Not headed for Rolling Stone's cover

Tim Dickinson, writing in the Rolling Stone, puts Mike Huckabee's presidential odds at 80-1.

He gives him some pluses:

Ex- Governor of Arkansas wins points with social conservatives for his divorce-proof "covenant" marriage. Nails the language of compassionate conservatism: "we can't say we're pro-life if, after the child is born, we're not concerned about affordable housing, decent education and adequate access to health care."

Also some minuses:

Disliked by anti-tax right for "expanding government." Raised only $544,000 in the first quarter, Holds a concealed-carry permit: son was busted trying to board a plane with a loaded  Glock ten days after Virginia Tech.

Comments

Only to Rolling Stone's readers would a concealed weapons permit be a bad thing.

Yeah, I can't wait until we can all carry pistols onto airplanes.

If someone is so insecure or scared or angry that they feel need to carry a concealed weapon, yes, my first reaction is to consider that a bad thing in the absence of any real need.

For example, if my father out of the blue started carrying a concealed weapon, I'd worry.

It is a warped view of the world that would see that as a positive thing.

Does anybody else remember this from Huckabee? Huckabee was speaking on capital punishment and said something to the effect of "If ever there was a time for Jesus to speak out against capital punishment, it was when he was nailed to the cross."

Only those people who had seen the movie Serial Mom would have recognized the exact same line from the preacher's sermon just as Kathleen Turner is about to be arrested.

The strange thing is that Serial Mom is a comedy from John Waters and the Huckster was speaking from the heart.

Does anyone remember his line?
