Religious strife
The pope apologizes (though not enough to suit many Muslims). So what about all this? I was kind of surprised it didn't fire up anyone on Saturday's open line.

Actually, Benedict issued one of those half-assed apologies that doesn't actually say he's sorry for what he said, only that some Muslims took offense.
According to the AP:
"While Benedict expressed regret his speech caused hurt, he did not retract what he said or say he was sorry he uttered what proved to be explosive words."
Of course, the Muslims sort of undercut their own claim of being offended by murdering a nun in a hospital in Somalia.
Why don't ALL these birds just shut the hell up with this all-religion-all-the-time jibber jabber that infests the atmosphere.

In my opinion, religious wars have been responsible for more human deaths than all the famines, diseases, and natural calamities combined throughout history. I'm against murder, especially in the name of religious beliefs and land claims based on fairy tales, myths, and epistles from celestial beings.
Death and destruction seems to be the hallmark of all the monotheistic desert-born/Abrahamic tradition religions (i.e., Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). It's never going to change.

Look for it to escalate when both sides let lose their artistic weapons of media dissemination: the political caricature.
Secret Jesuit cartoonists and Islamic graffiti specialists will profane the sacred images of their opposition in overtly graphic and embarrassing situations.
I'm sure Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and a host of believers in Asskicking Jesus have said far worse than Benedict. But, alas, he's the Pope. He should've whipped out a few Latin poxes on the bloody heathens and no one would've been the wiser.
There's probably a zillion watts of Jesus radio in this country who'll gladly take up this issue. Let 'em have it. As far as I'm concerned: No cartoons, no foul.

So gald you omitted my two favorites
Ras, Animism and Bhuddism.
Regarding religion, it's my conclusion the real religion in America is sports, and like the Sunday social clubs it has 3 major components fooball, basketball, and baseball.
Regarding the god most Americans worhip it's hands down the CAR. That particular god has indeed killed more people than famines, World Wars and epidemics. There's not a church event around that could rival
Nascar in time, money and energy.

Just more proof that removing all religion from my radar screen was a good idea. I honestly don't miss it at all. Every now and then I wonder how it's going to feel to be gone for ever and ever and then I remind myself that I won't feel. I won't know. I won't care.
Of course I hate not having my family, but again, when I'm dead I won't know, I won't grieve....nothing is much better than something that hurts. I do hope at death there is a few moment there for wingnut to comprehend that they're fixin to be launched into vast nothingness. They were wrong.....hoodwinked....all that religious malarky for nothing. Surprise! Now, get on with dying.
It's ridiculous to think we're anything more than ants. Big hulking ants with opposable thumbs and morning breath. Especially the last 6 years we've been looking mighty stupid as a species. The way I see it, we're here for unknown reasons and our job is to reproduce to make sure the planet is never unlucky enough to run out of humans.
I've pretty much done my part and I'm quietly waiting for random death to occur. I'd like to see who wins the war in Iraq. How many life terms Bush and Cheney get for being war criminals. Oh, and grandchildren....I'd like to play with grandchildren. I say that remembering I gave a check to my oldest child for birth control at Walgreen's today.
Religion is too much trouble. I grew up thinking Pope John the 23rd was God's secretary or something. And being raised a Baptist I thought I was being pretty open minded. Now people are calling Benedict our first Nazi Pope. I thought Pius XII was the first Nazi Pope. See...it's just too confusing. I was just glad growing up that Baptists didn't have Popes. I figure Ronnie Floyd wishes they did.
So here's hoping that religion will just fade away naturally and Bush-Cheney will be arrested unnaturally and the world will someday be a happier place to live.

God I'm sick of people using God to justify the unjustifiable. I know they've been doing it forever...but damn I wish the nuts would find another excuse for their warmongering/carnage.
The muslims have got to get over all this sensitivity crap. Cartoons and pope-isms aren't worth getting into a dither about. But talk about a time warp...the last time the catholic church and the muslims got into a row...hmm.

What better way to control the masses than a fear of God's wrath.
"Fear" is the word for 2006.
Pagans are supposed to be uncivilized, non-believers. Beginning to think they are the most civilized. Not as many wars started by pagans.

Actually some Muslims (that we see on the media) are acting out (i.e. killing others) exactly what the Pope was referring to. They are sure not showing the world how "peaceful" they are.

The Holy Father's perceived faux pas certainly has been blown way out of proportion by the Muslim community, but it does illustrate how completely out-of-touch the Vatican is. I am not suggesting that The Holy See stoop to pandering to political correctness, but the Holy Father certainly could have been more thoughtful. Then again, he is no John Paul II.

********
Seems like it already has changed - I don't see Jews or Christians planting bombs in houses of worship or killing people that insulted their religion or refused to be converted to their religion - But read the paper - you do see this in Muslims.

Don, apparently you don't keep up with airplanes dropping bombs. Or rockets. They all use bombs against civilians and civilian targets. But they all don't have airplanes to deliver them and thus use other means.

There's the cluster bombs that become land mines, and actual land mines, many created by the US and either sold to others or used by the US.
There are people dying and being maimed from those years after they were put there, mostly poor farm families.
What is the difference between cluster bombs and mines, and the ones put out by terrorists? There are far more of the cluster bombs and mines, and they kill the poorest people that are just trying to survive.
The ones put out by the terroists tend to kill the more well-off people in the cities, so I imagine that is why so many think that is far worse. The wealthier you are, the more important you are in their eyes.
