Clinton lawyer: pull ABC docudrama -- UPDATE
You've heard about the right-wing docudrama set for air on ABC to help Bush through the fall election season by blaming Bill Clinton for the 9/11 attacks.
Thanks to Talking Points Memo, we know that Bruce Lindsey, the former president's lawyer, has written ABC about the matter:
We've just obtained the full text of a blistering letter that Bill Clinton's attorney, Bruce Lindsey, has written to ABC chief Bob Iger protesting the network's decision to air the 9/11 docudrama, "The Path to 9/11." The letter demands that the network pull the miniseries unless it corrects all its errors: "The content of this drama is factually and incontrovertibly inaccurate and ABC has a duty to fully correct all errors or pull the drama entirely. It is unconscionable to mislead the American public about one of the most horrendous tragedies our country has ever known." The full text of the letter -- which was first written about in today's New York Post -- after the jump.
Kos and Eschaton have lots on the Mickey Mouse network's cartoonish politicking.
UPDATE: And here's a tidbit on another major factual boner, unrelated to Clinton, but part and parcel of the conservative slant of the show.

Comments
LMAO! (so typical of the clinton croonies) This docudrama was based on the 9/11 commission. CLINTON is to blame, although the movie does not let the Bush administration off the hook either.
ARK. BLOGThe letter makes it clear that the movie takes great liberties with the commission report.

OMG! Stop the presses! How horrid that a filmmaker might take creative license to fill in some gaps or connect invisibile dots to create a storyline that plays to his audience.
Where was the uproar from the left when Michael Moore inserted his own "facts" in Fahrenheit 911?
I have no more interest on watching this "docudrama: than I had in watching Moore's work of creative license.

Oh and I forget, which administration created all sorts of new rules to prevent any cooperation between the CIA and FBI, which hindered the FBI's ability to identify the 9/11 hijackers?
There is a nice recording from a Bill Clinton interview in which he says that he won't take Bin Laden because they're not sure how to prosecute him.
The Clinton history revisionists are hard at work again. Just like we're supposed to believe that Democrats have ever been in favor of a balanced budget.

The 9/11Commission Report plays pretty loose with the facts itself, even before ABC got a hold of it. Click the link below for a list of veteran national security experts were turned away, ignored, or censored by the 9/11 Commission, even though they had direct and relevant information related to the Commission's investigation

How about Jamie Gorelick being a commission member? She literally prevented the FBI from communicating with the CIA. That's a great way to help make us safe.
Y'all thought the 9/11 Commission was great when it was saying bad stuff about the Bush administration.
Y'all have been attacking the Bush administration for the last 5 years. Somehow, Clinton is completely innocent.

There must be a lot of truth in the movie or Mr. Clinton wouldn't have to send in his usual tired ol' Arkansas a**wipe to try to clean this up.
Mr. Clinton must be starving for more attention, otherwise, if this was so fictional, he would just make a statesmanlike disclaimer - something like "this is just cheap fiction and if you go see it you will see what I mean, it speaks for itself." And then move on.
Of course that would require a statesman. And Mr. Clinton is a politician, not a statesman.
So, instead, you get all of the offended lefties braying, clamoring and whining about what a distortion this is - Well, the docudrama producers are happily thanking you for getting their piece the publicity it needs to get viewers. I didn't know about it until I saw the comments here!
So speak up, loud and often. Get the word out so there will be lots of viewers.
Man, I think I better watch this after all. There must be some good stuff in there. When did you say it would be on?

As long as that mental midget is correctly portrayed, it's fine to cast some stones at Clinton. He wasn't perfect and the Republicans did prove he lied about a blowjob.
But if this is an attempt to shift everything to Clinton, it's laughable. King George II was asleep at the switch.

