Bush fundraiser to benefit Ark. GOP
Today's edition of the NBC News blog "First Read" reports:
The White House billed this week as Bush's first round of heavy-duty campaigning, even advancing it with an unusual press release touting the uptick in his job approval rating. But most of Bush's events this week are closed to the media, starting with his appearances today on behalf of Connecticut Republicans and Ohio Sen. Mike DeWine. His events for Iowa, Arkansas, and Wisconsin Republicans on Tuesday; for Tennessee Senate nominee Bob Corker on Wednesday; and for Rep. Deborah Pryce in Ohio on Thursday are all closed. All of these events are at private homes, and under recent presidents, closing events at private homes has been SOP. But why so many events at private homes for the Campaigner-in-Chief? By comparison, the more popular Laura Bush campaigns openly this week for Republicans in top races in Ohio, New York, Iowa, Michigan.
A check with our sources revealed that Bush tomorrow will headline an event in Washington, D.C. to raise money for state Republican parties, including Arkansas's.

Beebe raises money from Barbra Streisand and other Hollywood liberals.
Asa raises his with the help of our Commander in Chief.
Which do you think Arkansans better identify with?

Give me that Streisand money, Bush's money is covered in blood. And don't tell me that bastid is coming back again so soon!
ARK. BLOG The better question for Arturo is do you want your governor financed by Funny Girl or by the K Street lobby crowd, which will be producing the big bux tomoro and expecting plenty of dividends.

hey what would be wrong with Asa getting some from Laura. She's pretty hot now, even if she is a smoker.
Of course I mean gettin some money.
Send Laura, have the woman do the man's work.

Heard that there were lotsa folks, including many prominent Arkansas African-Americans at the Asa-Michael Steele event today on Edge Hill.
A friend of mine was there and said Tyson's Archie Shaffer (Free Archie!) and many other traditional dems were there too.
Looks like the Dems are beginning to hedge their bets in the Governor's race. Where they once were so confident that Beebe would win, now they're playing both sides all of a sudden . I guess they see the writing on the wall.

Beebe also raised money via Bill Clinton.
Clinton or Bush? I'll take Clinton, thank you very much.
There's nothing wrong with Barbra, either.

Compare our esteemed C in C's private fundraising appearances this fall to the smarmy year old photo accompanying the Washington Post article about the private meetings he has with families of our fallen soldiers and how anguished he is about the toll the war is taking.
"The two sides of Bush as commander in chief can be hard to reconcile. His public persona gives little sense that he dwells on the costs of war.
. . . Yet the private Bush comes across differently in the accounts of aides, friends, relatives and military family members who have met with him, including some who do not support him, such as Halley."
Right. Administration sources explain that "[s]ending troops into harm's way, that's something that weighs on him." And they provide as proof that nearly year old photo.
So let me think about this. His current campaign appearances are private. But a year old private visit to a wounded soldier and his mother is being made public.
Ok, I've has a rough day. Someone is going to have to explain this so I can understand.

Yeah you bet Art, every Democrat in Arkansas is so concerned with being on the winning side that we're giving Asa another look.
I get all jiggy when I see Asa has pulled up to within 11 points of Beebe. Maybe if Beebe falls out of an airplane or is eaten by a wild boar, I'll march right down and vote for Asa so I can tell the boys at the bar on Fridays that I always pick winners.
Or maybe with Beebe dead, I'll just do the right thing and vote for Jim Lendall. Insiders tell me that Archie was at Edge Hill to discuss a room for Asa at the Shaffer rest home down in Charleston after he loses in November.
Asa's done for after this election and all that Bush-Cheney-Corkey's money he raised will keep him comfortable in the rest home for the rest of his life. It's good to know the rent is paid when all your earthly work is done.
