I heard on the radio this morning that actor Kevin Bacon has joined the fight to keep Alice Walton from buying the painting The Gross Clinic from that Philadelphia medical school.

i think alice should have done like jack stephens and collected for 20 years before announcing the museum. these days every american painting on sale is increased in price because of her efforts. there are efforts to keep the great paintings in their places. in this world evidently quietly is the way to go. she should not have built the museum without a world quality collection and it is going to be hard to get one the way they are going about it. maybe a few velvet elvi and some duck stamps will help fill the walls. i think she mainly wanted to see a neat building go up and did not realize that you can't get major museum art the walton way, either by low price or bullying your way through.
