About anything. But I can tell you we're working on the escalating blog glitches. It seems likely a change in the software will be necessary. Our problem is 1) I don't know how quickly we can make the change and 2) the troubles that will continue in the meanwhile. Understand that if this blog was unconnected to a much larger website and the need to rotate advertising throughout all pages, we wouldn't be needing to have this discussions.
Again, I'm sorry. And I appreciate everyone's patience. A tip on comment posting. I've found from my own experience that the comments get posted relatively quickly, even if your screen is not telling you that they've been posted. So you can hit the post button, wait a few seconds and then page back on your browser. Generally, it seems like the comment still "takes."
On pleasanter subjects: I've made a vat of vegetable soup and several loaves of cheese bread and await the football game.
An early open line.

I bet you didn't know you would create a monster that had to be fed when you started this. Those of us that are addicted to it will just have to ride it out while you get it fixed.

"Understand that if this blog was unconnected to a much larger website and the need to rotate advertising throughout all pages, we wouldn't be needing to have this discussions."
If that's what your web people are telling you then you need new ones. The problems are even worse late at night when traffic is at the lowest. Any good blog program can handle your level of traffic. The New York Times uses free blog software and it doesn't have these problems.

"several loaves.."
For whom, may I ask?

December 2, 2006 04:08 PM
Max, being connected to a
larger website makes no
difference. If your server
can't handle the traffic then
you need more resources.
Since it does happen at all
hours, that's clearly not the
problem.
Typepad is a decent blog
software although some free
programs are indeed actually
better. But that's not the
problem either because much
larger sites use it with no
problems.
Your blgo is on a windows
server, while most hosting
servers do not use
windows. There's a reason
for this. Problems are more
common on windows servers
but not this common.
That leaves one thing. The
person or persons handling
your blog do not know what
they are doing.
There are a lot of people in
the business that over charge
and under perform. You are
using one of those
companies. I'm in the
business, but I'm not taking on
new clients due to demand.
So I mention all this only to
help. You can take the advice
or not.
I noticed you abandoned your
old homemade blogging
program some time ago which
solved some problems. Now
you need to change providers.

Yes, I'm glad that we're in the SEC championship, BUT...we have no timeouts with 7 minutes left in the first half. HDN, you've got to manage the clock better in the 2nd half. This is Florida for heaven's sake.

Don't know if I'm blessed or not, but I honestly haven't been having many problems with the blog. The rare time that something screws up with I try to post, I pull up a new page and go to the thread and usually I'll see my new post there.
That way I avoid looking kinda goofy by posting something 2 or 3 times. When you run on as little brain power as I do, you don't want to be seen screwing up in public....

Has the Bush Administration changed to meet the voters expectation since the midterms? I don't think so!
The new head of the GSA ideclaring war on a new "TERRORIST" organization in the U.S. Government. It is the General Services Administration's own Office of Inspector General, charged with oversight of $56 billion of federal contracts. She says they can reduce costs by outsourcing the contract oversight to private firms. The only question is will the handpicked Republican firms actually oversight or just bill less to line their pockets?
Click on my name for the full article.
"...The new chief of the U.S. General Services Administration is trying to limit the ability of the agency's inspector general to audit contracts for fraud or waste and has said oversight efforts are intimidating the workforce, according to government documents and interviews. GSA Administrator Lurita Alexis Doan, a Bush political appointee and former government contractor, has proposed cutting $5 million in spending on audits and shifting some responsibility for contract reviews to small, private audit contractors...
...Doan compared Miller and his staff to terrorists, according to a copy of the notes obtained by The Washington Post. "There are two kinds of terrorism in the US: the external kind; and, internally, the IGs have terrorized the Regional Administrators," Doan said, according to the notes. Through a spokesman, Doan said she respects the inspector general's role and is not doing anything to undercut his independence. She also denied that she had referred to Miller, a former terrorism prosecutor, or his staff as terrorists.
'She's trying to reduce wasteful spending,' said GSA spokesman David Bethel. 'Just like any other office within GSA, she has asked the OIG to live within his budget, and she's hopeful that the IG is going to embrace that concept. She is not singling him out for this attention. She's not challenging the IG's independence. This is about fiscal discipline and reducing wasteful spending and creating a business environment that can be embraced by everyone. By law, she can't reduce the IG's independence, and she's aware of that.'..."
Got to watch them terrorists that makes government contractors live up to their contracts. OH.............................................HORSE!!..............................Feathers!

For the full column click my name.
THE NEW TALKIN" POINTS...IT'S THE VOTERS' FAULT (i.e. YOUR FAULT)!
" '...All over the world, scoundrels are ascendant, rising on a tide of American weakness. It makes for a
perilous future.
President Bush bet his presidency - and America's world leadership - on the war in Iraq.
Tragically, it looks as though he bit off more than the American people were willing to chew.
The U.S. is failing in Iraq. Bush's policy was repudiated by the American people in the last election.
And now America's enemies and rivals are pressing their advantage, including Iran, Syria, the Taliban,
Sudan, Russia and Venezuela. We have yet to hear from al-Qaida.' -- Mort Kondracke in a column in
the Roll Call
Let's first take note that the 'blame the American people for Bush's screw-ups' meme has definitely hit
the big time. It's not Bush who bit off more than he could chew or did something incredibly stupid or
screwed things up in a way that defies all imagining. Bush's 'error' here is not realizing in advance that
the American people would betray him as he was marching into history. The 'tragedy' is that Bush "bit
off more than the American people were willing to chew." That just takes my breath away...."

