Huck's stamp of approval

Seth Blomeley of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette yesterday asked Gov. Mike Huckabee for his opinion of Asa Hutchinson's latest television ad, which features children attributing a series of negative characteristics to Mike Beebe. (www.nwanews.com/adg/News/170699/)

Huckabee’s former campaign finance chairman, Ron Fuller of Little Rock, called the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette to say the ad was “disgraceful” and that Huckabee never would have approved something like that.

“I was certainly surprised by his comment,” Huckabee said. “I thought the ad Asa is running is clever, and I thought it was funny and effective and saw nothing offensive about it.”

Now, before you read any further, please swallow whatever you are eating or drinking.

Huckabee said, “For someone who wants to be governor, you have to develop a little thicker skin for something as lighthearted as that.”

GULP!

What a schmuck, this lame duck named Huck!

That is funny. Strange how he has no concept of his own projection.

Looks like two sewer rats frolicking in the sewer to me.

I heard the ad before I saw it and was shocked that parents would allow their children to participate in this type of ad. Personally, I view this ad to be a form of child abuse. No one can make me believe that those children are mature enough to know what they are doing or saying. That Asa would allow this ad to run in the first place calls in to question his fitness to serve. If Huckabee really aspires to higher office, this it is very discouraging in terms of his judgement.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. So the kids may not have known what they were doing, but do any of the CANDIDATES really know what they are doing? Most likely not. It's a commercial, people. It's not the end of the world, and I don't see how it could make anyone less fit to be governor. The ad was likely thought up by some advertising company. I know I got a good laugh out of it. You can't take this stuff so seriously.

What's shocking? The GOP has always performed like children on a schoolyard in their campaigning and their rhetoric in general. Hell, it works for them. Truth be known, these kids are the masterminds behind the success of the GOP in the last six years. They didn't want to waste money on actors this time, so they just did it themselves.

Ya know....it simply a cheap way of getting attentiion. And it is so telling that we fall into the trap of arguing about the messengers instead of the stupid message.

If ASA believes what he is paying these kids to say....then just get on the ol telly and say it himself out loud. That would get some attention.

Call Beebe all the names the kids say.....in the same words...

I guess that would be the pot calling the kettle black though.

Oh hell! When Bush started cutting school lunches and college scholarships for the poor kids and medical help for poor kids and never finished funding No Child Left Behind, I knew it was just a hop and a skip to using kids in new and creative and profitable ways.

So these parents whored out their kids for the team that SwiftBushed Max Cleland, what's the big fuss? They're not my kids, I don't have to feed them.

Since the Republicans want to keep us in the 20th century or worse, why not whore out the kids. Why not bring back child labor? Why not Foley these kids? They gotta learn early that life is hard and it's not what you do in life, but what you wind up with. He with the most toys wins, ya know.

And if you're going to whore the kids for political purposes, why not actually whore them out all the way. I'm sure there are people in every city in Arkansas willing to pay big bucks to get their hands on some young stuff. Food and gas and heating and cooling and even shopping at Wal-Mart costs more and more. Why not close that gap with your kids little naked ass?

If done right, child molesting doesn't leave that many scars. Just make sure the old perv you rent your child out to follows a few rules you make plain to him as he undresses. Don't take a check, demand cash. Ask them to bathe first unless they're willing to pay extra. No butt stuff, growing bodies are not ready yet, ya know.

And don't keep them out whoring too late on a school night. Oh, and make sure the old pervs know to restrict the hickies to areas that can be covered by Buffy's school uniform. People talk, ya know.

Thanks to my wife, we have enough money we don't have to whore our kids out. I just wish this new Republican trick had been around back when we were struggling. I do worry this kind of thing will lead to a day when unwanted kids or defective kids will be used as a food additive, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I can just imagine the Botox folks coming up with a whole ad campaign based on, You Are What You Eat.

Thanks to Asa, his SwiftBush team and to Huckabee for promoting this new potential income stream for parents. If wifey dies or becomes disabled I might have to whore out the kids or by then, the grandkids to help make ends meet.

Don't you think we protect these whiny little kids too much anyway? Help a Republican, help yourself, whore out your kid today!

Thanks DBI. Great idea. But why stop at children? Let's whore out our pets too.
I'm gonna recommend to Beebe that he comes out with an ad by a talking puppy. Better yet, a talking drug-dog, saying he was abused and molested by Asa! on a raid near Mena. Now, ordinarily, this wouldn't phase the typical voter, but the fact that this will be a MALE dog molested by Asa! oughtta do the trick.

Soylent Green is people!!!!

Since you can't talk about or challenge the text of the ad, you have to pick on the parents of the children for letting them participate.

I guess the Democrat value is Children should be seen, not heard.

I guess the Republican value is Chlldren Should Be Prostituted.

