Rummy's last words
Oopps. Just saw this. You'll want to read and discuss, particularly Psychotics for Bush. Donald Rumsfeld turns out to be a cheese-eating surrender monkey, too. From the New York Times:
Two days before he resigned as defense secretary, Donald H. Rumsfeld submitted a classified memo to the White House that acknowledged that the Bush administration’s strategy in Iraq was not working and called for a major course correction.
“In my view it is time for a major adjustment,” wrote Mr. Rumsfeld, who has been a symbol of a dogged stay-the-course policy. “Clearly, what U.S. forces are currently doing in Iraq is not working well enough or fast enough.”
Nor did Mr. Rumsfeld seem confident that the administration would readily develop an effective alternative. To limit the political fallout from shifting course he suggested the administration consider a campaign to lower public expectations.
“Announce that whatever new approach the U.S. decides on, the U.S. is doing so on a trial basis,” he wrote. “This will give us the ability to readjust and move to another course, if necessary, and therefore not ‘lose.’ ”
“Recast the U.S. military mission and the U.S. goals (how we talk about them) — go minimalist,” he added. Mr. Rumsfeld’s memo suggests frustration with the pace of turning over responsibility to the Iraqi authorities; in fact, the memo calls for examination of ideas that roughly parallel troop withdrawal proposals presented by some of the White House’s sharpest Democratic critics. Well, well NYT finally grew a pair and began stepping out with the truth- that should have been instigated years ago.

I'd almost have more respect for this toad if he had stuck to his guns to the last.

Rummy gone is a great first step. I read what he's saying as George, you FK'ed up and all the kings horses and all the king's men can't put Iraq back together again.
There certainly is such a thing as a disaster with no good way out and we are right in the middle of that situation. Maybe President Cheney now knows why no other US President dared FK with that region before.
It's been a nasty den of snakes since Jesus was skipping rope. They will live in peace when each and everyone of them are dead and in their graves and not before.
I'm just dreadfully sorry Bush-Cheney and Rummy have ground up 2890 of our troops for nothing, and no telling how many more will have to come home in a body bag before the last US soldier leaves Iraq. We spend all our time wondering if "Kramer" is a bad guy, when we should be building a gallows for most of the Bush administration.
We need to cut and run off the neo-cons who think getting advice from Kissinger is a good idea. We need to stop the return of Bush 41 to the White House, we've seen that movie before and it sucked.
America's government is out of control and while earning us new enemies everyday, they themselves are currently the most dangerous terrorist on the planet.
Their incompetence and failure is our incompetence and failure as long as they represent and control the United States of America. The people of Cuba have more reason to take pride in their leaders today. We will be doing our own kids a disservice unless we chop down the Republican leadership until we hit an honest vein to complete this term of office.
Let 2007 be a year of Political Inquisition, let the guilty swing along side Sadam and let's bring back the good old USA.

"...Last year, Congress had planned a triumphant national 'day of celebration' upon the return of our armed services following their victories in Iraq and Afghanistan this year. A provision in the 2006 National Defense Authorization Bill set aside $20 million for our generation's V-I Day. (For those wondering, success would be determined by presidential proclamation.)
Alas, the ticker tape orders have been postponed. With our troops mired in mideast violence, Senate Republicans added a line to the 2007 defense authorization bill to extend the measure through next year. Because, you know, all our troops are coming home then..."
Bush Administration doesn't just "...talk with forked tongue..." theirs have four or five tines

This was a pre-resignation memo from Rummy. I think it was either a last-ditch effort to save his job, or an effort to post a "right with God" position on the record before he rode off into the sunset.
Either way, it's meaningless. History's position on Donald Rumsfeld was never in doubt. He cemented his reputation over 6 long years and thousands dead.

I'm sad about the Arkansas loss in football tonight.
On to the topic:
No one living in America can defend the invasion of Iraq, except Bush.
Stupid is as stupid does.

From the times article:
¶Initiate an approach where U.S. forces provide security only for those provinces or cities that openly request U.S. help and that actively cooperate, with the stipulation being that unless they cooperate fully, U.S. forces would leave their province.
______________snip
Under the circumstances we are now in (The Neo Nut Cases are still in charge) This might be a good idea. Imagine treating ol' purple fingered people like they, you know, have a say in something about the world they live in.
