Survey says ...
A collective “I told you so” will ripple through the world of Bush-bashers once news of Christopher Lohse’s study gets out. Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.
Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

Yahoooo....every day brings a new smile to my face. If they hadn't been killing our kids in Iraq like mad the last 2 months, I'd really be happy. 2884 for you all keeping count.
I excuse old people from this mental illness Bush-loving stuff. I know lots of them and it comes down to them being scared to start with. It's caused by being from an era when you respected the President because he was a man worthy of respect. Many of them have voted Republican all their lives and are too lazy or out of it to go dig around and find out the Republican Party has turned rabid.
Plus Fox News snuck up on them because they've never lived in a time when a whole network of liars lied 24-7 on your TV tube.
Those people I excuse. The rest...uh uh...they fall into several overlapping categories. Crooks, people too ignorant to know better, religious nuts fooled into believing Bush is a Christian, racists, homophobes, the incredibly selfish, the incredibly rich who get richer with Bush, and finally the mentally ill.
And compared to what future historians will say about Bush-Cheney and their loyal supporters, I'm being very very kind. Simply, the fake war for oil, Katrina, and embracing torture while rejecting habeas corpus will land Bush at the very bottom of the history barrel.
Should he manage to avoid prison, which I don't think he'll do, he is doomed to be the most hated and hunted former President we've ever had. Hit it Martha! That's a good thing!

"Our study shows that psychotic
patients prefer an authoritative leader,"
Lohse says.
********
So another conclusion would be that mentally ill people considered the Democratic leader a wienie. OK, I'll buy that.
The study was an advocacy project of sorts,
designed to register mentally ill voters
and encourage them to go to the polls,
********
It doesn't get much better than this - its gotta be a Studio 60 skit - haul the terminally confused folks to the polls to express their opinion. Yowser! Guess I shouldn't complain if this was thought out by a pseudo Republican. . .
What is the margin of error factor for a scientific (chuckle) survey of . . . 69 . . .mentally ill . . .people?

Shouldn't get more than a "C" for effort.
I mean, just quanitfying commonly known truths what use is that. He could have done the same thing over in
junkier parts of Chickendale.
"..thought out by a pseudo Republican."
Why the redundancy?

As you learn in statistics classes, you only need 30 samples to make the restuls of a test statistically significant.

My first stat class at UAF was taught by a brilliant Asian grad student who could hardly speak an understandable word of English. I dropped it just before getting an "F". Tried later with a frat-house tutor and passed, I think.
I honestly don't remember any comment from my grad student instructor that a sample as small as 69 could produce any kind of reliable restul, er result, but, hey, I'm no statistician and I couldn't understand him anyway. . .
But, since the secondary conclusion was that the Democratic leader was a wienie, I give in - it has now been statistically proven and affirmed by JD that the Democratic leader was a wienie.

I can understand how mentally ill people could see a 3-time winner of the Purple Heart as a weenie, Don.

I can also see how the mentally ill people could consider Bush NOT a weinie, since he had perfected the John Wayne swagger (who also did not go to war) and down-home accent. They wouldn't be as able to see past the smoke and mirrors.

Oh boy, Oh boy! I just love multiple choice questions. Here, Spirit- you go first:
a-Who needs an excuse to call a camera lovin' hot dog a wienie?
b-He acts like a ham but I swear he looks more like a day-old wienie missing his bun.
c-As a proud member of the test population of 69, I have no other excuse.
And the answer is . . .?

First things first. What was the question?
You call John Kerry a weenie because he loves publicity. That's okay but what makes him different from Bush there? I don't think that made the mentally ill pick Bush because they BOTH love publicity.
You call Kerry a weenie because of how he looks and acts. Fine. I think Bush's "just folks" act is even more hammy in his fake John Wayne sort of way. I'll have to let the women folk judge on who most "looks more like a day-old wienie missing his bun", whatever that means.
Sounds like a flaccid reference to penises, but I may misread you.
Spin it as you will, Don, the study stands until you produce a better one. The mentally ill prefer Bush for some reason. You say it's because Kerry seems false. I say it's because they saw Bush as one of their own.

Sorry - in my enthusiasm I thought you understood that you already posed the question - what is my (Don Keyhotay, Pursuer of Righteous Causes) excuse? Then, I thought you might like the opportunity to propose my most appropriate answer - pick a, b or c. Never mind.
Never thought about the penis thing but I guess we are oriented differently.
BTW, I didn't say Kerry "seems false" although that may be your perception.
But, you gotta admit, he loved posing for his personal promotional newsreel camera and he, like pretty much every politician, becomes a hammy actor when the camera is on him (maybe that was why Reagan was so well liked - he had the acting experience).
I'm not having to spin anything here - I think the study is pretty darn accurate for such a small sample. The Lohse study said mentally ill people want an authoritative leader. They perceived Mr. Bush as an authoritative leader. They did not perceive Mr. Kerry as one (aka "wienie"). Darned if they didn't get that one right!
In the next group therapy session, our topic will be "How to know where your perceived authoritative leader is leading you." This will be a free session for guests and mentally ill Republicans.

Does this mean my sis-in-law is the nutcake and I'm the sane one?
Both of us have strong (and near violently opposing) opinions. Generally, we shrug and think the other one is nuts.
Now I'm vindicated. Now I can say "You're crazy! Get some help!" with feeling when she tells me Georgie Boy created the earth in six days. Now I can . . .
Oh, heck, it's easier to shrug and say "Uh, huh."

"Authoritative" is one thing, "leader" is another. Giving orders doesn't necessarily mean anyone will follow, especially if they are listening.

Yes, that dawned on me 1/2 second after I clicked Post, but it was already gone.
"Never thought about the
penis thing..."
That one has an interesting history. My spell checker didn't like your word "wienie", offering instead "weenie". But I do know that wiener is OK, so why not your version. So I went investigating. At
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wienie
I found that wienie is slang for weenie.
So I clicked on the word weenie at wikipedia and it took me to this page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weenie
which is their penis page!! So, according to wikipedia, which is slowly supplanting the Bible as the last word, you called Kerry a penis.

You called him a ham, which is defined as "a performer who overacts or exaggerates." To me it was no big jump to condense that definition down to "false".
Anyway, defending Kerry is not were I want to be! Moving on...