How does one go from talking about using children in a political commercial to talk about using them as part of a sex ring to make money for the parents. I think this goes a long way to prove the immaturity of the Democrats. And to the folks that say "why doesn't Asa! just say the things himself?" He does. Every stump speech he gives. His people just finally found a way to get the issues a little more attention. And we Asa! supporters are proud of people like you who make our donated dollars go a lot farther. Every time this is discussed, people go to YouTube or somewhere else to see the ad, and that just stretches our money. So thanks Mike? supporters for your contributions to the Asa campaign.

As we learned in the PedoFoleya case, the GOP likes 'em young.

I agree that we shouldn't use innocent kids who don't know what they are talking about in a role on t.v.

That's why, if Asa wins, I hope none of those offended lobbyists who will then be unemployed won't use Monster.com to find new jobs. Since it was Monster who ran the ad last year that this is modeled after.

I also hope we will get all of those child actors off of t.v. because they are probably used for comedy and drama in scenes that they don't understand.

Both major party campaigns are a joke to me, so this latest wrinkle is par for the course. Children are "used" to sell bad ideas everyday - case in point being any fast food commercial.

The political ad makes me roll my eyes, yes, but so does Beebe's ad about "helping the little guy." Mike sure helped Rod and Jim not have a chance to debate him in a public format. He also ensured that every "little guy" in Arkansas would not hear the gubernatorial candidates bat their individual ideas around for the benefit of voters.

There's so much to be incensed about this election year, it's tough to know where to start...

Re: The ad using children to sling mud, since Asa doesn't have the courage to be seen doing it.

Because of Huckabee's comment, "For someone who wants to be governor, you have to develop a little thicker skin for something as lighthearted as that."

My nickname for Huckabee just graduated from the "Rector of Arkansas" to the "Rectum of Arkansas." Wear it in good health, Governor.

This is a commercial. The children are actors. Actors in commercials don't have to believe in the product they advertise. Otherwise, there would be very few commercials.

Mr. Beebe is probably upset because he didn't think of it first.

Nothing that comes out of the A$A camp surprises me...not this commercial, not the $taffer$ that troll these threads...nothing...

Maybe you A$A supports and $taffer$ don't find anything offensive with using young children in a negative campaign ad, but I find it in extremely poor taste...

Then again, it has been pointed out that the GOP likes 'em young...

How does one go from talking about using children in a political commercial to talk about using them as part of a sex ring to make money for the parents.

The point is using innocent children to satisfy Republican desires, whether that be sex or political gain or simply money.

You may call that acceptable but I call that prostitution.

How many babies has Mike Beebe kissed?

I believe the use of children is a great use of symbolism to remind voters of the Nick Wilson scandal and the theft of money from children's programs, and Mike Beebe's relationship with Nick Wilson. Mike Beebe allowed Nick Wilson to quit on his own timetable. The ad is effective because it reminds people of the danger of having Democrats in charge of all 3 branches of state government. It would be far better to have either Asa Hutchinson or Jim "ZZ-top" Lendall elected as governor.

Given the vehement protests of Democrats, the ad must be pretty darned effective.

The $taffer$ are starting to feel the heat...

Looking bleak for them, indeed...

Sorry, Severus...don't know how many babies Beebe has kisssed...probably a bunch...I see our "stay the course...er...changing tactics" President doing it all the time...

As far as Nick Wilson is concerned...zzz...

As far as Dems controlling state government...well, I guess you are drawing on the Repubs controlling all three branches of Federal gov't?

How come nobody is upset about the kids Beebe had in his commercial when tlaking about education. Sure they didn't say anything but they were still part of the message. If we are going to beat up on someone about using kids beat up on everyone using kids. While we are at it. I think the little boy in the Unique Furniture of Jacksonville should be taken off the commercial too, even though he is cute, I am certain he doesn't know that much about furniture.
Face the facts, it is a clever commercial that gets attention and that is it.

Well if the outrage is all about kids in commercials....

then the outrage should be to remove the Stamp Out Smoking Commercials featuring children.....
or the Tiger Woods Commercials for The First Tee...or the Ads for the latest toy...or the State Fair....or the latest Church...or next government lead tax increase proposal...on and on and on...

Bottom line, change the ad to High School Seniors or incoming College Freshmen and the content of the Ad is still a bulls eye of who Beebe is/was/is again.

R4L

How many of the ads you are refering to involve negativity and mudslinging?

Please point out the negative or incorrect statements in the ASA ad?

Finally talking about the content

Please point out the negative or incorrect statements in the ASA ad?

"Face the facts, it is a clever commercial that gets attention and that is it."

Face the facts, this commercial just lost Asa 13 of his 126 votes. He'll be lucky if he can get a job in China by the time the votes are counted. Landslide Beebe is right around the corner.

Bet Asa's SwiftBush team is out dragging old people out of nursing homes right this minute. Next it will be the hip hop Granny saying Asa's got her 411! forshizzle!

Your all mad a a child who wants to grow up and be a...

