To cheese dip or not cheese dip
They're closing schools in NW Ark. but that doesn't mean ice and snow will reach those of us in balmy Central Arkansas. For those not already glued to a weather source, here's the Weather Service link. For those who haven't checked last night's open line, Mystery Shopper provided news of $14.99 30-packs of Lite, Bud and Bud Light at the Phillips 66 at 47th and Camp Robinson in Levy. Grab me some chips, will ya?
Just call us your full-service news source.

Does no good for me. The wife is a state employee, and even if state employees are off due of the weather tomorrow, she'll still have to go because the leg is in session.
Every agency must have a skeleton crew, so she will have to head out regardless of the weather. See -- sometimes its good to be the peon.
If something happens to her on the way to work, maybe we can find a way to blame the Brotherhood.

I remember that really bad ice storm in '00, right in the middle of the Special Session. Staff had to be there. A colleague parked his car away from a tree so it wouldn't fall on his car- but the dang tree fell on his car anyway. If he'd parked beside it, his car would have been missed.
I can drive on the ice and snow, but I am fearful of people who think that the laws of physics don't apply to their giant SUVs.

Max, how dare you mention cheap beer without a nod to Beer 30, the greatest thing to hit Northwest Arkansas since Mitch Mustain....
...maybe that reference would have been more appropriate a year ago.

We're getting plenty in Chickenopolis. Personally, I wish all ya'll southeners who would like to have some winter weather "because it's so pretty"...... had it. To me, it is nothing more than a pain in the ass. If you just want to look at it, let me know and I can arrange to make you a nice print. You can hang it on the wall and look at it all you want - without me having to go out and scrape it off my car. I was out for about 2 hours around lunch, and saw no fewer than 10 wrecks. Wrecks aren't pretty, people. Even to insurance adjusters like me.

Well shucks Rick. I'm having a snow ball vodka martini, waiting for the big one to come tonite. Putting out some extra thistle for the birds as food supplies get short during the cold and snow covers their fav feeding spots.

"...I'm having a snow ball vodka martini,..."
Yumm...never had one but it sounds great! I like hauling out all my vices on a snowy day.
Put out my peanut-butter treats for the birdies and they mobbed me. (I have a healthy respect for distance from my wild critters). But my neighbor's German Shepard is having to fend for itself (outside of what I can do). I've come to a point where not speaking to most of my neighbors is the most neighborly thing I can do. I don't do inane chit chat when animals/kids or war is involved; and telling the truth will only deny me access to the animal(s)...grrr.
The snow is pretty 'cause I'm not driving.

Make a Big snow ball, best to do it in the sink or a plastic tub. make a martini
( a Manhattan glass works best) work the martini down into the snow ball and let it set for several minutes. Oh yea don't forget the olive.

Fort Baptist is being blanketed by snow. The streets are gettin slicker than snot and it's still 24 degrees like it's been all day. I guess I better get in the kitchen and start up a big pot of vegetable beef stew.
My old house actually gets warmer with a good coating of ice and snow that will plug the cracks and shut off the wind that blows my cigarette smoke out into the yard on a normal day. So bring it on!
My poor wife is probably wrapping up things at work in order trek thru the ankle deep snow the 9 blocks to the DBI compound. I can just imagine the worried look on her face as she locks up the office.....no...she's not worried about a wreck on the way home....she's worried because she knows snow makes me exceedingly frisky.......
Come home my little snow bunny...do not fear me......aww....Mr. Snowman is coming to visit her......

i hope you enjoy this but it is real bad for me. i will sit here and try to eat salt free food and hope it warms up some. sounds like we will get some as we seem to get what fort republican gets a few hours later. i went to the store and they were sold out of bread and almost milk. they had plenty of beer but they probably had more of it to begin with. the store manager was grinning from ear to ear, they probably love the snow panics in arkansas.

Pardon me Lwood, but Zelda says I am at my best when being contrary, so I'll point out that a Martini is best made with gin.
I do like the idea of cooling it externally in a snowball. To paraphrase Josiah Bartlet, shaken Martinis are for pussies.
I got to come home at 3:30 as snow in Pocahontas was already enough that the roads are slick, and the women at my office were pretty sure they were about to die, so I sent everybody home.
Forget the Martini. I'm fixing some hot chocolate!

Hot buttered rum is my choice for the day.
We got a pitiful smattering of snow. But I'm always happy it's not ice.

The Oak St Kroger had a few loaves of bread left, but was surprisingly low on eggs. All the "regular" eggs were gone. Only the brown eggs, cage free, organics, etc were left. I grabbed some brown eggs, my fixings for choc chip cookies and brownies and got out.
If Conway doesn't get shut down, I'll be bringing said cookies and brownies to the Chocoholics Night Out Friday night at the Old Gin. Come by, eat some goodies and support the Humane Society!

My dearly departed Grandmother told me that Santa joke when I was a kid....I thought it was horribly dirty at the time and we so surprised that my Grandmother would tell me such a joke. She later warned me to stay away from Lisbons......

Yes that's the traditional martini Sprit and as such is usually simply called a
martini thus you note I specified "vodka
martini."
