Childish name-calling

I don't understand why Mike Beebe is drawing attention to Asa Hutchinson's new television ads by criticizing them.

It may be "shameful" to use children in a political ad, and Beebe may be so genuinely outraged that he just had to say something.

But remember the "swift boat" ads against John Kerry in 2004? That wasn't a large ad buy, but the ads got plenty of free broadcast time when they became a campaign issue, because they were continuously replayed on the news.

Hutchinson's campaign has far less money in the bank than Beebe's, but now Beebe has given Hutchinson's attack ad more attention than it otherwise would have had.

I also find the a despicable use of innocent children, who do not really
understand what they are doing. It is child abuse at its worst and
politicking at its best

Wow. What short memories Mr. Beebe has. On down in the article he tries to take credit for stopping Nick Wilson and his powergrab by "calling a meeting". Whew, if that's not leadership...but let me say this: I was there the day someone stood up on the Senate floor and started the process to not only stand up to Wilson but lead the charge against him and it wasn't Mike Beebe. It was Vic Snyder followed by Stanley Russ. Those are the two that forced Wilson to retreat down to the House of Reps. Where was Beebe? Certainly not out front and was like a lot of them down there: waiting to see which way the tide turned and then they piled on. That, as Paul Harvey would say, is the rest of the story. I saw it first hand...

I slightly disagree on your take that Beebe shouldn't respond to the A$A ad. I would submit that Kerry messed up by not immediately attacking the Swift Boaters rather than letting it go for as long as he did.

What is it though, and Republican Congressmen's use of kids? Do you suppose they learn something from Grover Norquist that we don't know?

ARKBLOG: You are correct that Kerry waited too long to respond. But that was _after_ it became a campaign issue. The difference here is that Beebe _made_ it a campaign issue.

ARK BLOG: It became a campaign issue when the ads when on the air! What has the ad company taught these chidren about political discourse?

No one should be surprised at how low A$a will go.... remember '92, the year A$a ran an ad calling Dale Bumpers a pornographer.

But I thought Asa was such a Christian man. Odd to use children to call your opponent names.
Such family values - but I forgot that Asa's brother, Tim, was having an affair before he got a divorce.

"No one should be surprised at how low A$a will go.... remember '92, the year A$a ran an ad calling Dale Bumpers a pornographer."

I'm pretty sure that wasn't Asa. Wasn't that Mike Huckabee, criticizing Sen. Bumpers for supporting the National Endowment for the Arts?

Mr Beebe has plenty of photo's on his web site with kids in his campaign t shirts.

as well as children used in all his commercials.

I wonder where the rancor from this side was a few short years ago when moveon.org featured them in their "Bush in 30 Seconds" campaign. If you'll remember an ad aptly titled "Child's Pay" won for best overall and people's choice. While I'm no Bush supporter, it seems odd we're mad about it now, when the Dem base was using it to their advantage just a short time ago...tsk tsk.

A$a will say and do anything. I'm predicting there are ads that will air in the last week that will make these look ethical.

Every family has problems somewhere - you can think of past "brothers" of presidents for well-known examples and they didn't disqualify the candidate/politician.

And if you are going to focus on this governor's race, then maybe you address the recent tragic issue that Mr. Beebe's family is unfortunately having to deal with.

Family members can make really poor decisions - So unless you can show the candidate had something to do with it, you degrade yourself by bringing it up.
