Jesse Jackson in town -- the after party

From a community correspondent:

After speaking today at the Statehouse Convention Center, Jesse Jackson went back to the Clinton School of Public Service for lunch where he visited with Little Rock Niner Minnijean Brown Trickey and her daughter, Spirit; City Manager Bruce Moore and his wife, Lena; Odies Wilson of the city of Little Rock and Little Rock School Board President Dr. Katherine Mitchell.  Virgil Miller, co-chairman of the Little Rock Central High 50th anniversary commission, briefed Rev. Jackson on the plans for September 2007 and invited him to attend.  Students from Helena who happened to be touring the Clinton library and the Clinton school got a special treat to meet, greet and have photos made with him.

heh. If there's anyone more hated by the wingnuts than Bill or Hillary, it's Jesse Jackson.

What was Rev Jackson's topic? Key points? We in Chicken north quadrant of state are usualy starved when a notalbe like Jesse comes to Central Arkansas.

If, as I expect, your radio doesn't pick up KUAR, Lwood, their state and local news is interspersed with NPR's "All Things Considered" between 4 and 6 most weekdays (between 4 and 5 on Saturdays and Sundays) and at other times during their daily schedule, and the 24/7 broadcast is available on your puter at kuar.org.

I heard excerpts of Jesse's talk this afternoon. Sadly, I can't quote you a single word, but he didn't disappoint. He ain't MLKJr, but we still need him and voices like his.

Speaking on behalf of others that I may have conversed with (including "wingnuts" or whatever term you prefer, as well as regular people) I don't know anyone that hates Jesse Jackson, they just view him as a race-baiting shill lacking the speaking skills or charisma of Al Sharpton. Terms like, dull, pompous, pretentious, fake, publicity hound, camera hog come to mind. Kind of like the opposite spectrum equivalent of an extreme right-wing televangelist. Keeping the scales balanced I guess.

You vastly overestimate Jesse Jackson's influence outside your chosen community. Ignored might be a better description for others reactions.

Then again, sometimes watching him (or listening to him) has the same attraction as driving by a carwreck- momentary, morbid curiousity, observed only in passing.

From a moderate's perspective, Jesse Jackson is irrelevant and a joke. Apparently he doesn't know that yet.

Well this is great so long as they don't
"hate" him.

How could anyone possibly hate a dull, pompous, pretentious, fake, publicity hound, camera hog, race-baiting shill lacking the speaking skills or charisma of Al Sharpton?

He might be the equivalent of someone's eccentric but loveable "Uncle Buck".

Q: How does a republican commit suicide?
A: He gathers his hate into a pile and jumps off.

Where is anonymous to throw a fit because Don is calling Jesse a buck? Oh where is the justice? Where is the level playing field? Why did one little sexual mistake cost poor ole Jesse so much?

I am going to pretend to the hilt that I am grievously offended by Don using the word buck in connection with a black gentleman....oh for shame!
