Alltel sale?
Wall Street Journal reports today that Alltel is stepping up its effort to sell itself to a telecom competitor. Arkansas Business summarizes it here. Needless to say, this is about a whole lot more than a stock play to people in LR.

Can anyone say Ma Bell? The media and communications industries are becoming more concentrated in fewer hands. How soon will Leveritt sell out to Hussman?

Here we go again. Always scary not knowing the outcome of such a sell. Hopefully they will keep the little guy in mind, but sadly I doubt it.

Could have big ramifications for Little Rock. What happens if buyer moves substantial jobs out of this market? Dem-Gazette Real Estate section has many homes at plus $600k sitting week after week, and big ticket market at one million plus looks very stagnant and over-priced at this time.
They can't move any homes in the Heights at that level it seems judging from the For Sale signs dotting the neighborhood.
And what is with the Downtown Condo craze?? I don't get it. There is one listed this weekend at new 300 East Third tower with 1,100 square feet and one bathroom for $529,000.
Holy Cow. Are you looking out over Central Park West or the I-30 on-ramp?
Wow, for that money for such tiny space I want to have more options that Guisano's and Flying Fish and Blvd.Bread Co. and over-priced local art galleries within walking distance.
The real estate market here is over-heated and getting stupid. Downtown has come a long way to be sure, and it is really vibrant and busy, but really, it's still downtown Little Rock. How many times do you want to run over to Sticky Fingers and maybe Bubbas BBQ in the RiverMarket before that gets old.
The point I guess, if there is one--if Alltel should be sold and decent playing job flight ensures, it could add fuel to an already over-heated housing market.

'69,
The sale of Alltel could send the real estate market head over tail in Little Rock with the swift exodus of former Alltellers heading for more exotic regions of the corporate body with their instant wealth. There is no indication that so-to-be Bellers would be willing to troll the streets of LR for satisfaction. Result? Instant real estate deflation from 6 figures to 5 figures, with dumpster-diving as an option for the sellers.
