UPDATE: No Nutt news at UA Board

The town is simply jumping with rumors that the UA Board, meeting today in East Arkansas, is going to act on matters athletic today. This refers to the swirl of Internet chatter about Houston Nutt's poor use of his university phone, compounded with growing questions about the university policy on use of its plane and use of the Razorback Foundation plane. (Sitting on a nonprofit board, I know you have to be careful about use of nonprofit assets for strictly personal emoluments. It has made me curious for the longest how the Foundation, with its tax-free status, for golfing outings and other personal trips that wouldn't seem to be in advancement of the foundation's purpose.) I have a call in on this, though I'd been told early in the week that no athletic topics were expected to be discussed. I'm guessing the Internet will be ahead of the mainstream media on this story as it has been all along.

UPDATE: Somebody suggests unkindly that the UA Board, given the recent basketball debacle, might be of a mind to move up Frank of the Ozarks' retirement. Did he get juked by Billy Gillispie, now off to Kentucky, or what?

UPDATE II: The UA Board of Trustees met and nothing occurred, in public at least, on the athletic front. An executive session was held to consider a variety of routine issues. Dr. Carl Johnson made a motion to discuss athletic issues as well. The motion was approved. But when the Board returned to the public session, it merely approved the routine items. Nothing further was said about athletics.

Speaking of really important stuff, I presume you have seen where Billy Gillispie (who wouldn't even speak to lame duck Frank) was just announced as the new coach of the Kentucky Wildcats.

We need to do a search for an AD if we expect anyone of note to sign with the Hogs.

Nobody was moving 'til KY was settled. Now Calipari is back in play for the Hogs.

I would not be surprised if Calipari gets back into the picture. He was exceedingly complimentary of the Razorback program on TV a couple nights ago, saying, "I can't imagine anybody turning down the Arkansas job." That was a stunner, since I thought he'd done that very thing just a few days before.

i have talked to a couple of people, 1 with the university and they know nothing. i think it is just rumors. but, you never know what may happen as a surprise. the radio just started so we may be enlightened.

well as rick schaffer explained it was a group of nuts and rednecks from springdale. they got mad about gus mahalzon and are determined to get nutt fired. it would be nice if the people of springdale would grow up and act like adults.

At Oaklawn today, the rumor spread like wildfire that HDN had been fired this afternoon. I didn't see a single sad face.

Cato, that's because nobody believed the rumor.
