Huckabee and Dumond
Didn't take long. A post on Daily Kos, to which a mere 11,500 other blogs link and perhaps the most read political blog in the U.S., already details Mike Huckabee's advocacy for the release of rapist/killer Wayne Dumond (pictured with the studied innocence of a man who killed and raped as many as six people in his career of crime). He was convicted of murder again after his release by the Huckabee-influenced parole board and was a suspect in another killing. The Kos item notes, too, how Huckabee edged into this affair because it was part of the smorgasbord of Arkansas smears offered up to trash Bill Clinton's presidential candidacy and The Huckster, ever ready to lead a parade, was all too happy to oblige.
I need not remind regular readers that the well-known investigative journalist, Murray Waas, wrote a prize-winning expose of Huckabee's work in behalf of Dumond for the Arkansas Times. Don't hold your breath for Tim Russert to ask about it Sunday. But its time will come.
And Eschaton, another popular liberal blog, is on the Dumond case, too, we've just noticed, with a link to our Waas report and also quotes liberally from a certain Arkansas blog that pointed out lies in Huckabee's latest book about Dumond. (Huckabee said Dumond was never convicted in Missouri and tries to suggest he had no influence over the parole board, which a raft of named sources told us was untrue.)

Good morning, everyone. I have a question about how the Huckabee campaign will unfold. When Bill Clinton announced his candidacy, there was a huge public event that thousands attended. Hundreds of Arkansas immediately proclaimed their support for Bill. The now famous Friends of Bill traveled to other states to promote their candidate. My question: How will Arkansans respond to Huckabee's announcement? Will it be anything like the response Bill got?

I suppose I should offer a response to my question. My sense is that the Arkansas response to Hucakabee's announcement and campaign will be a muted and tepid. I could be wrong, but I just don't see the carnival atmosphere that Clinton's announcement generated, and I don't see armies of Arkansans stepping up and stepping out. Anyone have an opposing view?

Pavel you said it pretty well when you wrote carnaval because ole Bill was a damn good clown acting out something he is not... a decent person, i.e.. Everyone has faults that differ in lots of ways so Bill and Mike are just two men that are so different it's like night and day and neither are fit to be a leader of a nation. Scum rises to the top and politics makes it rise faster than anything...

>How will Arkansans respond to Huckabee's announcement?<
It's been reported already, a nice sigh of relief is heard around the capital.
Hufabee vs. Ark can be discerned in Ark's Feb primary. Until then they will be busy shoring up the lies he must maintain to stay viable.

If only someone had a stream of video from Jay Cole, Huckabee's good friend who wanted Dumond released. That video would have to go national and expose our moderate Mike. Right-wingers releasing rapists can't possibly be good for their "moral advantage" argument for their election. Plus, Jay Cole scares some "Christian" conservatives. The rest of the world should get to know NW AR's, one of Huckabee's GOP strongholds, brand of nutjob politics practiced equally by "backwoods redneck" natives and upper-income transplanted Michigan suburban neo/paleocons "yankees". Shouldn't be surprised at the nexus, since self-loathing(at least other-loathing disguised as self-loathing) is a component of Southern GOP religio-political philosophy. The upper-income yankees take advantage of the self-loathesome Southerners they attract to their brand of poisoned ideology. Huckabee claims to be the GOP wing of the Repubs, why not expose him for what that truly entails.
An Example of Cole's sanity:"DAMASCUS IN PROPHECY
ABSOLUTELY amazing how rapidly Scripture is being fulfilled. Also amazing how the pagans are attempting to explain away the fact that God's Word detailed these events many years ago.
There is an abundance of evidence that Damascus will be nuked in the near future. Scripture tells us that it will be destroyed, and it appears that the time is ripe for that event to happen. Most thinking people know that Israel is not going to just lay down and die. The Palestinians with all of their Arab allies have other ideas, and the two clash violently. I personally look for these cataclysmic events to manifest themselves post haste. The hour for the "crying out for the rock and mountains to fall on them and hide them from the face of God" is coming rapidly.
How wonderful it would be to see some of the Lord's elect come to Him in these last hours and be of some service to Christ before it it too late. Jay Cole Sr.