What with the liar in chief in charge since 2001, one would expect his nameless/brainless clones on this website to do a better job of fabrication.
The facts are there for all but the blind to see. Clinton did what could be done at that time to pursue OBL. The record is quite clear on that. What you GOP apologists won't accept is that Clinton did not eviscerate the Constitution trying to get at him. But your guy is doing that and much much more. He got an "intelligence telegram" on August 6, 2001 about an imminent attack -- and DID NOTHING.
ABC is a wholly owned franchise of the White House if this travesty is aired. It is another White House scheme to stay in power in Congress so investigations cannot be conducted which will reveal so much more incompetence and law breaking than we the People already know about. Shame on all of you for perpetuating the destruction of your country. You and Bush have done a far more effective job than the terrorists of making this country less than it could be. For that, I will never forgive you nor will your grandchildren.

Not one single comment made with respect to those people who died...
To misrepresent the facts for political reasons does dishonor to those who died on 9/11...
If you hate Clinton for lying about a blowjob, but still support Bush's misguided policies both foreign and domestic, then you cannot be reasoned with. You are the core...the 23% that blindly follow Bush no matter what. The 43%...yes, that's right, 43% that believe Saddam was involved in 9/11. You must be led...incapable of reason and making decisions on your own. Good little soldiers...

Forty million in production costs and 5 hours lost prime time revenue. Who is funding this and why? The so called "docudrama" claims to be based on the 9-11 com. report. We already know it is not. We already know scholastic has been infiltrated with propaganda materials provided by ABC supporting their lies and defamations of character to children in school. ABC and Disney should not be allowed to claim any affiliations with truthiness in this docudrama in relation with the 9-11 report. Nor should they be able to feed lies to children in schools.
Sure is odd how far ABC is willing to go out of their way to add dramatics to one of the most dramatic events in our lifetime. Certainly truth is stranger than fiction here.
As an aside I would suggest the facts leave Clinton and Bush with any number of failings on this topic. Bush however had plenty of immediate warnings on his watch months and days before the attacks and did nothing at all. Now go back to reading My Pet Goat in preparationfor your next fund raising event.

Prosecute terrorists?
The bombing of the Cole? The embassies?
Bomb an aspirin factory?

Cut and run? Leave the city to the warlords?
Turn away multiple chances to get bin Laden?
Way to fight terrorism, Clinton.

Mogadishu for one: Bush 4I got us in, the Pentagon wanted us out, so did State- it was a no win situation which had nothing to do with terrorism. It was a civil war [hint, sounds like Iraq today which your boy really got us into so that he can't figure his way out.]

True, Bush went pitched in to help the UN. We had the city under control until Clinton removed the Marines. "The Pentagon" and State wanted us out? Prove it. First of all, Clinton was in charge of both. Secondly, "the Pentagon" is a large organization. There's a difference between it and the leaders of DOD. So which was it? Feel free to prove it.
"Clinton ran from terrorism every chance he got. What was his response to the 93 WTC bombing?
The were caught, tried and are rotting in American prison's for life...you maroon."
Maroon? What is this, the 20s?
You're right. I said that. You think that's a good idea. It's not. All of the information we got at the grand jury was sealed, making them useless for intelligence. DOJ specifically kept CIA from interrogating them. Gorelick erected the Wall to separate FBI and CIA information. What a great idea!!! Clinton did not fight terrorism. He ignored it. I love watching y'all go crazy like this.

I have held my fire on Clinton every time you have assailed the Bush administration. Bush hasn't said anything about Clinton. Why don't you specifically respond to the facts?
"The entire Bush Administration is based solidly on LIES."
Right. And Clinton has been glossing over and covering up and ignoring his record on terrorism ever since 9/11. But, NO, he couldn't possibly have done anything wrong.

I think it will be perfect as a double feature with the Reagan mini-series cancelled by the Elephant Echo Chamber squeals and reverberations of protests three years ago.
"Executives at the CBS television network announced November 4 that they were canceling a two-part series, "The Reagans," scheduled to be broadcast November 16 and 18..."
This just continues to expose that there is no low a Republican will not stoop below to whitewash the failure of Bush 43 and his administration (Oops! Sorry, administration is a misnomer. I meant to say his political cronies).

