me well enough, which apparently you don't, you'd know most Tuesday nights (as tonight) I can be found at Legends from 8:00 p.m. onward.

Seeing as how I was singing karaoke, playing pool, and generally hanging out with true friends and real people - I find it physically impossible for me to be posting at the same time.

No matter what is written, no matter what is said, theres no winning this war - except one way.

That winning strategy starts tonight, which is ignoring the trolls who attack me on here.

Peace be with you all and God help us to overcome this latest cancer that infects the blog community.

actually,

almost all of Gunner's litigation involved product liability. And he wasn't on the side of big business. Gunner has sued his fair share of companies, and plenty of those suits were dismissed. Look it up.

I didn't know Legends was a gay bar. Now I know why all of the guys in pink shirts said I was looking fine.
Ooops!

Jake da Snake,

Where yat? I want a piece of dat! The Dems ain't gonna take the House, man. The American people are too stupid to pull out of this nose-dive. This is Idiot Nation U.S.A. Republicans rule, man!

Pritt has friends?

Could we please end the discussion of a certain person? And would he please stop posting using his name? We already know all there is to know about this person. We need not know anything more.

Posted by: keep the posts about something worthwhile....PLEASE!!!

I'm sure you're talking about the name Bush. No, I refuse to stop bringing up Bush here as long as Cheney is in power.

Why can't we all just get along?

Heh. Looks like someone figured out how to sidestep your three-inch rule, Spirit. Until someone clears up the problem, you're just going to have to read all us, including those of us who go on and on with our pronouncements from on high, or low as the case may be.

This guy is Drew Pritt. If you'll make a careful Google search, you'll find that he has used the same language when making threats to others who have insulted his mother and gay buddies on this blog.

Wrong.

Coward.

Lying coward.

Anonymous, lying coward.

I am not sure why you chose to attack me, but it's clear that when faced with someone who stands up to your lies, you pee in your pants rather than back what you say.

Email me when and where you're going to stand behind your attacks on me, anonymous coward.

AnonymousCowardHater@gmail.com

You started this fight. Do you have the balls to try and finish it, or are you going to sit in Mom's basement hiding like a dog?

Is there anything lower than an anonymous lying coward? Even Bush has the balls to stand up for what he says. When you roll off your mother this morning, ask her what to do.

Hey Anon 6:12,

Next time I make a political prediction, I swear I'll leave you-know-who's name outta da mix. What a stinker that caused.
Sure would like to take you up on that bet but since I said it was a pool, you need to be nmore specific about the numbers on how they will stand after said elections.
Also, it gave me an edear!! It'd be a hoot if the Arky Timse folks would hold a Bloggers party where we all could show up wearing our name tags, buy each other some brewskis, pat the backs of those we've stabbed in this gladitorial arena, and give out awards for the best and worst of the blogging done so far.
I just don't know if they'll have enough nametags that say Anonymous.
All right, I've thrown it to the wolves. What should be the categories for our event and what should we call the awards?

Good thing these Dems won't forgive Mel Gibson, but do forgive Cindy Sheehan for calling our own army "terrorists"... good logic idiots!

Oops. I went back and read a bit more. Three paragraphs.

And I agree with folks who think the Drew Pritt stuff is getting old. That boy must really have stepping on someone's toes, someone nuttier than the rest of us.

Jake da Snake,

Stalemate! Dem/Rep numbers stay the same in both House and Senate.

Like your idea about the gathering. Someone run with this, please.

How about calling the award "The Max"?

As to categories, how about:

Most Prolific, Most Liberal, Most Conservative, Numnutz, Best Quotes on a Topic or Person, Most Profane, Best Writer, Worst Speller.....

Anything mentioning Ann Coulter, Dubya, commies, Hillcrest, Scoops, and Smiting.

So, if you're burning a bra with a flag stitched on it are you making two protests or is it just a wardrobe malfunction?

By the way....where would be a good place to have the awards party?

Drew,

You were never in the Army were you?

You joined ROTC at one of the half dozen colleges you have been in and got kicked out didn't you?

Also you speak out against the war now, but back when you though you could capitalize on it you were all for it weren't you?

Maybe I should amend to say 3" or 3 paragraphs, which ever comes first.

Or maybe I'll amend to say I won't read any anonymous posts over 3 paragraphs/inches.

The blog goes "wide" like this thread when someone pastes in a really long URL.
It would be better if the URL would wrap to multiple lines,
but maybe the software can't do that and still make it click-able.

Oops. This is going over 3 paragraphs. What shall I do...

Bill walker criticizes Parole Officer for doing their job!!!!

If it comes down to Walker and Pritt.....I can't believe I am typing this......I will vote for Drew!!!!

I can't believe Walker said that in the Demozette this morning. Critizing people for doing their job. Wow.

If it comes down to Walker and Pritt, LR will become the 5th Ward of North LIttle Rock.
