Cause for hope
While many of you were taking advantage of a splendid Saturday, I'm happy to report that the students of Parkview High's state championship Quiz Bowl team, supported by teachers, parents and volunteers, put on a benefit Quiz Bowl tournament for middle schools today at Parkview. They raised money to contribute to famine relief in Darfur and gave a lot of smart kids a workout on some tough questions on everything from the periodic table to Harry Potter.
I moderated the final rounds, which put two teams of lightning fast whiz kids from Trinity Junior High in the championship game. I promised to plug the event here. Believe it or not, some of the Parkview Quiz Bowlers are dedicated blog readers.

I saw part of the final rounds being aired on LR cable local access last week. I was impressed.

Quiz Bowl is truly the greatest sport in all of Arkansas' high schools. One is consistently left awe-struck by these kids' boundless knowledge, and I played QB for 9 years (but w/ only moderate success).