Politician
Waffler
Back Slapper
Flip Flopper
Change their Mind and Change again
Take a Poll before making a decision
Twist their words
Raise taxes when they want
Tell one group one thing and something else to another
Take both sides of every issue
Campaign during work

Dont' you want kids to have goals just like Mike Beebe?

Or are you being negative and slinging mud by saying no kid should ever want to be like Mike Beebe?

O.K.... first let's address the Foley thing.....

Since when was 16, 17, or 18 considered a child? If that is pedophilia then there are a lot of college and high school students in trouble. The legal age of consent is 18 in only 5 states (New York and California are two of them)> Most of the others it is 16, even here in Arkansas... with no exceptions.

With that said what Foley did was Creepy, Gross, and completely unethical....and he should have been kicked out of the House and Party sooner.

As a more traditional Republican I have no issue with Gay participation in my party or in government. But Foley was wrong...and I can clean my own house...so Dems form a line behind me....

Now to the ad.... Beebe's camp is just mad they did not think of it first......

The ad is a long way from exploiting children...and I have seen worse (far worse) in past elections all over the country from both sides.

There are plenty of ads for goods and services that are far more exploitive, that I have issues with. If you are screaming about the ASA campaign ad you should be explosive about the other exploitive ads.......

What this really comes down to is that there is an emotional element to the reaction.... some hate their opposition so much that it really doesn't matter ... the opponent could save an old lady from a fire and they will scream hate.....

If anyone would know what it takes to be a thin-skinned governor, it's Mike Huckabee.

I don't blame the Huckster. He's half-heartedly campaigning for a guy he hates to cement his own legacy for his presidential run. It's lame, but understandable.

Now I'm upset 'cause I said that first. But that's OK 'cause you're still right. . .

LOL

"This is a commercial. The children are actors. Actors in commercials don't have to believe in the product they advertise. Otherwise, there would be very few commercials."

This a Congress. The pages are actors.
Actors in Congress don't have to believe in the people who use them.
Otherwise there would be very few pages.
_

Here is the problem as I see it in terms of the children in the ad. Stamp Out Smkoking, First Tee, or church commercials positively effect chidlren, this ad does not. I just left a meeting where the commercial was discussed. Of the 14 people present, all parents, only 1 did not find it explotive and in very poor taste. Every person in the meeting either has or will vote. If you go by the theory that any press is good press then I guess this it's good we were talking about it. I think a number or commercials on both sides here and across the nation are in poor taste, however I do believe that two lowest commercials prior to this election cycle came from Republicans (Swiftboats and the attacks on Max Cleland's patriotism.)
Everything in the commercial could be attributed to both canidates. It all depends on how you want to spin it. What I, as a parent, would prefer not to hear are children who do not have fully formed minds being used to attack a candiate. What "family value" does this teach children? Childeren who are in candidates commercials about education are sending a positive message. Paying childeren to say mean things about a candiate is not positvie. I would like to believe that we haven't reached the point in our history where we use children to spread a message of disrespect for an elected leader on either side. Apparently Asa has and for that I am truly sorry for him.

I've spent the evening on Google seeing if anyone knows if kids make good belts and/or cowboy boots. I figure if you skin em and dry the skins properly, a few kid skins would make a fabulous unblemished pair of boots.

Now, you wouldn't want to use kids as old as the one's Foley was porking. They'd have acne and that would look like crap on your new boots. Too young and it would take far too many per boot. I'm told in parts of Malaysia, you can get a whole kid for under 20 thousand. Now that's too rich for my blood, but for anyone in the 1%, it's just a fraction of the tax money they've saved in the Bush years and they wouldn't blink at paying for a pair of Kid boots.

I'm sad to say Google wasn't much help. There is no info on skinning and drying kid's skin. But maybe next year it will have 10 or 12 pages or would that be Pages........Asa's right....we spend all this money feeding and clothing these ungrateful kids and we're missing out on a lot of good uses they could be put to.

Dang...think how many pairs of potential boots the Duggars said goodnight to tonight! Night Jim Bob, Mary Bob, Carl Bob...........

Pssst...Michelle....call me.

This commercial just seems like an expensive way for Asa to stick his tongue out at Mike and run away chanting "nanny-nanny-boo-boo".

Wouldn't that money have been better spent feeding hungry people?

My vote is going to someone who has the guts to stand up and talk about things that really matter. Someone whose actions speak louder than words, and whose words are reflected in his actions.

Rod Bryan.

He has a commercial too. It's been running for a few weeks now, but it seems that his tactic of telling the truth isn't as interesting as the others' name-calling. I think the ending of Rod's commercial may be a bit of an exaggeration, but then again, it may not be too far off.

If you haven't seen it already, go to his website, www.rodbryan.com, and watch it. Warwick, you should post them both on here. It would make an interesting comparison.

We must demand integrity and honesty from those who want to be our leaders. These aren't qualities that come and go. You either have them or you don't. I want my state and my country to be led by people who unquestionably demonstrate these qualities on a daily basis.
