Mark your calendar for Friday

You'll find full details in our print edition, but we thought we'd issue a reminder of a concert worth attending Friday night. To mark World AIDS Day and the season, Philander Smith College is sponsoring a concert headlined by jazz/blues legend Della Reese and Lawrence Hamilton, the Broadway star who heads Philander's choral program. They'll be joined by a number of school choirs, including the famous Philander Smith choir.

The time is 7 p.m. Place: Robinson Music Hall. Tickets are $30 to $50.

The opening song, Christmas Child, was written by Vic Snyder!

This concert is actually a benefit for Philander Smith.

Too bad this wasn't scheduled for last Friday, the bigg shopping day also known as Black Friday.

I think it's sold out, but another great concert will be Sunday night at the Walton Arts Center, Fayetteville: the Dave Brubeck Quartet followed by the Ramsey Lewis Trio. (Dave's 86th birthday is Dec 6--he's still touring!)

This concert is actually a benefit for Philander Smith.

You're right about that very little of the funds raised will be used in the HIV/AIDS community or benefit people living with HIV in Arkansas. Might get 2 seconds of AIDS awareness, but will impact the lives of very few human beings with the disease. In Arkansas .you can bet 70 % of the funds raised will never be spent in the community for care .medical support or medications to fight this killer disease.
