And in Washington
By now you know the Senate has passed Bush's terrorism bill, eroding still more of the sorts of liberties leaders back to George Washington held dear. Sen. Pryor voted for the bill. Sen. Lincoln, bless her, voted no, despite chop-licking Repubs ready to drag out the vilest of charges against anyone who dares stand up for our heritage of fairness and justice.
Bush needed some bullboy patriotism to wave like a bloody shirt. Because still more juicy stuff is leaking out about crooked Jack Abramoff's access to the White House. Remember when Repubs were fascinated with how many times Monica entered those portals? But of course that was about sex, important stuff, not hundreds of contacts by an influence-peddling crook with top White House officials, including 82 -- YES EIGHTY TWO -- with Karl Rove's office. Of course the lobbyists oiled the White House staff with drinks, meals and tickets to sporting events. And who knows how much legislative and administrative payback resulted. It's not a blowjob, true, but still.
PS -- We should have mentioned last night when we posted this that we were just back from a Political Animals Club talk by Tom Hamburger, the LA Times and former Arkansas Gazette reporter, who has a new book out, "One Party Country: The Republican Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century." It's a thoroughly reported book on Republicans' success at building Karl Rove's dream of a "durable majority." Hamburger's remarks were depressing. The GOP's perfection of voter mobilization, tenacity and idea-driven agenda add up to a formula that means Republicans will be hard to beat even this year, marked by disaster after disaster in Bush rule. One key element of the party's hold on power, Hamburger noted, is the unprecedented politicization of administrative policy. In this, Rove has knitted together lobbyists and administrative agencies in a mutual endeavor that produces money for the GOP, happiness for lobbyists and a government corrupt and incompetent, if not downright dangerous, at virtually every level. See: Abramoff. See Rove. See them meet.

I'm with ya seablue, I think the AT should make it a personal mission to find out what the Bush administration is holding over Mark Pryor's head to force him to vote for torture.
They must have pictures of him with a woman who isn't his wife. Or maybe they have pictures of him naked with a little boy. Or maybe snorting coke with some frat brothers. You have to think they are using some kind of blackmail to cause him to vote like a Bush neo-con Republican most of the time. Can the Arkansas Democratic Party excommunicate Senator Pryor, please?
Dig Max, dig. Find out what's making Mark run......run away from the Democratic Party that got him elected. There is no difference between him and the little weasel Tim Hutchinson he replaced. I fully expect his father, David Pryor to torpedo PBS, no doubt he's a Republican plant too.
This is a sad day for Arkansas and the Democratic Party. Is there no end to the indignities? Embarrassed to be an America and now embarrassed to be from Arkansas.

As Justice Jackson said at Nuremberg, "we must never forget that the record on which we judge these defendants today is the record on which history will judge us tomorrow. To pass these defendants a poisoned chalice is to put it to our lips as well."
Today, thanks to MARK PRYOR and his colleagues, we guzzle from the poisoned chalice.

This is a compendium of some stuff I wrote earlier today on this subject, so I apologize for that but not for its content. I think it bears repeating again:
Just today Bush made a claim for the passage of his prisoner treatment bill that borders on the ridiculous: he stated that he needs this bill so he can protect Americans. What in blue blazes does a bill about the rights and not-so-rights of treating prisoners have to do with protecting anyone in this nation? How many Americans would be gullible enough to believe there's even the remotest connection between these two issues?
If Bush thinks a bill to allow him some not-so-constitutional rights to deal with prisoners will stop a person willing to strap on a vest of high explosives and blow himself to smithereens, then he is missing several neurons in the old gray matter. It's a ridiculous thought.
The worst thing is that Bush has tricked so many of you into following his path of destruction.
Well, I'm seeing the evil and I'm hearing the evil and I intend to speak about the evil. And it's not a case of the tail wagging the dog but of the fleas trying to take control of the dog's mind, body, and soul.
When the mayor of one of the German towns near a concentration camp was forced to look at the horrors perpetrated in his countrymen's name in that evil place, he went home and committed suicide in shame at the wickedness he had seen. Some day for those of you who support this administration, your eyes will be opened and I hope it's not too late for your soul.

