Strike three -- UPDATE
A third independent source -- unconnected to two previous tipsters -- says he has it on unimpeachable authority that Mike Huckabee will announce his intentions to run for president as a guest Sunday on Meet the Press with Tim Russert.
Don't expect Russert to be unkind to someone who favors him with a scoop.
Strategery? We already know that Huckabee has appearances scheduled in Iowa next week. With his relatively small treasury, it's a cheap place to campaign with potentially big returns and the Republican caucus there has been friendly to people with solid religious conservative credentials. We'd guess Huckabee will put a tremendous effort into Iowa, hoping for a breakout that entrances the national media and voters. It has happened before, including on the Democratic side.
Let the fun begin. We hope the national press gets up to speed on Huckabee's local record with the energy it delved into Bill Clinton's foibles. Smashed hard drives? Wedding registries? Midnight dole to pals? Payroll padding with relatives? Missing records? Missing furniture and equipment? Comparing himself to Oskar Schindler? Comparing weight loss to a concentration camp? Beating up on "tree-huggers and environmental wackos." Antipathy to same-sex marriage and civil unions except in New Hampshire. Creation science. Forgetting his gambling opposition to let Oaklawn have slot machines and then pocketing a $10,000 contribution. Jetting around with a multi-million-dollar beneficiary of state Medicaid money? Ethical miscues. Dubious pardons. Advocacy for the release of a killer/rapist who killed again?
UPDATE: The Huckabee campaign now confirms that Bro. Mike will be on Meet the Press Sunday to discuss future plans. Please note we told you yesterday. Tell your friends. And call Alice and congratulate her, if you'd like. Number below.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will be a guest on NBC's "Meet the Press" with Washington Bureau Chief and moderator, Tim Russert on Sunday morning, Jan. 28. The former governor will discuss a range of topics, including his future plans.
Later on Sunday, Huckabee is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. at The National Review Institute's Conservative Summit ("Claiming the Future") at the JW Marriott Hotel, in Washington, D.C.
For more information, please contact Kirsten Fedewa at 202-365-6936 or Alice Stewart at 501-517-2581.

Comments
If there is no other reason to hold Huckabee accountable for his official misconduct it is so that his potential constituency knows what they are getting into.
Does America need yet another fundamentally corrupt administration? President Huckabee does seem like a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

Perhaps the New York Times will send ace reporter Jeff Gerth to Arkansas to get all the facts on Huckabee.

So, apparently, the great open minds who run this blog want to censor me for pointing out that I wasn't wrong that Maryland courts have found that it's ERA did require gay marriage to be allowed.
http://www.aclu-nca.org/boxSub.asp?id=104
I can be here all day. I guess you've figured out that if the average Arkansan or even the average legislator finds this out, ERA will not be passed in Arkansas.
ARK. BLOG: I don't know what happened on that. I went to add a comment and it disappeared. But if you throw the censor B.S. around again I will censor you.
Your info is incomplete, of course. That's a Balitmore city court ruling, on appeal, that was argued last month. The ERA is not the sole argument in favor of same-sex marriages there. It is also rooted in constitutional equal protection, an argument that can, and has been raised, under the U.S. Constitution, ERA or no ERA. The only controlling precedents in the U.S. (and Baltimore city court covers only Baltimore city court) are against your position.

Oooh, I'm scared. What would you think if a comment which you posted that disagreed with the blogger disappeared??? I'll your buy your explanation. But, you ought to apologize not threaten to censor me for assuming the obvious.

Who cares if it's a city court??? And who cares if it's not the sole argument??? It's obvious that ERA has been interpreted as an impetus for gay marriage. I don't think you want people to know that. I don't know why it is that liberals aren't brave enough to announce their true intentions. That may not be one of your intentions, but you know that it's a possible outcome and you know that the people of Arkansas won't be happy about that. And I assume that you support gay marriage, so just admit it and see if your ideas can stand on their own merits.
Or, you could just censor me.
By the way, I've copied this page and I'll be happy to show it to everybody if you decide to make good on your threat to censor me.

"P. S. I posted this earlier, but Max or Warwick censored that post.

So, was it a mistake to remove this post, too?
ARK. BLOG: No it wlas removed intentionally because 1) you are a liar, there was a glitch not a censor 2) I addressed the item in the earlier post. You were warned. Adios.

Oh well, Annoymouse was such a playmate. I've always thought Annoymouse is a generic location where several people post from, like the Ark Family bunch, or a Young Republican office, or all of them.

Go Huckabeen, Go!
The longer you stay away the better for many of us.
Some of us would even contribute to your PAC if you would tell them you're from Mississippi, or somewhere!

I didn't see it linked here but E.J. Dionne had a column last week for the Wash Post, I saw it in the Commercial Appeal, that talked about Huckabee's chances.
Dionne said good, but he also quoted some rag called Arkansas Times and said that if Huckabee did declare, that the Times would be a "must-read."
Given Max's shameless sense of self-promotion, I was a little surprised that it wasn't up here.
I also wonder if Huckabee's contributed editorial for this Sunday, the one that caused some buzz on here, isn't an embargoed declaration of his running for President.
ARK. BLOG: We posted it the day it appeared and noted his kind reference to us. If you don't shamelessly promote yourself, who will?
My understanding is that the op-ed is about the hard drives, not his candidacy. But maybe it will be a two-fer.

Dear Anonymous:
Thanks you for standing up against the perils that homo marriages present.
If fags are allowed to get hitched, my own marriage will cease to exist--implode under the weight of knowing that some fags can file a joint tax return!!!!
This is trully a good enough reason to say to hell with equal rights for women. Don't these heifers know that god put men in charge for a reason and that we have an inate right to more that 50%? We are NOT equals so why should they have equal rights?!
Keep fightin them homos, Anon!!!

Summing up anon's position: "If we grant equal rights to women, gay people will also want them!"
You know, I think your homophobia is just a little too strident. Perhaps you should consider coming out of the closet.

Does anybody else find it a bit ironic that Anonymous is complaining about ERA and gays and then gets upset when censorship is mentioned? He wants you to deny rights in one breath and then wants his rights in the next.
Is it no surprise that a man who sees the "obvious" subversive plots associated with the ERA also immediately sees a computer glitch as censorship and an ungodly cabal at work to deny him freedom of expression (which he wants to deny for others)?
Despite our differences, I hold Don Kehotay, Arkansas Red, and Prouster in kind regard for their restrained comments. They, along with a few other conservatives on this blog, try to persuade one to their point of view. I don't sense a tone of moral superiority being pushed down my throat nor "the sky is falling" diatribe which supports those catering to fearmongering.
I guess a certain savage bitterness drives the uglier and more uncivil arguments.
Well, maybe some people just need to adjust their medication.

ac360...google Meet the Press.... down toward the bottom on the right side is a link to send an e-mail.
Being the cynic I am it probably won't do any good but it sure as hell won't cost anything. Who knows...if enough people e-mail them they might not play softball with him.

Hey, anon,
I'm a "people of Arkansas" and I'm all for gay marriage and happy about it. Even before I was for that, I was for ERA. I grew up holding campaign signs. And I'm a fourth generation Arkansan. And best of all, I'm teaching the children of this state. God Bless America!
