Daughter born to Halters

Shanti Halter, wife of Bill Halter, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, yesterday gave birth to Lauren Renee Halter. The baby girl weighs 8 pounds, 15 ounces and measures 20-¼ inches long.

The Halter campaign says that mother and daughter are in good health, and that Bill Halter "will return to the campaign at some point in the future."

"Shanti and I are thankful to God for giving our family such a wonderful gift," he said in a statement released by his campaign. "We would like to thank the countless people who have offered us well wishes and kept us in their prayers over the past few months.   We are truly blessed."

Let's see...8 years as Lt. Gov., 8 years as Gov., then it works out perfectly for a White House wedding around age 19.

No way, you say? Well. George W. Bush got 8 years in the job. Somebody explain that one.

Congratulations to the Halters. Hope mother and child are doing well!

I'm setting my clock now and expect to see Lauren Rene Halter on myspace in 15 years. Congratulations to the Halters!

But of course this news means Jim Holt and Jim Bob Duggars just raced home to put another bun in the their ovens. They can't stand the thought of Halter getting 1 up on them.

Does anybody else think Halter could be big-time someday? He's probably the brightest politician to come through the ranks in Arkansas since Clinton.

Well, unlike her parents, I guess since she was born in Arkansas that at least makes her an Arkansan.

Halter went to Little Rock Catholic? Do you have to be born in Arkansas or is just growing up here enough?

It helps if you at least "pretend" that you are from Arkansas before you return and spend a million plus dollars to buy a statewide office. Carpetbbagger-Bill and Stanty-Irish wife can "pretend" they are interested in ordinary Arkansans and are "real" Arksawyers. BUT, they'll have to do more than just be registered to vote here before I'll consider them from Arkansas.

Shortly after the lottery launched in September 2009, the Times reported that the lottery commission would roll out ticket vending machines in the spring. There's no sign of them yet, but some legislators hope to ban the machines, saying they make it too easy for children to buy tickets. /more/
