Stronger mayor -- UPDATE
Rep. David Johnson of Little Rock has filed legislation., HB 2658, to authorize city manager cities to have voter referendums on giving the mayor traditional executive powers.
UPDATE -- Overnight comment suggests backers of the petition drive to change city government believe this is an attempt by the powers-that-be to stifle their effort.. I haven't a clue at this moment. It does make some changes in time allowed for petition drives. It doesn't change existing law as to election of city directors. The petitioners want to go to ward-only elections.

Is it not time for the "Times" to do a history of the changes in LR's government and the reasons (and forces) behind each change? Ooops, that would be responsible journalism, because the ArkDamnCrap has decreed that anything that does not promote Realtors' profits is not real news.

Isn't such a referendum already allowed by law? I heard Walter Smiley has plenty of signatures on his petition and is just working on a good cushion that will show the question will pass with ease.
