She's got game

The NY Daily News, in town for the Jermain Taylor title bout, has a colorful account of yesterday's pre-fight hoopla, including a nod to Taylor fan Janet Huckabee (file photo). The first lady was hobbling and using a cane on account of recent knee surgery, but she was scrappy as ever.

Janet Huckabee, wife of Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, came out to whip up support for the fight even though she was hobbled and walking on a cane because of knee replacement surgery on both legs. Huckabee even engaged in some trash-talking with Ouma.

"Kassim, you're a dead duck," the First Lady of Arkansas said. "Jermain, you promised me a knockout. So you better do just that, son. I'm forewarning you, Kassim."

Ouma, who was kidnapped from school and forced to be a child soldier for the Ugandan Army from age 6-19, simply smiled at the First Lady's attempt to scare him. Ouma said he considered it an honor that Taylor offered to fight him in Taylor's hometown.

"In America you can tell who your real friends are if they invite you into their homes," said Ouma, who is stepping up to middleweight from 154 pounds. "I consider Jermain Taylor a real friend. He has invited me to his home. I'm going to throw him a party on Saturday night."

Is Sally Quinn ready for this first lady?

Hell, NOBODY is ready for THIS first lady and I use the term loosely. Glad to see she's keeping up the Jethrine persona.

Ah, finally a potential first lady of true poise, with class on the level of Jackie Kennedy.

Laura Bush would appear as a common barmaid in comparison to Mrs. Huckabee.

Tell me, though, did she clench a corncob pipe in her teeth as she spoke the above quote?

The phrase brazen hussy comes to mind. Or redneck mamma. I wonder how she would act at a wrestling match.
And Amurricans thought Eleanor and Hillary were outspoken? Oh, lord. Can a state be kicked out of the union?

Jethrine "Whoop Ass" Huckabee.

I can just see her spewing them fightin' words....with a wad of chaw protruding from her cheek.

Bet she keeps hubby Huckster in line threatening him like that!

Boxing isn't my cup of tea.

A friend in Hope told me that teenager Janet could whip any lad that ventured to cross her.

If that kid were fighting anyone but Taylor I'd be pulling hard for him.

I'm going. Only my third live boxing match, first since the 80's. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see a middleweight title fight in my own home town. I agree, Ouma would be my favorite against anyone but Taylor. Anybody remember Cornelius Boza-Edwards? Another Ugandan who escaped with his life, was a gentle soul outside the ring and a rock 'em, sock 'em robot inside.

Sounds like Ouma's got a lot more class than our First "Lady".

Does anyone know what is to become of Don Bingham and his wife?

Boxing is barbaric and I'm not surprised that Janet has such blood lust.

Don and his beard will continue with their catering in Conway