Since the Clinton administration did such a swell job, why the need for Sandy Burglar to do the coverup at the national archives. Why did he need to make documents disappear, and possibly new ones appear?
I think its important for people to realize that there is still a threat of a terrorist attack. The Democrat policies of hiding their heads in the sand and hoping for the best just don't cut it. I think its fair to show how Democrats have put as many obstacles in the way of fighting terrorists as possible. Why the Clinton administration refused to take Osama Bin Laden when the Pakistani's offered him is beyond explanation. Bill can deny it all he wants, but unfortunately for him the interview was taped and his voice is quite clear.
Why the Clinton administration erected a wall of separation between the CIA and FBI to prevent them from working together to fight terrorism is further evidence of their incompetence.
I won't even get started on the Clinton administrations transfer of sensitive technology to the Chinese and Koreans.
It's not so much a criticism of Clinton personally, so much as it is Dumbocrats in general. I realize that Democrats are more concerned with legalizing gay marriage, raising taxes and having open borders than protecting the country from terrorists.

I find it fascinating that someone who calls themself "anonymous" would make such a fuss about Clinton, or anybody, "running from terrorists". I can only imagine that Anon is one of our brave fighting people overseas, who has, for some reason, been given unlimited use of a computer with internet access, unable to identify his/herself due to military protocol - who just wants to provide the facts and set us all straight. I refuse to belive the alternative that he/she is just some REpug mouthpiece pussy cheerleader, wearing a mask on the sidelines, living vicariously through those who are actually doing the fighting and dying, pretending he/she is just as brave, unable to remove the mask for fear that, soon, that Dictator in Chief will be so blatantly exposed for the fraud that he is that even the 30%ers will realize they have been rabidly supporting the biggest mistake of a president this country ever had. After all, what does a REpug have to be afraid of? They have all the power; all the moral superiority; all the money; and all the guns. Well, 3 out of 4 of those after November.

Joseph Goebbels is alive and well at 109 and working for ABC (Always Been Cursed) hired by Rove to put a double and triple spin on any and all information. It is the only chance the Bush administration has of escaping the electric chair.
Anyone with a brain will remember that the Bush administration quickly sealed the records of Bush 1 and lots of Clinton their first week in office. Joseph Goebbels step 1, hide the history. You'll also remember the Bush White House treated the 9-11 Commission like they were a pack of diseased Cubans recently floated in on a raft.
Why on earth would OUR government want to hide any facts connected with the worst attack on American soil in the history of our nation? What would Bush-Cheney have to hide about the run up to Osama's attack?
Joseph Goebbels step 2: Before anyone gets a chance to blame you, blame someone else as fast and hard as you can. The Bush administration was too busy fiddling with our laws behind our backs to pay any attention to the outgoing Clinton staff that warned them Osama would be their biggest danger in the near future.
Rove has obviously hired ABC to start up the smoke screen so voters will be distracted just before the election.
Joseph Goebbels step 3: blanket the air waves and newsprint so the truth won't find room to raise it's ugly head. As the Bush administration continues to fail in all directions, the only hope they have is to scream CLINTON DID IT and hope it wins back some of that magic 51%. When you're out of tricks you have to repeat the old ones over and over and over.
If America is dumb enough to buy this revisionist history we deserve the fate Bush-Cheney are delivering to our door. If ABC airs this pack of lies I expect to see the canned made for TV movie on Ronnie and Nancy Reagan shown right before or right after The Path to 9/11.
To balance out the night both there shows should be shown in the company of Corpus Christi, a movie showing Jesus and his disciples as gay men who stumbled upon a good thing, a good thing until the title character is taken seriously and hung from a cross.
To end our night of fun let's see that video of the Crocodile Hunter being killed by a sting-ray. The Revolution should start about midnight on the East Coast, 9 pm for you nuts in California. Why not make every living American mad enough to kill at the same time?
I can say one thing for sure, I'm a so glad that Lucy and Desi are dead so they don't have to see what's become of TV. Overthrow Bush now, it's our only chance!

