Dueling news conferences
Be there. State Capitol. 2 p.m. Thursday
In the conference room: The Huckster beholding his wonderfulness as his official portrait is unveiled, where it will soon take the place of Jim Guy Tucker's smiling face.
On the steps: Mike Beebe, talking about the days to come and perhaps announcing a transition team.

Comments
Does Beebe have the power to do as he pleases regarding positioning of official portraits, or does the Secretary of State rule there?
Now, I'm not saying Huckabee's new portrait should be hung in the capitol men's room, but every option should be on the table.

Yes I know. I well remember admiring Bumpers and Clinton up there on different visits I've made to the conference room in past years.
But Don Keyhotay told us yesterday that, at least on the national level, long-standing traditions aren't so important in America, that the original intent of these guys who lived here 200+ years ago are more important.
So, since it's not written in the state constitution, I was just thinking we could start something new (in Huck's honor, if you will).

Huck has had Jim Guy looking down on him for 10 years in the conference room. Beebe will have Huck. I guess it keeps you humble, kind of like the slave riding behind the Roman general in the chariot.
More importantly: Is this a portrait of fat Huck or Thin Huck?

All the names of the nature centers, lake, and the hall at the governor's mansion need to be changed ASAP.

Is there any possible way to actually hang Mike Huckabee over the mantel for the next 4 years. With his reduced weight we won't need such a big nail.
And is it true that Huckabee's last act will be to name the Arkansas Capitol Building the Mike & Janet Huckabee Arkansas Capitol Building? Gee.....can he really do that? Someone stop him, I really don't want to have to call my penis Mike......stop him.....stop the madness!

My tangled thought responding to your wandering comment was - "Tradition" is a little vague for a constitutional issue - If tradition was the sole precedent, then neither women nor blacks would have the right to an equal vote.
As you say, this hanging does not appear to be a constitutional issue, so, the heck with tradition, lets try something new! How about over the refrigerator?

Seems like Jim Argue has earned the right to that portrait spot. I believe he's been the governor 'bout near as much as Huck this last term. Huck being the "Governor Who Isn't There" so much of the time!
