Why be creative when you can steal

We just KNEW we'd seen something very similar to A$a!'s ad using little kids to attack Mike Beebe.

The boys over at Greasy Creek found the source of A$a!'s inspiration, and it's a six-year-old idea.

Look for yourself.

Comments

FYI: Asa's team actually got the idea from the monster.com commercial. And, yes, they do have a lot in commong - they're FUNNY and smart. You're all talkign about it aren't you? That's what I thought.

By god I knew there was a reason to wake up this morning! Look what Sam and Orval did while I was sleeping! They busted that pin-head Asa Hutchinson, busted him wide open.

Copying Ralph Nader to a T! What's next Asa? Will you be condemning the Corvair by noon today? Why be smart when you don't have it in you? Is the reason all those people snuck into the United States on your watch at Homeland Security because you got the plan from the French?

Hey Asa.....next time Beebe says something pop up and say WHERE'S THE BEEF! Or if that doesn't work just say NOW THERE YOU GO AGAIN. Or if you're really stumped say I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN, MISS LEWISINSKY!

And next time if you're going to whore out a bunch of kids at least get ya an original idea and don't copy Ralph Nader. Just what Arkansas needs, another pin-head Governor! Asa, quit digging your grave with stolen ideas. ha-ha ha ha Good work Sam!

Seems like there have been other variations on this theme - I didn't remember the Nader one. - as I recall there was a recent one that used a series of vignettes on kids talking about wanting to be stuck in a dead end job, growing up to be a yes-man, etc. - the theme being to pursue an education.

This is no big scoop. Advertisers parrot each others' themes all the time. It just shows that there isn't much new in the advertising arena.

The commercial didn't get Nader elected . . . maybe Mr. Hutchinson will have better luck with it.

How rich, how wonderful, how typical. Assa is as creative as Flipper in Chief in the White House. And plagiarizing from Ralph Nader -- shame on you Assa.
Note please the differences in the kids between the original and the stolen ad. Where did Assa get all those blonde white kids with a midwestern accent? The lone black kid says maybe two words. What, still got a problem with black folk -- a residue of your good ole college days?
Oh, I just figured Assa out; he's got the Mark Foley thing going --- likes little kids!!!
You will have lots of time to engage in your perversions when you go back to Washington to lobby in a few weeks. Bye, Bye!

NEWSFLASH!!!

Nobody, but you libs, ever saw that Nader ad until today!!!

Everyone, on the other hand, did see the monster.com ad. If I remember correctly, it aired during a Super Bowl a few years back.

P.S. I don't hear any of you claiming that Nader or monster.com exploited any children while filming those commercials.

55 years ago, my art teacher demonstrated how the most successful advertising campaigns were based on three topics -- Sex, Babies, and Puppies.

It hasn't changed.

What's next from Asa's ad team?

Asa! Apply directly to the forehead!

Asa! Apply directly to the forehead!

Asa! Apply directly to the forehead!

Okay Anon 9:27 and all others of the like, these two ads may be similar in design, but they aren't saying the same thing.

The Nader ad is more generalized, making statements about the government and politiicans that most of us, on either side of the aisle, have uttered at one time or another. There is no direct attack here.

The A$a! ad is going directly after a single person. Plus, the scripts don't even compare: "waffle" vs. "disillusioned?" Please. The A$a! ad exploits the cute factor far more than the Nader Ad.

The things those kids were saying 6 years ago are still true today, and are still the same thing that my generation (the millenials) are saying now. Our opinion and outlook has not changed.

Conversely, kids of the age range in A$a!'s commercial may have the capacity to consider broad topics, like being listened to or cared about, but they aren't politically savvy enough to be making accusations about individuals. They're not old enough or educated enough to form opinions beyond what their parents tell them.

This is just child exploitation for political gain. The commercial could have been done differently to avoid that, but the hacks over at the PR dept. in the A$a! campaign apparently were too busy basking in their glorious mockery of Beebe to consider the image they were creating.

Yes, we're all talking about the ad. But I haven't heard many people saying anything good.

A classmate pointed out something interesting yesterday: If you were just passing through Arkansas and saw this ad, you would probably think A$a!'s campaign was on it's last leg. Now the Nader ad is revealed, created by a campaign that arguably didn't have a leg to stand on. Does a parallel exist? Both read as last-ditch attempts to get some swing voters, IMO.

I didn't see the Monster.com ad. I didn't see the Nader ad before today either. Either way, the A$a! ad is out there now and many of us are having a good chuckle.

Everything said about Beebe in the commercial is true. I haven't heard one statement disputed.

So, kids are savvy enough to make the statements in the Nader ad, but not in the Beebe ad, because the Beebe ad is about one person. The Nader ad was only about 2 people.

I think you're slightly funnier than the ad itself.

Spin away, Asa supporters. The commercial just doesn't pass the smell test. Yesterday I watched our 14-year-old, who is one smart cookie, see the ad and react as if the smelled a little cat poopy on the bottom of her shoe. Her eyebrows raised higher and higher as she watched and she turned to me with that wonderfully expressive teenaged look of pure scorn for what she had just seen. "Oh, way to go, Assa," she commented. "like THAT'S going to go over."

Poor taste A$a using kids to dog Beebe. A new Republican low. Why do the repigs always use kids? Are Republicons obsessed with little kids?

I'd like to see an A$a ad where the kids talk about the effect of his programs.

You could have a few that go to bed hungry, others who drop out of college because their rural school didn't prepare them, some crying because Mommy got deported and no one bothered to tell them, and top it off with kids crying at Daddy's funeral after he comes back in a body bag.

I do not believe in abortion, but it is probably better not to be born than to be born into the future A$a and his ilk are busy creating.

Here's the URL for the Monster.com ad:

I haven't seen it since Super Bowl week--it's still pretty funny...