It's time to start talking about civil war in America. The Decider has divided the country into 2 groups who will not be happy until actual combat breaks out. All sense, civility and reasoning are gone and the obvious next step is to take up arms.
The new civil war will be far worse than the original one. Not only has the weaponry become more plentiful and deadly, but the Mason-Dixon line will be the middle of every street in America. Yankees won't have to drive their Hummers south to engage the enemy, all they'll have to do is walk across their own front yard, same with us in the south.
We've become American versions of the Shiites and Sunnis, Israelis and Palestinians. Each side pouring gas on every issue to inflame the other side. If I yell black, Anonymous will scream back white. There is no hope of a better ending.
It took 50 years of name calling before the Civil War broke out in 1861. Then like now it was brought to a head by an authoritarian administration that pushed its agenda hell bent for leather. The Lincoln administration came out of the box changing the laws, ignoring those it didn't like and rounding up and imprisoning its detractors. Then like now innocent people spent 4 years in jail, charged with nothing, denied their rights as an American citizen.
620,000 Americans died between 1861 and 1865. No record was taken of the families that were destroyed because of the war. With many times the population count and with new fire power Civil War 2 will kill triple that number and make 9-11 seem like a happy time.
Since 3/4th of the world now hate us all, I'd expect to be invaded in the middle of our civil war while our attentions are on murdering each other. That will mark the end of America.
In 20 years those that survive can expect to be obedient Muslims and happy to have a job herding goats or gathering bits of firewood. But don't worry, thanks to revisionist history in a couple of generations our great grandchildren will not know America was ever the home of the brave and the land of the free. They'll have to find contentment in herding goats and keeping their prayer rug out of the rain.
Good luck to us all.

Clean up on aisle Keyhotay and bring a box of depends.
Funny how long and hard republicans had to search for a factual flaw in Faranheit 911. This movie is flawed in so many ways with only the previews in discussion.
I repeat...
The basis of the movie is on the 9-11 report. Docudrama - orama as facts and misrepresented as such.
Here is a reality check for Gopers and their image of their hero Bush Jr. What I remember about Bush when he was warned about imminent attacks. Bush was flicking off CIA briefers and sending them home with a "you've covered your ass"

On their hurried march to a Corporate Socialist America the republican party has completely disconnected itself from the reality meaning of the word truth.
Obviously they have learned from oval office experience the past six years that all that truth means anymore is a pre-meditated lie repeated often enough.
One might ask If they gave a damn like true Christians say they do why do they so zealously pursue policies so obviously counter to the best interests of ordinary and patriotic Americans?
Pardon the language but could it be that they have become the Satanic Church of Evil Bastards?

Let ABC air this "Dramatization" as long as it's labeled a work of fiction. I personally won't watch the show because I have no desire to revist that horror so soon.
No amount of finger pointing will change the outcome. Over 3,000 dead. The people responbible are the ones who planned, financed and carried out the terrorist act.
If you have children in schools I would certainly call and express my concerns about this show being used as a teaching tool.
What should be learned from the documentation of the times leading up to 9/11 is how to prevent it from happening again. Who was at fault is irrelevant to the outcome now. No one should use this disaster as a political tool.

The fact that this is political warfare at i's nastiest to try and save the biggest failure in history - GWB and the current Republican Party, something else just might happen here. In fact, if I was a betting man, it's probably being worked on right now.
Ratings are the mother's milk of broadcasting. Sure CBS is gonna get a bounce. But, one must wonder, what CNN and the other news outlets are gonna do? Are they gonna come out and blast CBS for the docu's factural errors?
If I was the programming director, I would. I'd beat that drum and try to drive down CBS's credibility...ie ratings. I'd point out every error and every sin until I buried CBS under its own stupidity. Any good progammer and marketing exec would look at this as an opportunity to make hay over CBS's precieved triumph.
Maybe CBS and Disney are fixin to get a lesson in what a progammer director's definition of Freedom of the Press really means.