1. Max, the problems are really not that bad. It will be nice if you can find better software, but 95% of the time things work just fine so it's no big worry.
2. This game has nearly killed me. Really good game. Sloppy, lots of "if only's". Neither team deserved to win, but of the two Florida was a little LITTLE better.

more problems. I guess you

I lose posts all the time. Then I

If you hit the back button after an error, usually your text is
gone. I can't remember having
problems with other blogs
including typepad blogs.

we had a 10-3 season and almost won the championship in a very wierd game. mcfadden was hurt in some way and limped most of the game and florida was a very good team. when you play in the sec you are in the big leagues. our top 8 or 10 teams are generally as tough as they come and the teams beat each other up. you saw the way the florida players limp off. it was a very hard hitting game. the players played very hard.

He had his moments but overall Dick had bad games....two in a row.
My major complaint is HDN's lack of ability to get two QBs ready. You'd think with all the trick stuff that they could have prepared Mustain enough to at least be able to relieve Dick a couple of series during these two games.
A couple of solid plays by Mustain passing and we have totally different results.
hindsight.....yada yada.

Yep, I've lost a few erudite comments. But then I was nattering about my usual pet peeves so I doubt that anyone missed much.
My primary irritant? The need to repeatedly sign in even though Type Key seems to say it will keep me signed in for two weeks.
NOW. The biggie.
I'm not much for sports -- and thank heavens for a hubbie who feels the same -- but I do like food. So Max, be forewarned. One of these cold days when you announce that a big pot of soup is on the stove, or that artery clogging dip you make, you may find us on your doorstep, Dog and all. (Dog's the one in charge of cleaning the stove.)

I must agree with Bold and Blue. ArkTimes.com will never reach its true potential using the likes of Aristotle, Newswyre, Microsoft, etc. They don't have a unique vision for this site.
Max deserves congratulations for becoming a successful blogger, but this web site should be offering more features like daily podcasts and automated content generation that are commonly available at other sites.

I can't explain it, but I have NEVER lost a post. That is, if I get an error then click the back button, the text I typed is ALWAYS there. So if the error is that I'm not signed in, I can copy the text I'd typed, then sign in, then paste it back in and post it.
In cases where the blog is just completely dead, I either forget about the post, or paste the text I typed into Windows Notepad and save it to post later when the blog's back up.
It's the frequency of blog being completely down that I'm referring to in my "95% of the time" quote. It's almost always here and working well enough to get a post through.
Slow? Yes.
A few hurdles to jump through sometimes? Yes.
But it's usable for me 95% of the time.

I'm computer/internet illiterate; but I live in a family of computer geeks...this site sucks, technically wise. And, it really shouldn't be this difficult. But then I don't like to complain about a free service and the 'specifics' of why all this technical stuff is occurring flies right over my head (basically the tech people need, well, to do better).
(Using a different browser solved my registration glitch.)

I have never lost a post. When posting, I click on "post," then hit the back button so I won't have to wait 120 seconds. The biggest gripe I have is I can't stay signed in. If I leave for 10 minutes or so I have to re-sign in. I wish we could edit our essays after they have been posted, just to correct gramma, spelling or information. Most sites allow your ability to do this.

require this silly login crap.

"mcfadden was hurt in some way and limped most of the game and florida was a very good team."
yes, thats very true, but oklahoma won the big 12 championship with their QB gone and adrian peterson injured.
Can someone explain to me why HDN didnt put Mustain in for a couple of series? I dont understand. He was good enough to start a couple of games, and now when things are going bad he's not good enough to even give him a chance?
I dont get it.

"Can someone explain to me why HDN didnt put Mustain in for a couple of series?" - Tina
Yes, I can explain it Tina. There is a vacuum between Nutt's ears. This was revealed when he tried and tried to make Sorahan the starter ahead of Matt Jones, when in 1998 he inserted Stoerner back in the game when we were ahead of Vandy about 30 points and Stoerner got injured, and last year against Vandy McFadden and Jones carried the ball a total of four times....and Vandy beat us.
It's commonly called the lack of intelligence.

Well, I can say that I'm fairly new to this blogging game and I think the software is a bit user-unfriendly, but not so much that it's become a burden. I just want to know what I can do to hamper these spammers who keep leaving tons of comments on my blog. I mean I go in and its like 30 new comments, and I'm all excited people have commented and then its just stuff about watching some show or going to some girly website and then I have to go in and delete them and then stroke my ego and post something nosequitur about Borat... Any suggestions?
The sign in thing is a little annoying, but probably a necessarry evil.
