Old troubles at LRCVB
The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau has been reeling lately from Democrat-Gazette articles about doing business with members of the Advertising and Promotion Commission that oversees the agency and buying things, such as vehicles, without bids.
Questionable practices at the agency are not new. See this week's Arkansas Times for a case that cost $400,000 in taxpayer-paid settlements five years ago of legal action by former CVB employee Mercedes Alexander. She sued over employment discrimination. But the cases were settled after she'd produced, in preparing for the trial, numerous instances of questionable practices at the agency. She's now written a novel with a thinly disguised version of those events.
