Meanwhile, schools
All the glorious talk of tax cuts, highway programs, legal porkfests, tax credits for farmers, tax credits for manufacturers, increased turnback for cities and counties -- is there really something for everyone?
Notice what's missing?
Education. Is the legislature really serious about meeting its needs first and then considering the rest? Might the governor want to favor the people with a school budget sometime soon? And when he does, will there be anything left?
Again the question: Will school teachers get raises equivalent to that already given legislators?
Sen. Steve Bryles is beginning to get a touch impatient on the point.

Comments
Bravo for Senator Bryles! $317 million in tax cuts, no additional funding for schools in this session. Even with the court watching their every move, they are scurrying to cut corners, put off, protect their pork. They could have done so much good, but they wasted their chance with tax cuts for corporations and an ill-advised Beebe campaign promise.

Jim Holt said the Arkansas Supreme Court's decision that the state does not adequately fund public education could be compared to the New Jersey Supreme Court's decision that the state must extend the right of marriage to gay couples. Maybe legislators are reluctant to introduce a school funding proposal for fear of being attacked for supporting government funded partial-birth abortions and gay marriages?

Cassandra, I'm sure Jim just got his metaphors mixed up a bit. He means well, and as I've often remarked, the Republicans need to make him director of the state Party.
