Goodbye Toyota

Bad news for Arkansas if The Commercial Appeal in Memphis is correct.

Tupelo, Miss., has been chosen for a new Toyota assembly plant, not Marion, Ark. And not Chattanooga. According to the CA, Tennessee and Arkansas officials have been notified and the formal announcement is Tuesday morning.

(I don't believe the Gulf Opportunity Zone bonds are a factor here, as they were in the German steelmaker's choice of Mobile recently. Tupelo appears to be outside the portion of Mississippi eligible for that advantageous financing.)

The secret is they're gonna make Elvis Toyotas there. I know Chattanooga is all shook up and the Delta of Huck's Arkansas is lonesome tonight. Marion was probably rejected because it's in the ghetto. And no amount of crying I want you, I need you, I love you would have changed this decision.

Don't be cruel to Tupelo, cause it's obvious that Toyota loves it tender. But if everyone in America would buy a Ford those little Jap cars could be returned to sender.

I have a suspicious mind that all car plants will leave the US. And that's alright mama, cause there ain't gonna be no gas to power em anyway. Landing a car plant in Arkansas may be the impossible dream. Casinos are the only hope for Arkansas and to that I say Viva Las Vegas!

Though wanting to land a big manufacturing plant to elevate Arkansas out of 49th is always on my mind, Arkansas will find it's way by amazing grace and just remember to don't think twice, it's alright.

Ack!

oh DBI, you ain't nuthin' but a Hound Dog. : )

And perhaps they knew about Gates and his assistance to Mississippi and also the attractions of the casinos in getting people to come to Mississippi.

You are a genuine piece of art, Death. I nominate you to succeed Lancaster if he ever quits. Until then, just know that I get a kick out of you, and would get misty, even fall to pieces if ever you should leave me. You weren't born to lose, in fact you send me. Chances are, I'll continue to see you here, in all the old familiar places. If not, I'll be searchin' for you in Kansas City, on blueberry hill, up on the roof, or beyond the sea. And if you ain't there, then Georgia will be on my mind.

Why do I feel like we always get our hopes up that we'll "get us a car plant" only to see them come crashing down when the auto company (usually Toyota) chooses the "other" site or, in this case, a dark horse.

We should really focus on other industries. Of course, that would require education and God, Allah and Yahweh know that we won't invest money there because there is nothing to see with that type of investment. No big factory. No smokestacks.

Regarding education, this bill which will probably pass the legislature giving schools an extra $100 per student this year and another $100 next year is a joke. But as long as we can put street lights in Bigelow and increase legislators' pay by $500, we'll keep wishing and hoping and praying for a big car factory to come save us.

God, Allah and Yahweh help us!

Arky

When you ain't got nuthin'(to start with), you got nuthin' t' lose". Help me, Rhonda, help me try to give nuthin' away. Sweet inspiration tells me the hellhound on our trail can take a rest. Ain't no title in it, but our folks couldn't organize a one-car funeral with three days' lead time.

There are some truly brilliant minds on this blog.
DBI, you could make a living as a stand-up comedian.
This thread made my day. Thanks, all.

Muss i' denn, muss i' denn, zum Tupelo hinaus, und Du mein Schatz bleibst hier?

Oh no....when I really want to make my wife screaming mad...I start singing moosey den to her....it drives her insane. Isn't it wonderful how after years of marriage you know right where to stick the knife?

Let's see.

Mississippi got the $3 billion Nissan plant, the $3 billion SeverCorr steel plant, the new $1 billion Toyota plant and is edging up on Vegas as the casino capital of the world.
Maybe the Japanese love gambling, or maybe we can petition to have the Delta annexed to Mississippi so Arkansans along the Great River can have jobs.
Here's the reality for any child growing up in Arkansas, especially minorities. If I want a good education, good job or ggood career, I need to get the hell of Arkansas.

Well--
As long as we spend our education dollars on athletics and high principal and superintendent salaries this is going to continue.

Hurts like hell to get whipped by Mississippi.
