Jobs v. lingerie

Talk about burying the lead. Check the news release on the jump about a coming prime-time special on Channel 11 in which the Arkansas Department of Economic Development will present  -- at 9 p.m. Dec. 5 -- a report on the state's needs for high-tech and knowledge-based jobs.

The prime time is available because Channel 11 is again refusing to air the network offering, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (an image from the show is included for informational purposes only). Devotees of frilly underwear will have to turn to KASN 38. I'm sure most will remain riveted to the knowledge-based jobs report.

KTHV NEWS RELEASE

KTHV President and General Manager Larry Audas announced today Today’s THV and the Arkansas Department of Economic Development will partner to present a one-hour prime time television special  at 9:00PM Tuesday, December 5th.  The special focuses on the high technology and knowledge-based jobs Arkansas needs to improve and expand for future success.  The program also highlights how education is the key to our success.

“Today’s THV believes the state’s economic development is important to all Arkansans,” said Audas.  This program was nurtured by ADED and is a top notch presentation that lines up well with THV’s continuing efforts in education and community awareness.  We’re proud that Today’s THV was chosen as a partner to help move Arkansas forward by presenting this important special.”

The program, hosted by THV’s Anne Jansen, is Arkansas' Brighter Future: Education = Economic Development.  This first-of-a-kind broadcast will explore the phenomenal progress of The University of Arkansas' Genesis program, The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences' Bioventure, and Arkansas State University's Biosciences Institute.  It will also visit a Little Rock family with the dilemma of watching their kids look outside the state for their college education.  Waymack & Crew in Little Rock provided exceptional production services for the show which includes interviews with UCA Chancellor Lou Hardin and Alltel’s Scott Ford.

The project was overseen by Mitch Chandler, Communications Director for ADED.  Chandler states, "We have no choice but to galvanize our efforts around the state to educate Arkansans into a better position economically.  This program explores ways to make our lives better, and what we as parents can do to better prepare our children to compete globally.  We'll show you Arkansans who are winning the technology race right here at home."

The program will pre-empt the CBS Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  CBS has made arrangements to air Victoria’s Secret on Little Rock’s KASN television, channel 38 (Comcast 7), in the same time period.

Knowledge-based job = internet-based job = porn-available job.

Designing those garter belts and hose is knowledge work, too.

How does someone win the technology race? It took about 2 centuries for the industrial revolution to unfold from textile mills in the UK to putting a man on the moon. We've been in the knowledge age for maybe 20. The race hasn't really even started yet.

Once again, it's that bible-thumpin' hypocritical General Manager Larry AudASS' decision to censor the airwaves and protect those of us from such pornography. I refer to it as censorship because Mr AudASS obviously doesn't care about ratings because that show is consistently a winner on almost every CBS affiliate. He needs to quit trying to impose his personal tastes on the viewers! It's simple, Mr. AudASS, if people don't want to watch, they can change the channel but the reality of it is that most do watch IF given the opportunity.

According to an article I read there is now a record price for corn because of ethanol production. When I went home for Thanksgiving my father was telling me that farmers have been hearing that oil companies are buying up all the corn they can get. They have decided to either prevent ethanol, or they are going to lead the way. Either way it has farmers nervous about feed prices as winter approaches. If you see corn prices suddenly going down, then you know the oil companies have decided to kill ethanol. The link to the article is below(it only talks about the rising costs of corn and that it is linked to ethanol).

Porn sites grew in direct parallel to computer science degrees. Porn is still the largest money maker on the web.
Since money is the god we worship why not offer more porn production training. It keeps the boys at home and out of jail.

I'm a big believer that it doesn't matter where you get your appetite as long as you eat at home.

Poll: Which local network affiliate employee would you most like to see participate in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?

Jancey Sheets. If you're depending on Victoria Secret shows to see women in their undies, you have got a lousy cable or satellite package.

Not sure if I saw this show or not . . .maybe if you could post a few more photos it would jog my memory . . .