I've spent the last hour e-mailing every single Democrat who voted for this horrible, horrible bill to let them know that I will be on a personal vendetta to see them out of office. Tomorrow I will write letters and make phone calls.
The bill might sound A-ok, except for the little passage which gives BUSH the authority to interpret the laws any damn way he wants to.
Here's the torture-loving list:
Carper, DE
Johnson, SD
Landriew, LA
Lautenberg, NJ
Menendez, NJ
Nelson, FL
Pryor, AR
Rockefeller,, WV
Salazar, CO
Stabinow, MI
What the heck is going on? The Republicans had this sewed up anyway. A complete outrage is what this is.

...find out what the Bush administration is holding over Mark Pryor's head...
Folks, it's time for us to stop thinking that Mark Pryor is winking at/with us as he votes Republican. It's not a grand strategy to occasionally vote to the Right to balance his votes so he gets re-elected.
He votes the way he does because that's really what he's like. Nobody had to blackmail him to get him to work against New Jersey's Democratic senate nominee. Nobody threatened him to make him vote for torture. He's a damned hardliner Republican, a true Democrat In Name Only.
Given his name, he managed to fool us into thinking he was David Pryor's son.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...ain't gonna happen senator.

Man...I realize that you are in keeping with the GOP about 74% of your voting life...but ...do you really want to lose your seat in '08?
You just did...clown...clown...CLOWN!
Oh, goodness...I am feeling gas pains and spilling my damn beer all over the place...
And my cat just peed on the damn rug again...Pryor, you woe me a rug...

485 contacts between Mr. Abramoff's lobbying team and White House officials from 2001 to 2004, including 82 with Mr. Rove's office.
Before I go stick pins in my Mark Pryor doll it is important to notice the other big news of the day. 485 contacts with the White House..... and that torturing lying son of a bitch George W. Bush doesn't even know Abramoff. What a giant lie. One that is probably making Hitler smile.
Yeah, I said Hitler. It's time to forget being polite. Our country is following in the path of 1920s and 30s Germany as if they're reading from Adolph's personal play book. Only this time it's America turning Nazi...giant, rich, powerful, America.
If they were to wake up, England, France, Germany, Russia and Italy can't stop us. We can roast macacas day and night and there will be no allied forces coming to the rescue. We, the baddest bad ass in the world, unlike 30s Germany. We can't be stopped and the neo-cons in the White House know it.
Achtung America! The Fuehrer Bush will be addressing the citizens very soon. He will be bestowing Medals of Freedom around the necks of Senator Mark Pryor and his 11 torture loving Democrat co-conspirators. When the takeover is complete Fuehrer Bush will reward Mark Pryor with a group of states of his own and state of the art ovens to shut up his detractors.
Welcome to the United States of Atrocities!

I am so depressed, i never thought that Pryor would vote for this after voting against the bill this afternoon. He was really only concerned about the habeas corpus, evidently being a decent human being was not a concern to him. I am really blown away, i really had been thinking he had become a democrat again but the backing Lieberman and now this I really think he should just change parties now.

You know folks, we really need to be raising some money and working on an organization...a group to travel every time Pryor sets foot in Arkansas.
Travel. Dog him. Hound him. Follow him around like anti-groupies. Picket. Shout. Get thrown out of auditoriums.
Eventually somebody from the media, hungry for a scoop, will wander over to us with a microphone and ask why we are protesting Pryor's appearances in Arkansas.
To beat him, we've got to get attention focused on why we want to beat him, because most people won't have a clue.
Pryor thinks it's impossible to beat a sitting U.S. senator with millions in his war chest. We have to search out free microphones, free cameras, free attention. With enough hounding, maybe the public will start to ask themselves what's going on. Then we have a chance...
...yeah, I know. We'd come off as a bunch of kooks. Nobody would listen.
Depressing...

Earth to the liberals out in far orbit: Dog cuss Mark Pryor all you want. If you have your way there will be no Democratic Senator from Arkansas. The likes of Jim Holt will be what you get.
And before you get all wound up on who votes for Bush how much of the time, you may want to check out how some others voted. The member of Congress who voted against Bush more than any other House member, but wants a seat in the Senate, also voted for the bill:

But, I'm sure all y'all that never got elected to anything know better.