Is Huck gonna NUKE Damascus?! Cole could be Huck's secretary of state and advance such zany proposals for the world to ponder. They are fellow Baptist preachers with a Ouachita College/Univ. connection.

If it wasn't for the embarrassment of the last 10 years and the disgust I feel towards Huck's incredible 24-7 greed, I'd have to say I've had a lot of fun bashing Huckabuck the last few years.
But really....at this point we're in danger of devoting 100% of our time and attention to a guy barely worth noticing. We can go to bed each night knowing that there is zero chance of Mike Huckleberry getting elected to much of anything.
He might have had a slim chance against Pryor in 2008, but his ungraceful exit from the Governor's mansion pretty much ruined that. He wasn't our worst governor, but it is far more likely we'll see him doing his new job as a Wal-Mart greeter than holding high elected office in the future.
Since the Republicans are sucking so badly, it is possible he'll wind up being taken somewhat seriously by the wingnut section, but how great is it to be in the VIP section of a ship that is going down after hitting an iceberg named Bush-Cheney.
Thanks to Bush-Cheney the ticket of Jesus-Abe Lincoln wouldn't have a chance in 2008 if they ran on the Republican ticket. The lazy news media will fry Huckabuck in his own juices should he get his head above water in the next few months. Russert may not take him apart this Sunday, but someone on down the road will shame him and toss him off the stage and that will be the end of that.
The best revenge is living well and if Governor Beebe keeps on track in a couple of years even the most hardened wingnut will wonder why on earth we put up with Huck for 10 long unproductive years.
We're living at the end of an sad era. In a few years we'll look back and wonder why we were so distracted, why we accepted such bozos in positions of leadership. We'll be ashamed of the Bush years and the Huckabee years alike since apathy opened the door to both.
The Information Age has finally landed and it has crushed the royal heads of people like Huck. If there is a God...it will imprison people like Bush and Cheney. And the world will cheer.
So go on and be of good cheer...at the very last moment the people of America have awakened from their slumber and it will be a long long time before we accept small men and women to lead our nation and our state, at best, sideways, at worst, straight down the crapper for the enrichment of themselves and their party. It's a little early....but Happy Days are Here Again!

pavel you have the best point. he is alone in his home state and that shows a lot about the man. i hope the people of the nation are shown the difference between the reception huck and clinton were given by arkansans on the occasions of their momentious announcement. such a big statement should be made among screaming friends. huckabee did not have the courage to announce in the state he had govened for 10 years after the way he and his wonderful newly wedded wife, at least you shower newly weds don't you, scooted out of state. maybe they don't have that many friends as shown by her election results.
i really think russert made a deal to not be very tough if he made the announcement on his show therefore keeping his reputation as the sheep of journalism therefore huck will not have to ban meet the press yet from his official press list yet, but they had better watch out.

S. Hoo,
Thank you. Let no one ever forget the role of the REVEREND Jay Cole in influencing the REVEREND Mike Huckabee in this sordid event.

Lets all remember to always thank Jimmie Lou Fisher for being the only Dem soul brave enough to take on Huckabee, and if we had worked our tails off the Huckster would already be forgotten by now. As good as Beebe is going to be, his b*lls were the size of bb's when the opportunity came to take Huckabee out instead of letting him rip us off until he was forced to quit.

While this article is great, it still misses the point. The reason Huck wanted to release Dumond was because Dumond had become a born-again Christian while in prison. Dumond claimed that as a Christian, he could have never committed the offense he was convicted of. Bro. Huck, with the help and encouragement of Bro. Cole, bought it-hook, line and sinker. The real crime here is that two other women lost their lives due to this type of flawed thinking. Max, the Times should do a series on Huck's other clemency/pardon cases, and see how many times religion played a part in the decision.
