David Pryor to undergo heart surgery

U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor's office just announced that his father, former U.S. Sen. and Arkansas Gov. David Pryor, was treated for chest pains at UAMS last night and will undergo open heart surgery tomorrow.

"My father's doctors are prescribing the necessary treatment for a full recovery," Mark Pryor said in a statement. "It is a comfort to know that he is under the care of some of best doctors in the nation at UAMS. Since Dad's last heart episode, 14 years ago, he remains physically fit and watches his diet and exercise. He has been a model patient.  Of course, bed rest will be the most difficult aspect for him with such an active schedule.  On behalf of my mother, Barbara, and brothers, David and Scott and our families, we ask for your continued prayer, support and friendship."

Please pull through this David. We despartely need you on the board of Corp for Public Broadcasting.

I just saw Senator Pryor this weekend and he was as kind, humble and good natured as ever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you David. We'll see you back up and running soon.

This country needs more public servants from the David Pryor mold. holycow said it...kind, humble, good natured--he's all those things everytime I see him.

Best wishes, Senator. You're in good hands.

I echo the statements above. David Pryor is a fine man. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Pryor's the best. Praying, crossing fingers, thinking good thoughts.

Amen

Do any of you remember that when he had his heart attack 15 years ago, he called 911 and then went outside and sat on the curb waiting on the ambulance.

God bless you Senator!

Best wishes, hopes and prayers for a truly great man.

My prayers and thoughts are with the great David Pryor, a true public servant.

I wish former Senator Pryor well and I hope he has many more years with us. However, this does bring to mind the speculation that has been on this blog and other forums before about the prospects of Mark swiching parties and becoming a Republican when David is gone.

That thought in turn reminds me of information I learned within the past few weeks that Bill Halter told a group of Democrats in Conway County that he intended to run for the Senate in 2008 if he wins the L.G. job next month.

Mark is a Republican. But with respect to his dad and the subject of this thread, that's all I have to say about that.

Wow, can some of you not leave politics out of a discussion about David's health? Mark is just as kind and humble as his father and I have them both in my prayers.