I try to limit my posts on the same thread (unlike idiot Anon on the Condi thread - he's up to 26 out of 96) but in this case I feel so mad, disappointed, and betrayed!
I do want to point out that one sane Republican, Chafee, RI, voted against this horrible bill, if my information is correct.
Pryor is in the garbage heap, as far as I am concerned. Blanche did the right thing this time, but maybe it was just her turn. Seems like they just trade places, as someone suggested earlier.
To hell with all of them, we need a new direction or this country is going down.
Let's see how this plays out in the headlines in other countries. It won't be pretty.

Thinking Dem always chimes in when anybody criticizes Pryor, but this guarantee that Holt is the only alternative, now, that's new.
I don't give a damn, Thinking Dem. I really really don't.
I'm a very small person. If beating Mark Pryor is all I get out of this decade, I'll rest content at night.

And you wonder where the f'n "unity" could be lying? Foolish, Thinker...just ass foolish...

Sheesh...again...you are a mole if you bring Jesus Jim and The Family Bed, too...

Keep on thinking Thinking Dem, I would rather have an admitted rightwing nut like Jim Holt as a real Republican Senator than have a Republican in sheep's clothing like Mark Pryor besmirching the D behind his name.
Trying to scare me with the threat of Republican Senators from Arkansas in the future doesn't work because we have 2 Republican Senators from Arkansas now. Do you really think there would be any difference if Tim Hutchinson had defeated Pryor back in 2002?
I hate Republicans! I hate fake Democrats much more. Mark Pryor is the David O. Dodd of 2006 Arkansas. The friend of my enemy is my enemy. Go chew on that for a while. I will not have a "Pryor commitment" on election day 2008 and my money and support will go to anyone running against Mark Pryor including any Republican that runs against him in the event no real Democrat steps up to the plate. I hope the next 2 years are torture for Mark Pryor....it will serve him right.

OK guys, look:
Whoever said we need to mobilize is exactly right. And we CAN. I'm good friends with someone who contributes to the blog in Connecticut that helped to bring Lieberman down. There has been a ton of hype about them because they made a huge difference in defeating Lieberman and helping Lamont win the Primary.
We can do this. Seriously. We have GOT to do something. Democrats everywhere are sitting on their asses, scared to move, I mean come ON. We've got Bill fired up, let's take this somewhere, let's hold Pryor responsible and start a blog to watch him like a hawk, let's protest, let's stand up to these pre-1960's idealogical democrats that are Democrat in name only and not in action!
Dear Mark:
Thank you for your contribution to crimes against humanity.
And D.P.? You can stick it too if you have anything to say to the contrary. My ancestors in colonial America DIED for rights that your idiot Neo-Con loving son trampled on.
Love,
Ashamed Democrats that voted for your sorry, pathetic, egotistical ass that is for some reason dumb enough to think Arkansas Dems are not watching how you vote.
From now on, Mark Pryor is hereby known as a Neo Con.

The key will be finding a real Democrat to run against Mark Pryor in the 2008 primary. If it's not you, think hard about someone you know that would make a great Democratic senator for Arkansas.
We have to start now if we expect a victory in 2008. The Hunt For a Real Democrat is On!

If Minnesota can elect Jesse Ventura governor, if California can elect Arnold Schwarzenegger governor, and if America can elect George Bush...wait...never mind, bad example...so if those two states can elect those knuckleheads as Chief Executives, Arkansas can elect DBI to represent us in the U.S. Senate. (I'm not saying he's a knucklehead.)
No more DINOs!
Oh, and SBIG: great idea for the pryorwatch blog. Loved the letter. There is grassroots power in the on-line world. We need to harness it the way they did in Connecticut.

As much as I think we always need a strong Military. The Military has been used as puppets and pawns by Bush and his Rove/Rummy/Cheney neocons. It's the poor kids from the poor parts of American who join the Military. It's the kids who have no money college. Now these kids are being runied for life by some fool who has fooled the America people in his rush to war.

Tom Hamburger, author of "One Party Country: The Republicans' Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century," mentioned to the Political Animals Club last night that Arkansas is unique as a state in the South that still has "two Democratic senators."
I wanted to demand, "Name one!" Max writes of Senator Lincoln's vote on this issue: "bless her." but she is just more securely entrenched than Mark Pryor. I don't think we can bless the Senator from Wal-Mart for, among other things, her unwavering support of the Bush crowd's assault on the estate tax.
