The coy lt. gov.

Another interview with Bill Halter, another refusal to discuss his political future. In this one, politics prof Jay Barth says the talk at least helps Halter's profile. Maybe. I also think it's possible that he's beginning to look passing strange and that his irritation factor with the political establishment, already high, keeps escalating.

Support for Pryor and Lincoln is tepid at best, but voters aren't very excited by the potential replacements either. Halter understands this, but he hasn't yet figured out a way to exploit the situation. This tepid support and yearning for leadership is what he saw when he flirted with a challenge to Beebe, and he sees the same thing with Pryor and Lincoln. Many voters are not satisfied with what we have, but the potential replacements aren't too appealing either. Is Halter the guy to step in and take advantage of voter dissatisfaction? Probably not. But the circumstances remain good for a white knight in the mold of Dale Bumpers.

After the election, I (kind of) tried to like this opportunistic hack. But his last comments about the proposed lottery were whining snippets about the opposition - something like "What are they afraid of? Huh? What are they afraid of? . . ." So, I just moved him down to the lower part of the list where the rest of the folks are that rely on smarta** rhetorical comments to make their point instead of reasoned argument.

Mr. Halter is nowhere near the caliber of Mr. Bumpers . . .yet?

Why are we cursed with such bad politicians? That's one question every American, regardless of party affiliation, could ask themselves.

Tepid? Whatever. The people who blog here may show tepid support for Lincoln and Pryor but they probably have 56 or 57% approval along with 100% name ID among people voting in the Democratic primaries (which includes a few moderates, conservatives, and Republicans).

I give Halter credit for using the rumor mill to build up his name ID (again) but he will get crushed in a head to head contest with a sitting member of the Senate. Pryor raised as much in one night as Halter loaned to himself AND RAISED in his entire race for Lt. Governor.

So what if old Wes Clark decides he'll make a run for the Senate on the grounds that Pryor "doesn't get it?" Won't happen, but that would cause heart problems in the Pryor camp and I don't mean Daddy Pryor's ticker. Somehow, I think that next to Daddy Bush, Little David is the most distressed poppa around these days with his political offspring.

"But his record should not lead to comparisons with Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, Barth said."

First someone needs to see if Professor Jay Barth is on the Pryor payroll. There is every reason in the world to compare Pryor's voting record to his mentor Lieberman. Both are 2 feet up Bush's large intestine.

The spinners will continue to tell us that no one can knock off Mark Pryor and of course the whole system is designed to make it very hard to unseat a sitter, but the last election showed it can be done. I don't see why someone like Bill Halter can't do it in 2008.

Every Bush vote that Pryor has made (73% at last count) is fixing to hang around Pryor's neck like a boat anchor, as well they should. By the time the Democrats in Congress are through with the Bush administration the average voter's opinion of any sitting politician is going to be several levels below their regards for cockroaches.

We saw a "throw the bums out" movement last November and it will only be stronger by November, 2008. Pryor's "they lied to me and I wasn't smart enough to know it" rant of the moment will only make him look dumber in '08.

Clearly the son of St. David has been a major disappointment to all Democrats. Sending him back to the Senate will only make Arkansas look dumber. We need a Fulbright, not a half-bright in Congress. Anyone But Pryor in '08!

Even if Pryor was vulnerable, which he's not, i'd NEVER vote for Bill Halter. Period. I've never voted for Republican in my life, but i'd stay home if the options were Halter and Huck.

Huck may be the worst ever, but Halter's not even from Arkansas. He's an opportunist that cares about nothing more than his own ambition.

I hope he runs. At least we'd be done with Halter forever after that.

DUDE, Halter is a native Arkansan. raised in North Little Rock Arkansas. get your facts straight ok..

Would the people who claim that Halter is not an Arkansan because he left the state to work in Bill Clinton's administration also claim that Wes Clark is not an Arkansan because he left the state to work? Should we also remember that Clark acceped his federal paycheck when Republicans were President?

Military officers serve their country. Part of that is obeying the Commander-in-Chief. When you are no longer active military, then you can speak openly on the issues. I believe that is what Clark has done. Served his country, all the presidents in office during his active service, and once in retirement, he is now free to tell us what a bum w is. End of story.

Take a deep breath and relax, Rackensacker. I like Wes Clark. I gave money to his presidential campaign and even had a Clark for President yard sign. The point I hoped to make was that people who want to challenge someone's credenials should be careful. When those same convoluted standards are applied to someone you support, you could look pretty silly (not that looking silly seems to bother this crowd).
