The gap closes -- UPDATE

Polls show the national races tightening as the Republican base "comes home."  It will be a long night tomorrow. And I hope not a replay of 2004.

UPDATE: A fairly academic discussion of polling and influencing factors on Daily Kos gives some hope for continued optimism.

Yeah, I don't know what to think. I'll hear a report of Republicans saying they're voting Democrat or staying home because the people in control aren't real Republicans.

Then I hear a report saying the far right are disgusted with some Republicans but still consider the Democrats much worse, so they're motivated to go vote to avoid a takeover by evil Democrats.

Really, the biggest problem turns out to be, not love of Republicans, but hate of Democrats. The Republicans have done a great job of painting Democrats as sitting at the right hand of Satan.

Thinkers, with their IQs above 100, don't buy the crap, but there are just as many voters who cannot think for themselves, so, easily led, they follow the guidance of people they trust.

I share your sense of possible impending doom. Hell, I thought Kerry might win in 2004.

How can a group so stupid at running a government be so smart at getting elected to do so?

"Like man, like state...governments vary as the character of man vary...the state is what it is because its citizens are what they are. Therefore we need not expect better states until we have better men."

"America gets the politicians they deserve. That's it. And you keep struggling." Al Lewis

I tend to think this "tightening" is mostly a ploy by the media whores to get us to tune in in mass numbers to their election return coverage.

Remember the same press that gladly sold out to the Bush administration will still be looking to suck up all the money on and after election day.

They're telling us Bush's ratings have come up 5 points in the last week. What kind of drugs are those flip-flopping 5% taking.....I want some! My only fear is another stolen election. The sudden push for electronic voting, the sudden verdict in the Sadam trial...it's all a tad too fishy for me to be comfortable with.

The Republicans have NO other choice but to try and steal tomorrow's election. If they lose in great numbers tomorrow they are worse than dead. Dead means gone, slunk away, back in their Osama-like caves. Neo-con Republicans know if they lose tomorrow it means a year or two of investigations, trials, embarrassment, punishment and the end of their cash-rich grab for world domination.

They HAVE to win tomorrow or face endless misery that of course they so richly deserve. So expect the very worst that humans can attempt in the next 48 hours. This is the sickening calm before the invasion, today is the day before VR Day. The Republicans are sitting up in those hills in their well armed bunkers waiting and they will not willingly surrender and go away.

The election tomorrow is for all the marbles...marbles as big as Mt. Rushmore. The Republicans know if they lose it will mean 40 years of wandering in the political desert. They will not go so easy. Good luck to every living thing on earth. The outcome of the vote tomorrow will seal our fate for generations.

MSNBC's Mitchell cherry-picked polls to claim "GOP gaining ground"; CNN's O'Brien ignored own polling to claim race is "tightening"

Albert,

Because running the campaigns is the only thing they practice or make an effort to complete. The only other effort expended to hide their incompetence from the voters