I'm telling you all if not for sex and porn, art and artists would have never progressed past circus act status. The written word took off the minute men figured out naughty words excited women too.

George Eastman would have died broke under a bridge. Thomas Edison would have tanked with his idea of building all concrete houses. Polaroid would be known as a condition afflicting the southern regions of those living in the extreme north.

Come on, the CB radio wasn't about cops. Highway rest stops aren't about peeing. 12 people in the world would own video cameras and GM and Bill Halter wouldn't get rich with Pay Per View if not for good looking women.

Not that there is anything remotely pornographic about Victoria's Secret models. This John Ashcroft of LR television is either uncomfortable with the female body or worse, thinks everyone in LR thinks of Jesus bleeding from the rugged old cross every time they see breasts.

This is the same kind of stupid medieval crap that keeps Arkansas in 49th. Studies have shown that communities that are artsy-fartsy, have a higher level of gays and ethnic groups and promotes live and let live also are areas of higher per-capita income.

San Francisco has some great weather, but lots of very talented people flock there to live and work because they don't have to put up with small minds like those at KTHV.

Since I live in Fort Baptist, this ain't no skin off my nose, plus I wore myself out with Charlie's Angels years ago. Plus I have all these Internet tubes, Vickies and Hooter Girls are a fingertip away for us space age George Jetsons.

I just hate to live in a backward society where gorgeous perfect female breasts and legs scare grown men in suits. I mean teats have been with us since the old Virgin Mary, your mother probably had a couple of em.

And this same lack of thinking has given us George W. Bush, no doubt the biggest boob in US history. Let us please evolve!

It is interesting how porn and other vices have driven society forward. The internet would be tiny without it. It's the impetus behind video on your cell phone.

Sex will be the driving force behind development of true virtual reality, but I don't want to picture the mechanism.

Beth Ward

I'm all for it, if gorgeous men with perfect bodies are also allowed to be seen. That doesn't happen nearly as often. They usually have far more clothing on than the women. Ever noticed that?

I'm all for equality! Bring back Baywatch, where it was equal opportunity body gazing!

Or Craig O'Neill

I'm assuming it doesn't matter if we've already seen them naked.

Robyn Richardson.

Carolyn Long!

You know how they make "man rules"? I think we should start setting "Max rules" around here. Rule number ONE should be that pictures similar to this one should be posted daily. It just brings a more ... cheerful ... atmosphere to the place.

Dammit, Max, where did you find my picture?

Hey Blue...wanna be my guest to the big Huckabuck party next month? I'm sure my wife will be otherwise engaged that night. Boy...I hate to go alone......

Just one of many errors I've

can't you have something like

I am having the same problem, Bold.

The 64 cent question is: Will KASN air the VS show in HDTV? BTW, the old UPN network (then owned by Viacom/CBS) reaired (a week later) the VS show last year in HDTV.

None--the oil companies couldn't kill ethanol even if they wanted to. It's been around for 25 years, and national production is up to five billion gallons, using the starch from two billion bushels of corn. The oil companies are in fact acquiring ethanol, because they're required to use it. Under the 2005 Energy Bill, US consumption of fuels from renewable sources is mandated to a minimum of 7.5 billion gallons by 2012. Plants have been springing up all over the country; there are now more than 100, and many of the newer ones are owned by the farmers themselves. The biggest worry, to my mind, is that the 7.5 billion gallon requirement will be viewed by the industry as a cap, and plants that go up after that threshold has been met may find it difficult to sell their product. Corn prices are going up not just because of ethanol--we're going to grow nearly 11 billion bushels this year; it's because of ethanol and everybody else, like exports (China, formerly a major competitor, no longer has enough corn to export) and domestic livestock feed (big hog confinements have been springing up all over the Midwest). The solution is to grow more corn, and less of other crops; or, to release some of the 36 million acres in the Conservation Reserve, which pays farmers to idle highly erosive cropland. So far, even $3.50 corn hasn't been enough to persuade farmers to give up those annual payments.
