Catching up
This has been one of those days. I've had other things to do. We'd hoped to have film before now on Bud Cummins appearance at the Clinton school, but we're learning as we go with the camera and YouTube after Warwick's departure, so who knows when. I can tell you that he was far too kind about Karl Rove. It's true that political guys act politically. But when it's part of a calculated plot to politicize the Justice Department, that's another matter. Cummins isn't ready to say that's what happened.

Comments
per RAW Story... Conyers to begin "interviews" tomorrow... (does this mean that JC has decided to go forward without issuing subpeonas? for these folks apparently so)
In addition to Michael Elston, the Judiciary Committees will hear from Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty, Associate Deputy Attorney General David Margolis, Michael Battle, former Director of the Office of U.S. Attorneys, Monica Goodling, Special Counsel to the Attorney General and White House Liaison, William Mercer, U.S. Attorney for Montana and Acting Associate Attorney General, and William Moschella, Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General.
Goodling will continue to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination.
Conyers was still seeking additional information from the Justice Department.

I'm watching the Governor's call-in on AETN right now, and I'm every bit as impressed with him as durangokid is with Ted Koppel.
Beebe really knows his stuff and I'm so proud he's the one sitting there rather than his predecessor.
He made it sound impossible for Arkansas to ever be paid fairly, via the severance tax, by those who pump our natural resources out of the ground. He points out that most of the fuel is pumped on to Illinois, and it would ultimately be the Yankees paying the bulk of the tax increase, but we still can't get it raised.
The antiquated constitutional requirement for a 3/4 vote of House and Senate to raise the tax must be overturned with an amendment. Who wants to start the ball rolling on that, and try to explain to L'il Abner that this isn't a vote to raise his taxes?

OK, now I have a negative to mention about the Governor. He was asked if he would be looking at diversity in his upcoming appointment to the Game and Fish Commission.
I wish the caller had been more specific. The Governor answered that he always looks at gender and racial diversity in his appointments. But I'd like the Governor to realize that game and fish are state resources, and perhaps he could diversify away from appointing an avid sportsman whose interest is in hunting/fishing, and instead appointing, for diversity and to offer an alternative view on the commission, a person who doesn't hunt or fish, but still loves Arkansas animals. Perhaps, as Max mentioned here once, a bird watcher or some other nature enthusiast.
The state medical board has, by law, a consumer advocate on it. They're not all doctors. Likewise, Game and Fish should have one or two animal rights advocates to provide balance.

Thanks, zonker. We're kind of dumpy ourselves, so it should be a good match!

Max, so who is taking his place with you guys?
I always up for a challenge....
If hired, can I still bring Heather Mills' leg with me?
ARK. BLOG: I can tell you that Doug Smith will soon have a fellow son of Searcy to keep company with. He's Lindsey Millar, who has been editor of the Localist web magazine. He starts in a couple of weeks.

Wha? You don't want a chick around there to spoil the fun all of you boys are having???
ARK. BLOG: We call them women around here. And you would, too, lest Managing Editor Leslie Newell Peacock whomp you upside the head.

I guess Lindsey Millar will be required to become an Arkansas possessive shill for Doug Smith.
Long live Arkansas' Underground...
By the way, I'm writing from the Beale Street Hampton Inn, waiting for the ducks to march at 5:00. We have Yankees with us who came to see the ducks and Elvis. I came for the Peabody lobby bar. Let the others crowd around the ducks.
ARK. BLOG: It's, of course, Arkansas's, as all literate people know.

Max, it is Friday.....I'm at Boscoe's with a Mimosa and Heather Mills' leg...again.
You should relax. I hear Alan has a rockin' garden. Perhaps pulling some weeds would be relaxing, no?
ARK. BLO: No.
