Handicapping 2008

Charlie Cook, a respected national analyst, does some early forecasting on the race for the Republican presidential nomination, giving most of his attention to Giuliani, McCain and Romney.

He mentions a poll he's done:

In a Nov. 9-12 Cook Political Report/RT Strategies nationwide survey of 626 Republican voters and independents who lean toward the GOP, Giuliani had a statistically insignificant two-point lead over Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., 27 percent to 25 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., was in third place with 10 percent and outgoing Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) was in fourth, with 9 percent. Rounding out the field, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R) had 4 percent; GOP governors George Pataki and Mike Huckabee of New York and Arkansas, respectively, each had 2 percent; Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., and Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., both had 1 percent; and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., and Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., each garnered less than 1 percent. Nineteen percent were undecided.

Giuliani's support has ranged between 24 and 32 percent in previous Cook Political Report/RT Strategies polls. McCain has fluctuated between 20 and 29 percent and Gingrich has polled between 6 and 12 percent. Romney started off around 3 percent and has ranged from 5 to 9 percent in more recent polling.

Has the long Right turn ended? Can you imagine Southern religio-wingnuts given a choice of pro-abortion Gianliani
and pro-abortion Hillary? Talk about a stay-at-home election in Red states.

Whew! You need to hold your nose just to read this list! Losers, crooks, liars.......I have to say Huckabee just might be the best guy in this group of mutants....imagine that!

Here is my prediction. Next year the water will get so hot that Cheney will fake another heart attack and have to quit the Office of Vice President and his real job of being the real President. Straightshooting John McCain will take his place and then Bush will pardon Cheney from all previous wrong-doing, because he's so sick and all.

A few months after that a silver bullet will turn up and Bush will step down just ahead of the Impeachment Posse. President Straightshooter will then turn around and hand a whopper of a pardon to Herr Bush, so big it will excuse him for coke sniffing and drunk driving and even cover Jenna and Not-Jenna.

President McCain will then be in position to be a front runner in the 2008 election. It's the only way to save ass and give the Republicans a shot in 2008. Huckabee will be named US Ambassador to Somalia and never be heard from again. Write this down and put it in your hat and we'll take another look January 1st, 2008.

A shift by the GOP to Giuliani and/or McCain on a ticket actually might help them stay in power. I like the way the GOP is heading, either of these guys would've done a much better job the last 6 years.
