Welcome to the blogosphere

Rep. Steve Harrelson of Texarkana, the House majority leader, has begun what he thinks is the first Arkansas legislator's blog. (Hey, Steve, that French headline might work in Louisiana. Here, we'll need a translation -- the boat by the chicken house? the boat by the For-Sale Place?)

Ark. Blog readers will recall that Steve has contributed -- by name -- to our commentariat from time to time.

"The boat has set sail", I believe.

So THAT'S who that is. I've enjoyed Steve's contributions to our little barnyard and look forward to visiting his.

I like the boat by the chicken house better.

Let's see if a legislator can be any more self-important than DBI.

Or more pompous than Prouster.

Again ... someone's not paying attention!

Is there one among us here who is more self-deprecating and less self-important that DBI? I'd almost go so far as to say he's selfless.

DBI, I think Prouster has a little crush on you.

P, go get you some of that Axe shower wash and a big bottle of inexpensive port wine. Depending on the cycle, old DBI might agree to spend some *quality time* with you.

Maybe, just maybe this legislative blog will keep Petrus from having too many "Boss Hogg" moments if Rep. Harrelson will post the good AND the bad.

Naw, it's just old fashioned case of penis envy.

Charles Eddie Smith said, "Maybe, just maybe this legislative blog will keep Petrus from having too many 'Boss Hogg' moments if Rep. Harrelson will post the good AND the bad."

I wouldn't expect that. Rep. Harrelson is not usually given to negative remarks about his colleagues, even when no one else is around, and he even says nice things about Republicans like Bill Britchard who hardly deserve it. In addition, he is Majority Leader and will likely be working hard to build consensus among Democrats with praise for the positive rather than a whack for the whacky. And, I assume, he will want to maintain enough goodwill to pass a few bills of his own.

Nonetheless, his blog will be a positive contribution to the dialogue and will provide some insight not necessarily available from those relegated to the gallery or the press room.

The question to ask is do you really want your Majority Leader having a blog? His own personnal comments and ideas could come back on the caucus. Since he is the Majority Leader the subject matter and what he can say will be limited.

My guess is that this is a service to his constituents in Texarkana. I suspect a number of political junkies (like us) will read it, but we're probably not the intended audience.

Whatever the case, I suspect I will read it. I think SH is a good legislator. He certainly seems like a genuine guy.

Goodness! Thanks for fighting for my honor, which is more than I ever did...how does that Groucho line go?

I bookmarked Rep. Harrelson's blog and I plan on keeping an eye on it in hopes of getting a little education. De-mystifying our state government is a lofty goal, but the more we know, the more oversight we have, the better off we are. I hope to live to see the day Arkansas moves up to 45th!
