Sis boom baahhh

The Student Government Association Senate at UALR has reportedly adopted a resolution urging the administration to start a football program.

Since I co-sponsored the bill it says :

A Resolution
Student Government Association Senate
University of Arkansas at Little Rock

Date: October 4, 2006

Resolution Title: UALR Football

Introduced By: Drew Pritt , Hassan Rayaz, Sloan Scroggin

Senate Resolution: Football Program

Action Taken: Passed
(Senate)

WHEREAS
Students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have often voiced a desire for their university to have football team, because football creates an environment of excitement, increases a community's interest in the university.

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED
That SGA supports the creation of a football team and will 1.) Ask the Administration to create a committee comprised of 4 Students (two who are currently athletes), 2 Faculty, 1 Administration, 1 Alumni, and 1 appointed from the Community of Little Rock by the next Mayor of Little Rock. 2.) That this Committee will meet, comprise, and report back to the Administration and SGA with a viable timeline to bring a football program to UALR 3.) That a petition of current UALR Students be presented to the Administration, Faculty Senate, SGA, and the Athletic Department 4.) The SGA always encourages the administration and Athletic Department to explore the possibility of establishing a football program.

Oh boy just what we need...another resource-draining football team at another state university.

Great idea! Now if Lord Broyles will consent to playing an in-state team the Hogs will have some Trojans they should be able to whup. . .

As an alum and supporter I think a football program would be a huge mistake. I find it hard to believe the student body would support a football team any more than they do the basketball team. And they just do not attend the BB games.

UA's Dick could transfer when the team is formed and see if he can carry the Trojans to victory.

Why is this important for UALR?

"Curious" to answer your question, its important to UALR for a number of reasons. UALR is moving towards a more traditional campus. The addition of a viable football program, as well as women's softball or lacrosse, to meet Title 9 requirements would help in that endeavor. It also would increase involvement on campus of the student body as well as generate a new source of revenue. Finally, it would be a new source of revenue and addition for the city of Little Rock, especially in a part of the city that desperately needs revitalization.

Its something the student body at UALR overwhelmingly desires as well.

Good one Don Key,

When I was at UALR in 70/80's there was no "community". Nearly everyone went to class - then - went somewhere else. Usually work or home. With dorms taking shape around there maybe there is a chance but who would we play?

With Mustain gone maybe we could compete with Springdale. That way we could go to Dickson Street after the game just like fans of a real football team.

But at least we could buy beer at UALR games.

Roaming,

Does the student body OVERWELMINGLY support it?

What part of the city which needs revitalizing would benefit? Are you talking about campus or at War Memorial?

Gnome, Why would the students support football when they don't support basketball? Where would the money come from to get this off the ground? You mention additional women's sports, have you been to a women's BB game?

Gosh, what can I say? Is anyone more shocked than I that "Roaming Gnome" AKA Drew Pritt wants his school, UALR, to get themselves a football program?

Of course, I'm sure that Pritt would rather it be a program of "touch" football.

A football program couldn't possibly make UALR any less lame.

Any school that elects Drew Pritt to their Student Government is just plain sad.

For those of you not well versed in TimesBlog monikers, THE ROAMING GNOME is DREW PRITT. (see co-sponsors, above)

!!!The VAST majority of students and faculty at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock DO NOTsupport such a program!!!!

Don't need it, don't want, won't abide it!

Why don't we actually try focusing on education rather sports at ONE Arkansas university?

Little Rock Community College wants a football team, huh? Isn't that cute.

Basil why do you make it some great big proclamation that Roaming Gnome is my moniker? I never have hidden my identity.

The resolution I introduced was the compilation of five SGA Senators. Yes, we did our homework and were responding to the student body. What is most laughable is all you can seem to do is attack the messenger.

Get over yourselves!

UALR football = tits on a boar
