Do you know what it means ...

... to miss New Orleans. Thanks to Eugene Robinson of Washington Post for noting the State of the Union omission that had me screaming at the TV set.

More infuriating than anything George W. Bush said in his State of the Union address was what he didn't say. Congress and the nation heard nothing, zilch, nada, not a single, solitary word about New Orleans, the Gulf Coast and the devastation that remains from the worst natural disaster in United States history.

A disaster that happened on his watch. How nice that the White House has been able to move beyond the trauma of September 2005 -- wind and water, death and destruction, poverty and race, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." Too bad the people of New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish, Pass Christian, Biloxi and the rest of the coast will never have the luxury of forgetting.

"It would not be possible in this short amount of time to actually rebut the President's message, nor would it be useful. Let me simply say that we in the Democratic Party hope that this administration is serious about improving education and healthcare for all Americans, and addressing such domestic priorities as restoring the vitality of New Orleans."

Ah, yes. But it's been good for the city of Hope. Lots of FEMA trailers to be stored, and plasma TV sets to be looted.

and it's been good for NO Republicans as there are NO provisions for affordable housing. The do have a de facto policy of running low income blacks out of NO.
It's also been good for Haliburton. Well, hell, is there any federal program now that's not good for Haliburton. Hali get to drag it's feet on more NO-Bid contracts, hire illegal immigrants and totally thumb their noses at federal wage rules which apply to federally funded projects.
The Culture of Corruption is everywhere.

Louie, you are too cynical at 6:30 in the morning. I thought I spotted you carrying one of signs up on the Hill the other day.

Come on guys, NO is OLD news to Bush and Co.
Nothing to be gained there and he has a shiny new health (cough, bs, cough) care program to roll out.
BTW, has there been much reporting on the red lining that is going on in NO by the nationwide lenders?
Been reading the Livejournal of author Poppy Z Brite for a awhile now and she has been writing about her troubles getting a loan for a home in NO. Had to find a local lending to give them a mortage as the larger (she calls them cootchiewide) one would not in the area they were moving into.

Why would he mention the U.S. pole of hi "axis of evil," especially after he has purged it by mere incompetence.

Besides his Momma 'n them told him, ". . .they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people . . . , you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them. . . ."
