Scary story of the day
A Princeton political science professor -- a decorated Marine veteran -- apparently was placed on the terrorist watch list for giving a speech critical of Bush's war policy. Do you feel safer now?

Comments
Yeah, I had just read that on another blog site. The first thing entered my mind are the comments Busheviks make on this topic when they ask what rights have been destroyed by this regime.

It's well known that once you're put on this list, even by accident, it's almost impossible to get removed.
Obviously this is a new weapon the government has to punish people they don't like. It's much like the old Nixon habit of triggering IRS audits on their political enemies. This should not be tolerated!

"... for giving a speech critical of Bush's war policy. Do you feel safer now?"
The Bush perpetrators deny travel rights to professors.
Pat Robertson achieves the same goal at his "Regents University" by denying all rights of tenure.
They must have copied their policies from the Chinese Communists.

Thanks Max,
Last I heard, I think it was on 60 minutes a while back, over 70 thousand American citizens are on such a list.
In a related area, hearings will be held by my favorite Senator this week on so called "national security letters"
---------------
But the meeting to watch this week takes place Wednesday when Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) presides over a hearing entitled "Responding to The Inspector General's Findings of Improper Use of National Security Letters by the FBI" in Judiciary's Constitution subcommittee. Feingold may be the Senate's biggest foe of how Team Bush has trashed the U.S. Constitution and this one could be good for some fireworks.
Bob Geiger has more, click on my name..
and the fabulous Christy Harden Smith at firedoglake posted on this as well.
If all of these folks are terrorists, then I think America would be about as dangerous today as it is in Iraq, but for now it feels more and more every day like the looming early 1930's Germany..and nobody is taking it seriously.

DBI, you're probably joking, but I seriously wouldn't hold it past the Bush administration.
It's pretty obvious that all this bullshit with homeland security is just a way to tighten control on citizens.

True or false? Did the Bush administration have Professor Murphy placed on the Terrorist Watch List in retaliation for publically criticizing the administration? Opinions on the blogs are going both ways, but the truly frightening part is that the partisan lemming-like stampede of the "loyal Bushies" could have without an official directive.
The packing of all levels of the administration with loyalist cronies with little or no goals other than help Bush/Rove in every way possible and the acceptance that ethics and justice to not apply to "loyal Bushies" indicate how ingrained the pragmatic "win at all costs" lack of ethics has permeated all levels of our government and bureaucracy and how difficult erradicating overt partisanship will be even after 'Dim
son' and his 'T. Blossum' go home.

For the first time ever, we are living under a dictator. It's beyond outrageous.
30%ers, What are you going to do when your rights are violated?

we came close with the nixon enemies list but it became more of a joke, an excuse for parties. in fact i believe people were upset to not have been on it. this is getting much more serious. the idea that someone could be delayed from flying because he gave a speech, i thought that was what this country was supposed to be about. these bastards have totally changed the things in the constitution to whatever they think they want . the fact that there are people who think that they are right is what worries me. i don't understand how anybody can believe in taking away any rights. these things are what seperate us from the rest of the world.

I read that Hillary and Obama followed Edwards and the Nevada Democratic Party rejecting debates sponsored by Faux News. I linked the article from the Drudgereport. It was linked to a neocon website.
The part that was amusing was the comments. It was like watching a 30 percenter fire ant nest with a stick shoved in the mound. The "loyal Bushies" were furiously swarming.
This was rather illuminating since they were right that Faux News does have higher ratings. You would have thought, they would be gloating that the "Democrat Party" was rejecting the highest rated and leaving the exposure to the Re'thug'lican candidates. However, they were incensed at the affront to 'Faux News.'
Perhaps, the Edwards, Obama and Clinton campaigns were more astute in their rejection than I had thought. Anything that angers the " loyal Bushies" that much must have been a good strategic move.