If you want a full, and alarming, account of the Bush Whitehouse during the lead-up to 9/11, go here and listen to the Fresh Air interview of Richard Clark. Condi Rice ignored the Osama Bin Ladin issue, considering it to be a Clinton issue.

If you people stopped drinking the purple kool-ade you would now that Clinton is half the reason 9/11 happened. Whose administration was responsible for putting up the wall between the FBI, CIA, and NSA? Not Bush, but Clinton and Jamie Gerelich. Isn't it funny that Jamie Gerelich was on the 9/11 commission, complaining about the same policies she put in place. Who let the 1993 WTC bombing, the US embassy bombing in Kenya, the Kobar Tower bombing, and the USS Cole bombing happen and didn't do anything about it? Clinton. But my question is where you blaming Clinton back then? Somehow I doubt it. Clinton was to worried about how he would look, instead of worrying about what was best for this country. Then again Clinton was good for bombing that pharmaceutical factory in Bosnia. I think this was right after he lied about screwing his intern. What a President to be proud of. The problem with the 9/11 show is it hit too close to home for big Bill. After years a rewritting history the truth finally came out.

There's enough blame to go around for 9/11. Clinton certainly could have done a better job in preparing the nation against terrorist attacks. The Bush administration ignored an FBI agent's fervent plea that that something was going to happen with airplanes. Her office in Minnesota detained one of the people involved. Bush was too busy planning to attack Iraq and ignored terror threats to our country.
That's the facts, anons.

Yes - the truth does hurt plain and simple.
It is not quite as east as "Bush's watch - Bush's fault", which is the path most small-minded Americans (or at least wannabe Americans) take. 9/11 was almost 7 years in the making, and the opportunities to stop it were presented to CLINTON - not the Bush Administration.
In the end, all of you do-gooders out there, go ahead. Vote Democrat. Give them the House and the Senate. I am confident that after fourt years of Democratic control, and after thousands of American deaths from what will sure be another attack, Republicans will be voted back in to clean damage.
I just hope we can.

With the 5th anniversary of 9-11 coming up this Monday, let's remember that Ann Coulter, the voice of the Republican Party says the 9-11 widows are media whores who do not deserve the respect of this nation.
If we're going to switch the failure of the last 6 years from Bush's shoulders to Clinton's, why not blame the deaths of nearly 2800 people on the widows, the real culprits of 9-11. Remember them on Monday and spit. George Jesus Bush is not to blame for anything. He is a true gift from God, Cheney too. In fact they are more sinless than Jesus....it's true!
It's such a shame that after this November's elections across the country there will be a bounty on Republicans. The mean old world is just too evil to see the gentle goodness, nay divinity of the holy Trinity of Bush-Cheney-Rove.
Remember to kick a 9-11 widow this Monday and when she's down tell it's all Clinton's fault.

