Let Pryor have it

Thanks to Brummett blog for pointing me to a conservative blog quoting Mike Huckabee as saying he will not run against Mark Pryor in 2008, no matter what.

I was thinking about the Pryor race this morning and wondering whether the senator had done too much of a favor in martyring Bud Cummins in the course of opposing the installation of Tim Griffin in Little Rock to carry out the Rovian mission of a monolithic Republican government. Cummins has become the Republican even Democrats speak warmly of, not a bad posture. And he ran a pretty good race against Vic Snyder once upon a time. Several people tell me that Cummins retains an interest in elected offiice, but not U.S. Senate in 2008.

The Senator wasn't the only one - you had a fair hand in it. Bud Cummins is rising on a wave of Arkansas Times editorial comments as well. "Attorneygate" sound familiar?

ARK. BLOG: Don't shoot the messenger.

Huckabee said he "respects" Pryor. That's more than most blog posters here do.

I hope Cummins runs, but given his role in sinking Gonzales, he's unlikely to find money from the RNC as long as Bush is in the White House.

>Huckabee said he "respects" Pryor. That's more than most blog posters here do.<

Plus he "respects" than another Demo Senator whipped his ass 12-15 years ago. When the polls revealed Hillary could whip Huckabee amongst Arkies he best run elsewhere.

Many of us don't like Pryor's vote for torture. I doubt it will be a moment for which Pryor is forever proud. It's the politics of compromise but somethings should be off the table. We're a better nation than that.

i will not vote for a rethuglican. as i have said, i made the vow in the days of nixon. i would have trouble voting for pryor in a primary. the torture vote was unexcusable. there was no reason for that vote, he could have just not voted. that is kind of chickenshit but anything would be better than to say that i voted to ok torture. i cannot imagine looking in the mirror and thinking i had voted for some of the things he has voted for in the last 3 years. i really think that he thinks all those rethuglicans in nwest arkansas were going to love him and send him money. blanche is already the senator from wal mart and probably they don't want 2. those folks in the nw corner of the state will vote in that other party and he might as well forget it. he is not joe lieberman and will not get elected by rethuglicans in arkansas. they will find their own candidates here. lwood you are right. we are a better nation that that. that is what bush and his enablers such as lieberman and in some cases pryor and all the republican legislators have done. they have taken us down to the level of nations we used to think we were a little bit better than in the ways we acted. we were more civilized and decent. thank you mr bush and your friends for bringing us down to the level of the worst nations on earth. we are now what we used to point out to our kids and as warren zevon said we are "mr bad example"

Zonker, I love your posts and almost always agree with every word.
Would it be too much to ask for you to use proper English when posting? I know it would be easier on my tired old eyes, LOL.
If you say no, it's ok.
Have a great weekend.

Bud Cummins appears to be one Republican I might vote for way off in the distant future when Republican doesn't have such a horrible stench attached to the name.

So far the facts say Bud was just doing his job when he was stabbed in the back by Rove and Gonzales. He's been careful venting his hurt and disappointment in public though I'm sure he cusses like a sailor in private. I don't know why he stays with a political party that does him like it has. Maybe his core values are straight Republican and he's willing to wait until real Republicans come back to power.

My first question to him would be, do you support TORTURE, would you have voted yes to TORTURE like Pryor did? If he says yes.....end of story. If he says no......I'd at least think of voting for him way on down the line.

By the time the neo-con Republicans are caught and roasted over an open flame, it's going to be hard for average folks to go vote for a Republican again......for a long time.

Unless George Clooney breaks ranks and runs as a Republican against Pryor in 2008, I doubt Pryor has any worries about a Republican taking his seat away. But he better worry about a good Democrat knocking him off in the primary cause people like me will not only vote for his Democratic opponent, but we'll work for them too.

I require more out of my Senator than good church boy looks, a semi-famous last name and 200 dollar suits. Snuggling up to Republicans in good times is one thing, doing the Republican tango with Joe Lieberman in these dangerous times is insane.

Good that Pryor hollered when Gonzales stabbed him in the back and played him for a fool. But gee....my cat screams bloody murder when I step on his tail. We need more from our Senators than just reacting.

I encourage Pryor to jump ship and become a Republican by the end of this year. Then the NWA crowd would be forced to love him and he'd be getting those big Walton checks too. Just quit pretending to be a Democrat when votes are cast for TORTURE, the Patriot Act, and continuing the War for Oil in Iraq forever and ever and ever.

Lwood, he came close enough to beating Bumpers that Bumpers decided it was time to retire when he was next up. Not to mention that he would have WON that senate seat in '96 if he didn't have to step in and clean up the mess the corrupt Democratic governor got himself into.
