A student athlete

If you want a feel-good moment, check out Harry King's column on former Hog basketball player Dean Tolson, about to receive a master's degree at UA after finishing his athletic career years ago with a transcript full of Fs and, by his testimony, illiterate.

The column doesn't delve deeply into the hows and whys of the long-ago academic failure amid continuing athletic eligibility. It focuses on Tolson's late blooming as a student. But it does say, "Because he was a basketball player, he said he never worried about flunking out at Arkansas."

Comments

i well remember tolson from my time at the university. this is a very good program frank started. the big problem is that it is needed. another is that the recent names show that nolan really didn't care that his kids went to school as he repeated several times.