Arky1 - that's the Kool-Aide talking. Here's one Democrats response to your 18 points. Which demonstrates to me that you know only what you've heard (certianlly not read) about me.
1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
nope - democrats don't support on demand abortions - read our platform - rather than lapping R talking points without question.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression, and governments create prosperity.
Yup, Corporate America oppresses wages and affordable health care (Wal-Mart for example) and yes, the last 6 years of this Adminstration has created prosperity for see above - Corporate America - see record like never seen before Oil Company and Big Pharma profits.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.
That's the Kool-Aide talking again - straight for the D platform "The Democratic Party of Arkansas believes in and supports the right to bear arms as set forth in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. We promote strict enforcement of the law while ensuring the rights and responsibilities of gun ownership." Talk to Bush I about nukes in China's hands.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before federal funding.
Wrong, I'm pretty sure Micheangelo might disagree.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
Yup
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial, but being homosexual is natural.
Wrong, I'm a man and I don't want to be a women and homosexuals have been around since the beginning of time. It's not a choice.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
You can't even believe this can you?
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.
Wrong, sex education should be taught in the home, unfortunately rarely is it.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but PETA activists do.
Wrong - Arkansas has the 3rd and 4th highest number of Hunting Lic in the Country and most are D's
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.
Nope, that's you guys. See George W. Bush.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ for financial gain only.
Gibson tripled his investment and was drinking all the time. Gibson is a good Republican Christian capitalist.
12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.
Nope, both organizations have their good and bad. I disagee with many of each groups stances.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.
You can't really believe that can you? I hate taxes and ATM fees just as much as the next guy.I just know that I can't afford to build the bridge that I cross to get to work everyday and that's part of the cost of living in America.
14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E.Lee, and Thomas Edison.
Sanger and Steinem earned their place in history just like Jefferson, Lee and Edison did. You a sexist?
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.
When you walk into a room and you are of color, your are instantly judged. If you are a white Republican, you can hide behind the appearance of being normal. Quotas are there to prevent just exactly what you are implying.
16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.
Nope, this is a democracy, however the socialism of Corporate America is working just fine for those boys.
17. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag and transvestites are good and should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
Nope, don't delude the context. You want homosexual parades, you got a Constitutional right to have one. You want a manger scene at the County Courthouse - can't - Church and State.

...I realize that Democrats are more concerned with legalizing gay marriage, raising taxes and having open borders than protecting the country from terrorists.
Why of course we are. Perhaps if we invited the terrorists over for a 'sit-down' we could talk things out...or we could raise taxes and bribe em...or we could open the borders and let all the different nationalities fight it out.
Nothing in this movie could make Clinton look as bad as the current idiots in the White House who are now trying to blame Clinton for their failures. It's pathetic. Monkeyboy is pathetic.

Blue,
I think we may be paying too much attention to Arky1, encouraging him (GOTTA be a "him") to continue this scraping of the fingernails on the blackboard. He's only here to annoy people. Probably literally laughing his ass off at the rise he's getting out of folks - slapping himself on the back and high-fiveing his Hitler-youth bushbot buddies as they gather 'round the computer in his mom's basement, sharing a stolen can of dad's Pabst Blue Ribbon. Fact is, all you gotta do to hear exactly the same lame arguments he's making, is turn on the radio between 11 and 2 any week day. I quit talking back to the radio years ago. But these amateurs are just so damn...available. What's the point, really? Who's gonna switch sides because of something said on a blog? If it weren't illegal, I'd say the best thing to do would be just kill 'em all with those guns we want to outlaw. Maybe when we get our own dictator, we can get him to ask our liberal congress to change the laws to allow that - you know, like duhbyuh is doing with wiretapping and prisoner torturing.... but, like I said, it's ILLEGAL - so NOBODY try that, OK?

Maybe Baber but Max hit it on the head in terms of net value:
"The intended propaganda coup will come to be seen as another piece of B.S. from a White House distinguished primarily by its dishonesty"
So I think this fight over a fake docudrama is swell and I'm fully confident it will just give more speed to the crash of Repugs on 7 Nov. With help like this Rove had better get his wrenches out to more voting machines earlier than planned.
We note is was ok for a network to cancel a docudrama on Reagan even without the record number of lies.

Thanks, BWC and Rick, ya I know. But I'm a good Democrat and good Chrisitan and there's alway a slime chance that the prodical son's of this country just might take a long hard look in the mirror and possibly use the brain God gave them.
It continues to stun me on a daily basis how the Republican Party who champions all things Christian, has created a sea of "hardened hearts". How can you hate the poor, down trodden, immigrants...and that's what it is hate...it's blasphemy, pure and simple.
So, I guess my Christian soul cannot give up on the prodical son's, even if it's one at a time.
